- I've got an old and rusted Playstation 2 for my collection. In this episode, I fixed and restored an old ps2 slim which in my opinion had been kept in some basement for 10 years. This ps2 doesn't work and there is rust. Let's find out what is wrong with this game console.

Yo I need some serous help I have a ps2 slim like this and it’s getting power when I insert the power cable it’s red on standby until I hit the button then it turns green after that I can’t get it to do anything it won’t even turn back off any ideas ?

Hello! I need help with my fat ps2. It was working perfectly well last year. Now it has these problems.
1. It doesn't display on screen. The red and green buttons are on and the fan is working but no display.
I click on the reset button 6 to 7 times and then it displays.
2. After making it start there is no sound or a weird noise.
3. If it is displaying and then when I insert the disc. It is not being read.
4. If i click on reset button again. Everything vanishes. And goes back to 1.
What type of problem is this?

I have this exact same board with no signal issue. The red led turns to green and behaves just fine. The lens assembly moves up and down to read discs just fine. Theres just no display. no audio. no video. All the fuses are fine and no short cap. Dont know how to proceed any further.
Hello, my friend. I would try to replace this one ( cxm4015r ) if I had the same issue and there is no short on the motherboard. Who knows, check the cable and the connector. Are they any signs of rust on the motherboard? Does the video chip get hot?
@@ReMARKCHANNEL Thank you for the reply. Yes, all the chips get hot. All the voltage regulators are working. No rust on the board. The pcb is actually in a very good looking shape.
It had a modchip on it. I removed it and it booted fine without it. 2 days later, I decided to install the modchip again. Spent hours on it and double checked the connections. When i turned it on, it didnt boot. So I removed the modchip once again but it still wouldn't boot.
I check the video and audio rails with an oscilloscope and it has zero activity on it. Scope flickers when pressing the on and off switch but no movement after that.
@@12villages Look over your solder points very closely and make sure you have no shorts or bridges..twice🙂.
How did you remove the chip, anyway? Did you desolder the wires? Cut the wires? ALL of the wires? Did you leave anythign hanging that might be shorting out? Even if you cut a wire (meaning it is no longer 'stripped') it's still possible for it to short out against something else.

nice work. brought it back from the dead !!! i have a ps2 that i can't get to power up. i have replaced the power supply and power/reset switch and still nothing. any ideas??
Only multimeter will help you. There are a lot of reasons why it doesn’t work. Search for the short . Connect the power supply and check the voltage.
I have checked for power, and continuity and resistance through all the components. Fuse is good

Very good video, unfortunately though I think you broke the CR2032 battery connector. I think those 2 little metal tabs on the top snapped off when you put in the new battery, I noticed the orbs in the main menu staying still, which means the battery is dead, or not put in correctly.

Hello remark I need help on fixing my ps2 slim 79001 when I first received it I connected it and the red standby light would light up, but I couldn’t get it to turn green. I played around with it and then got it to turn green. I noticed that when the power switch power cable was moved a bit the light would turn off and on. Long story short, I messed around with the power ribbon cable and then it didn’t want to turn on anymore. I ordered a brand new cable and connected it and my ps2 doesn’t even show the red standby light. I also tried troubleshooting like you did here with a multimeter but for some reason I’m not getting the same values as when you removed the short, I feel it can be the power port of the ps2, but doesn’t look broken or loose. If you can please help me out idk what else to check. Thank you. Also if you could point me out how to troubleshoot some more with a multimeter gratenpakhuis be awesome.

Metal shield on top of motherboard not look to good,others peoples say is not ok to be paint.
What's the tool that you used to scrape the rust off of the metal plate?
It’s a dremel.

Can someone please tell me on how to find a bad capacitor or short?
Yes, sure. Get a multimeter and set it on diod mode, then check capacitors.
@@ReMARKCHANNEL How to know if the capacitor is bad?
@@Xmah._.06 if it’s shorted and it shows 0 resistance than it’s bad. Bad after you find it’s short, you need to remove the capacitor and check the capacitor again. If it’s shorted then you can replace it after checking that the short is gone from the motherboard.
