Maybe it's just because I've heard so many gunshots in my life, but my reaction would be a whole lot faster. I do wonder if the Secret Service gets "noise training" where they can distinguish between fireworks, automobile backfires, and actual rifle shots.
A rifle shot has a particular resonance that evokes an immediate reaction in me. When I'm in the bush hunting, it means someone got something before me. In an urban setting, it means someone is trying to kill a person. The Secret Service reaction was appallingly slow. They are there for one reason, and they failed. Full stop.

I’m irked reading headlines about how “amazing” the Secret Service was. If that were the case the incident would have been circumvented, particularly with attendees alerting LE to the shooters presence.
True that roof top should have been identified and and occupied.
Civilians we’re even pointing out the shooter to law enforcement as he was crawling up on the roof. Nothing done.

The fact that the shooter, _completely out in the open in broad daylight,_ *with a rifle blatantly visible,* was able to climb up on the roof and crawl prone into position without being noticed by, and sans a reaction from, law enforcement, is very telling, IMO. One would fully expect he'd be shot long before getting into position. Citizens on the ground were trying to warn law enforcement, but their actions went either unnoticed or ignored. Very telling, indeed.
It almost reminds me of when the Secret Service Agents stepped off of, and backed away from, JFK's car as he entered the kill zone. As puzzlement changed to fear, you knew something terrible was about to happen. It must have been terrifying for those citizens as they tried to warn law enforcement.
The FBI just announced that theyll be naming the suspect just as soon as they're done scrubbing his social media.
