Before we knew it about 12 miles out, we were in a hurricane. At one time we came just a few clicks of no return on rolling over. We had a pendulum on the bridge that would show how far we had rolled on our side. When your tallest part is 65 ft. high, and you have to scrub the salt off it the next day. You know you have been playing in the BIG POND! As we were headed south along the coast, we could hear a 50 ft. Catamaran going down about 20 miles out further off the coast. We knew we couldn't get to them, We heard the CG headed for them, and we prayed for them to still be there when the CG arrived. It's a scary feeling when you have huge waves coming over your decks and breaking things lose that it should take a bulldozer to move, but water is powerful, and you learn to respect the sea. She is beautiful but can be deadly in a few minutes. I have spent many years on the water, and had several close calls, but I still love it and it is part of life that so many enjoy each day! My hats off to the Coastie's, as many call them. A friend of mine was in the CG, and I always wished I had joined them as well! Stay safe guys wherever you are stationed! What did you guys even do out there? Sylvia said you were awesome so something went on. That's the best show!
The bar is the transition point between the mouth of the river and the ocean. So it can be extremely rough when the water coming down river is slamming into the tide and waves coming in.
The ocean off of Oregon and Washington is not joke, it can be down right mean. We get hurricane force winds and weather several times a year, those the work those waters are extremely brave.
i used to live there! at cape disappointment and later astoria, always fun to watch the coasties flying around, and ive a few short tours of a few kinds of their boats, never truly got to see our heros in action though.
We, the 304th RQS, trained with the Astoria & Cape Disapointment Coasties with our 32ft twin jet boat, C-130s, Zodiacs, HH-60s. Great times. I got a verbal warning from the CO at CP 47' training dock...I created a huge wake with our Jet boat during training. Sorry. I'm No Wake Wampler.

I think it's interesting how they say, "I'm glad I'm not a fishermen." God said to the fishermen, "Come with me and I will make you a fisher of men." And that is exactly what the coast guard does. They fish men from the sea...they are fishermen.
What brave man we have yes and the search the area thoroughly let the waves take them they should venture out further but God bless you for your work🌞🌈
These guys do what they do and go about it the best way they are trained for, however, I'd be 1 deck down in the enclosed cabin (of the 47) till I got closer to the sinking vessel, then go up topside to take a beating. Just don't see a reason to get the crap beat out of you if you can avoid it (from the spray and driving rain). Understanding you can see better up top, but hey, over an hour away, keep your crew warm and dry as long as you can. But it's not like the days of the 44 where you kinda had to be outside. Just thinking out loud from back in the day.

Poseidon would be proud 🔱 of you all! I was gasping when I saw those huge waves at the end! You guys are absolutely amazing and although I’m in awe of you, I’d be so sick on that CG boat in those waves...
Brave men. Well done!!
love seeing my home team at work ,i live just north of Yaquina head by the lighthouse ,were so lucky to have you Coasties here watching out for us all
My hero's CG, FD, PD & Military !!!
I have no idea what went on but that was some of the most awesome seas I've ever seen. What's a bar? I know what a the bow and stern is.. fore and aft, port starboard and jettys but nothing else. What did you guys even do out there? Sylvia said you were awesome so something went on. That's the best show!
The bar is the transition point between the mouth of the river and the ocean. So it can be extremely rough when the water coming down river is slamming into the tide and waves coming in.
I think I may have gotten a little seasick just watching !
They're a hell of a lot braver than I am. Can you imagine getting left out there alone because the helicopter is full.
Loving this show; I've been binge watching ☺☺....
The ocean off of Oregon and Washington is not joke, it can be down right mean. We get hurricane force winds and weather several times a year, those the work those waters are extremely brave.
Love it!!! miss it!!!
1st case, those are the ones that GUT us the most.
2nd case... Bravo Zulu Boys!!!
Was born and raised on the Oregon Coast on the Columbia Bar. I can hear how cold the Coasties faces are, their lips are numb.
So glad the victory crew is safe! Man! That was wild!
A DESERVING HAND SALUTE to the UNITED STATES COAST GUARD. SEMPER FIDELIS
We are all glad you are not a fisherman being a Coasties far better, You are surely God's messenger of the sea, THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU DO
Thank God for the Coast Guard.
i used to live there! at cape disappointment and later astoria, always fun to watch the coasties flying around, and ive a few short tours of a few kinds of their boats, never truly got to see our heros in action though.
I struggle with seizures so I understand how scary that can be.
Take CBD I have been seizure free for 6 years and I’m only a senior
Plus I have collapsed in the bathroom at school and was unconscious for half an hour till someone found me not fun hit my head on on the floor which is tile concrete
The guy only siezed cos he hit his head
God bless you hope you get past it
Love US Coast Guard they did a great job
absolute heroes
Fv syliva was on the show twice geez
Thats a wooden boat that ought to be condemned
One of my best friends lost his life off Columbia bar in 76 and I just missed the boat in the morning had hit a deer with the truck and ruined the radiator in Ilwaco Washington. Never went out again there
This was an awesome random find! 😮
I just had the F/V Sylvia destroyed a couple weeks ago! We stripped her down and had it towed up to the port of toledo and crushed. Bummer to see the end of an old wood fishing boats life.
Damn life lesson dont kayak without lifevest CRAZY HOW THEY DIDN'T FIND HIM BUT DOPE HOW THEY ALL MADE THE decision
If I've learned one thing from watching these, it's always have a second pump!
I live 4 miles from Cape D ... They have a nice little chow hall ...
Air Station Astoria (Oregon) also helps in cliff rescues and surf rescues ...
I bet that f/v Sylvia will be looking for new crew members next season haha
Sem-Per !!!
there great and some off the best!!:)
Those two in the little zodiac thing were badass I love it that’s what we need in the coastguard: badass brave and strong
Using a sock as a medical device... not the first time I've seen it. Got a Pt in my ambulance that someone had used a sock as a makeshift TQ.... Not perfect, but it worked until we got there!
Wow what an amazing job they do
Eyebrow game on point 🤣
I think it's interesting how they say, "I'm glad I'm not a fishermen."
God said to the fishermen, "Come with me and I will make you a fisher of men." And that is exactly what the coast guard does. They fish men from the sea...they are fishermen.
What brave man we have yes and the search the area thoroughly let the waves take them they should venture out further but God bless you for your work🌞🌈
Our countries finest!
Right withya!
Lots of face shields being made these days, I’m thinking acquiring a few for these rough rides in high seas may help
Had the Coast Guard save my ass off of Point Townsend in the Straits Of Juan Defuca. Despite high seas and a powerful flood tide they motored through. Can't say enough good about the Coast Guard.
Face shield would fog.
I grew up near there and went into the Military straight out of High School. Army. Because I grew up next to the ocean, so I knew my odds were better in the Army.
Why, why, WHY do people not wear life preservers when out in water?!?! 😳 Do they really think they're invincible? And not wearing something colorful in case needing SAR to save you?! Totally bonkers & prideful.😱
Bless you
Great salmon fishing but really dangerous to get over the bar. Many times life or death. The fish will be there tomorrow
Good skippers 👌💪👊
thank you
Has there been an update on the guy from McNairy lake
What a fun game. Good thing we taxpayers don't have a choice but to play (free HDTV ftw) or we'd be bored!
Don’t give up !
They're a hell of a lot braver than I am. Can you imagine getting left out there alone because the helicopter is full.
Wondering why they don't have a face shield on those helmets?
Sylvia seems to be a bad luck boat
Wow just WOW
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻✝️🌏🇺🇸 Isaiah 61:1 Thank you for protecting America 🇺🇸
3rd case... BZ... boys.. we are all fishermen! fishers of men! that includes women and children... and pets! It includes ALL life's! BRAVO ZULU MATES!
I... your older Brothers rest easy. You guys got better boats... better gear... better training... We are PROUD you guys work like you do!
My friends and family have gone fishing in the Columbia many times, it can be frightening. bouy 10 has a reputation for being unforgiving....
