Hey Alice, your description of the dog food ingredients is spot on and hasn't changed in many years. If people really knew how our foods are processed there would be many more home gardens! Now comes my long story as I'm retired and have plenty of time to keep up with you guys. I drove a slam bang truck and trailer back in the late 70s and early 80s out of Carson City Nv. Spent many a day running over hwy 88 summer and winter hauling gypsum rock to San Andreas. Two trips a day over that hill at 80 grand will keep the brake drums plenty warm ! We also hauled gypsum rock to Durkee Oregon via via 80 to 95 north out of Winnemucca Nv. Then I would go over to Mountain Home in Idaho to load meat meal in my dump boxes and throw tarps over the mess. The rendering plant was right across the street from the meat packing plant. Meat meal is all the by product of anything left over from the packing plant. Blood meal, feather meal, bone meal, it was all mixed together, ground up and cooked in big vats and dried to a sawdust consistency, yummie stuff! I would load at 6am before the wind came up, the meal came out of the rendering plant using a screw auger with a canvas tube at the end and that dropped into my dump box to fill it up then the trailer box. Tarp and go. Always stopped at the Union 76 truck stop in Winnemucca for lunch and when I came out, especially in the summer months, there was not a truck within 75 yards of mine...the stink was unbelievable! That stuff would pack in everywhere it could all over the truck and trailer. It took half a winter running over hwy 88 to wash the smell away. That greasy powder would sneak out of the tarps and coat everything, the smell behind me was 100 times worse than being behind a bull hauler! Took my now x wife with me once and she sat on the street curb between the packing plant and the rendering plant while I was loading. She actually puked while watching the rendering dump truck cross the street loaded with guts and hides dangeling over the tailgate. Yea, trucking isnt always a glamorous life, I appreciate you and Martin doing what you do to help keep our country moving! I hope to meet up somewhere and thank you guys in person. Thanks for letting me ramble on 😊
Hej When we have a Reefer Smelling bad, We throw some baking powder or some fresh crush coffee beans , it takes everything. Sorry for my english. Have a nice trip.
Detention is and always will be in our industry. With good communication and proper documentation, it is a great deal better than years ago. This is one of the benefits of onboard recorders.
I use to pick up and drop off at a fish processing plant in Richmond BC. When it was herring processing time the plant just smelt so bad. They use to take all the fish guts, heads, tails and fins and put it all on conveyor belts and have it all dumped in a pile in separate building . The building had 3 sides to it and was wide open at one end. The pile of guts and such was 15 ft high and 20 ft in diameter. It was the most slimmest mountain of guts I have ever saw. The stink was out of this world. It sat there festering and breaking down, it was God awful to see. Ya know once a week a tank came from the states and use to suck up the pile of oozing slime and use to take it back to a make-up company in Washington state and mix that into there products. It was the most disgusting thing I had ever seen and smelt. Glad that broker finally agreed to pay up. Well a bit of running around empty on that trip. Anywho guys thanks for posting, have a great and a safe day. Happy trails to you, D…
The place I worked at shipped live plants on racking. Had to use reefer trailers set to 70". Got reefers in that were clean. But smelled bad of fish. Get ground coffee and sprinkle it on the trailer floor, front to back. Smell gone in 1 minute.
I used to work as a subcontractor, making parts for a rendering plant. One day I went in the building to look at something and there was a guy taking lunch break sitting on a well used piece of machinery that had “product” on it and all sorts of maggots. Don’t believe I ever set foot back in one of those plants.
Hi Alice, How did you get on with the ticket were he'd made it up. as there was no rubbing on the pipes. that boiled my blood did that 🤬. hope your fighting it. Howard UK 🇬🇧.
Im glad you got your detention pay .i can only imagine the drivers that give up on trying to get their detention pay .NOT ALICE SHE GOT PAID GREAT JOB DRIVER. SAFE TRAVELS 🇺🇸
I think brokers that do that hope people will give up so they can pocket the $$$. I guarantee they were paid by the customer. I also guarantee that these brokers keep upto half of what the customer pays for it as well
Real life trucking. Those of us who arent drivers can learn alot about how this country gets the things we want and need. The saying is so true. If you got it a truck brought it. Thinking of my small town in the Rockies. Fuel food clothing parts. The only thing shipped out was hay, sheep and cows. Loved your home time also. Appreciate it. Looking forward to Wed SEE YA
Martin's great advice. "Just gotta put some balls into it" You done well Alice. Great that Martin can do all the servicing and mechanical (99% at least) on the trucks, takes time but saves you guys a heap. Never feed your dogs crap out of a can, it is offal. Fresh or frozen meat only.Stay safe on the hwy.
Oh yea, that meat meal I was hauling from Idaho went either to Ralston Purina in Reno or to Foster Farms in Livingston California, there it was fed directly to the chickens that were raised and shipped to the packing plant, feathers to across the street and meat to the grocery store, and that completes the story.😊
Adjust the steering stops in the right side so you can’t turn the steering wheel anymore than 2 complete rotations. That will stop that 55 degree wheel cut problem. It worked for me. You can’t turn as sharp but you get used to that
Friday i delivered at a place in Jamestown NC. Brokered thru TQL. Appointment day sat not friday per rc. Time was 11 am not 7 am. Thats how important brokers are.
My first job driving when I got out of the Army was for a rendering company. You get used to the smell pretty quick. One thing that helped was we lived in a small town and the plant was on the edge of town so we pretty much smelled it all the time. Wonder you did not see Schmit around there. He hauls those kinds of loads
Used to work for a petfood manufacturer in the UK owned by Mars. It was dry treats so not too grose and we got used to the smell but I don't think the neighbours ever did.
Heard Martin say some thing about getting some more wheel balancers. Have ever tried the ones made in Canoga Park, California by 'Balance Masters', that use quick silver in place of oil and steel balls?
Very cool meeting you guys at Gallaghers Pizza Saturday evening ! I love your videos here and keep them coming . Safe travels ! I used to live near a soap company in Green Bay . When the wind was out of the Northwest , we would get that same rendering odor you were talking about . Could not go outdoors to do anything . Horrible
Even if you were complaining Alice nobody should give AF they are not the ones that are sitting in the cab of a truck that's smaller than a prison cell with no facilities for hours on end or dealing with all kinds of weather traffic and being away from home days and weeks at a time going through crap like that as much as you and Martin do you guys have every right in the world to complain Infact why don't we step complaint up a notch you have every right to bitch because a lot of places out there don't give two 💩's about the truck driver The one who is bringing or delivering their product and that is BS
I’m sad! 😢I really wanted to see more of the mustang and firebird! Oh well….keep on trucking! Thanks for the short listen to the mustang though. Sweeeeeet music.
maybe if we get ice this year I’ll take it ice racing if I can get some tires and studs together in time, the couple that bought the firebird invited me to take it down the track for the first race of the year worst case as well!
Question(s):I sold my 2-valve same color about 3 months ago(expanding fam)can you still wear the mustang necklace?😜With the wheel work being done on “high maintenance” does Martin NOT believe in alignments with winter driving coming?? I’m just curious…
Guess you are going to Simmons in Dubuque. When i was with Tucker they done that run, although i never done the reefers. Have heard about that place in Milan Mo.. i done a lot of Canned loads out of Simmons Dubuque in vans down to their DC in Edgerton Kansas
Im delivering to where you picked up at right now 11/17 this place sucks! Been here 7hrs to find out broker changed appointment to avoid paying detention.
I’ve hauled dog meat a few times. For a meat hauler it was only gross to look at, they paint it green. Now if you really want a gross load haul hides. Years later I still have nightmares regarding the receiver.
Thanks for taking us along. You know that a truck run better and gets better mpg with a fesh was and servers. Lol. Hope you guy's have a good one and stay safe.
@scottycollins1829 instant coffee works also. I hauled a Marzettis load from Ohio to Marzettis in Atlanta one night and reloading there back to Marzettis in Ohio. The Atlanta Marzettis said my wagon had a oder, and wanted a wash out before loading back to their Ohio plant. I agreed ,but only if they paid for it since their product was responsible for the odor. Holy shit, they broke out bags of instant coffee and spread it all over the trailer floor, odor gone and smelt great after the sweep out.
@vernleroyson331 Yezz-Sirr,,,coffee grouds DEFINITELY wrk,but sum Shippers/ Receivers won't load the wagon with it smelling like coffee either. We used coffee grounds for decades but sum places will reject trailer it it has coffee aroma
@TruckingTogether you would want that bit more for the inconvenience off waiting and wash out. Then after wash out and parked up at night you can always, leave fridge doors open
It seems like thats all drivers do now days is complain about thing they have no control over ....ive been out here 33yrs and never heard a bunch of crybabies like i have in this generation
If everybody back then always had asked for the obvious, the illogic stuff would maybe been over by now and loading/unloading would be as efficient as it possibly can. Don't say one has to complain but one SURELY should ask questions about the why and how of stupid things.
What is truck vomit 🤮, I have not heard that term before. Isn’t there something for girls to pee in other than a cup; I would think the camping industry would have something.

🤢I would never had guessed they would transport it 'loose' instead of in well contained drums, or such. Good story. Thx.

I completely Agree that broker should have paid the $300 detention way quicker than 3wks
It's always anjoy seeing your videos pop up. You never know what surprises may be in it.
Glad you enjoy them! Comments like these make it all worth it ❤️
@@TruckingTogether I second what Jake said! Though not as many surprises as Casey LaDelle has on his channel.
Been watching since Martin was running Flatbed, in Cali. You guys keep Rolling !🤘👍
Teamwork makes the DREAMWORKS
Thanks Alice that detention time sucks. Hope Martin has a good trip!

Glad you got th retention pay. Also will miss seeing the Pontiac black bird. Sounded awesome. Definitely a car I like.
went to a good home, might still race it at the ice drags next year if we get enough ice as they invited me too
To had to my last comment. You do a great job of always having a positive attitude, which is half of the battle.

Yeah Alice……put some balls into it! 😂😂 Did you even realize that we heard that on the video? 😅
sure did 😂
@@TruckingTogether I got a good laugh out of that because it sounds like something I would say to my wife.
It would seem to me that the broker was hoping you would forget about the detention. Because he certainly did.
exactly!
When you have a smell in trailer use a can of coffee it will nuterlise the bad smell
That’s what flight attendance use in emergency to kill smell. Coffee grounds
Im delivering to where you picked up at right now 11/17 this place sucks! Been here 7hrs to find out broker changed appointment to avoid paying detention.
oh snap! hope you get out of there soon! I’d be rather upset at that broker too and insisting on layover for that
"Tires can be a bitch", Martin says.😁😁
A MASTER of understatement, he is!!!
I was a firefighter and we had a fire in a rendering plant. It was not a pleasant experience.
I can imagine!
some times it just takes a little more muscles, or a longer lever
