Oh, to experience darkwave for the first time again in high school in the early 80s. To feel connection to goth when I felt disconnected to all that bubblegum on the radio. To soar in that bass line, to disappear into Peter's eyes, and know there were people like me out there. Nobody gets it now. They just look at your silver hair and dismiss you, as if you never lived, were never 17, were never alive.
I was there 2 nd row from front just below David Jay. Still remember queueing for tickets and meeting a girl called Stella who had just interviewed Bauhaus for her college magazine. She posted me a copy of the magazine, oh the days before internet lol. Wish I still had it.
I remember the first time I saw these guys on tv in 1982 or 83. They were scary! I was only around 12 but I was blown away. In high school I wore the old white Bauhaus shirt with the face/ design thing. My drama teacher asked if I was into German design lol … Heavy dark band. Very creative as well

Peter Murphy, was influenced by David Bowie and Iggy Pop. That's why in concert they usually end with a Bowie or Iggy song. Peter Murphy still pays tribute by ending his shows with a Bowie tune. I've seen Bauhaus live and Peter Murphy live several times and always end it with the encore song being one of Bowie's. High energy post punk, great band Daniel Ash, David J, and Kevin Haskins! Great voice and definitely Bowiesk!

I claim to have been one of the first people ever to have heard Bauhaus possibly before even Sir John Peel played them.(rip) I was standing in the Crowd at the Edinburgh Hogmanay Smooch that uste to happen on the Royal Mile when a verry pretty, petit girl dressed in a fau fur coat appeared like Zebedee in front of me and poot their first single in my hand (one of those "Single " length cassettes) wrapped in a "Fanzine" with their "Angel of death". As soon as I got home I played it and became a fan .I took that tape around with me to play to everyone.
Almost all I listened to in the Early '80's was Bauhaus, the Cocteau Twins, Cranberries and Siouxie and the Banshees. Ah, the great days of the John Peel show on R1.
This song was inspired by a vist to Northamptons Race course with his Father, Pete got very bored, and if you study pictures of this place you will note that it is very flat.
i liked Tones On Tail and Love and Rockets a bit way better after. Daniel Ash was awesome. I saw both solo and Murphy was a yawn. House of Love blew him away and i wasnt even familiar with them. i didnt know what goth was, i thought it was rock-punk when i first heard em. Murphy is probably a little too much Bowie...without actually being Bowie. weak link. sexy, tho.

i love Bauhaus, and there is shit loads of artist around that experiment, and actually play their own instruments, but most get nowhere, still if you really look, you can find plenty
i saw them back in 2006 when they toured w/ NIN and opening for both bands was tv on the radio. best concert i ever went to. bauhaus was just intense and peter murphy basically took everyone to school although NIN just killed it later that night.
