What I love about the river people is don't matter what company you are with you get in trouble they will help you out. I was a guild onetime fell out at grumps it beat the crap out of me and another guy.That was end of our trip I hurt for a week.
Great point about everyone pitching in to help. I think this video shows that aspect well. Guides often change companies and many of us have worked together in the past.

The guy who swam out to help the rafters that were stuck is a pro in the water. That guy knew exactly what to do and he executed perfectly. Very impressive, made it look easy.
Mac is busy fixing rafts these days but still finds some time to play on the river.

Most of the dumps were set ups, I use to guide on the ocoee and we did it all the time.. more Fun !!
The Cat's PJ'S flips certainly seem to be intentional. Some companies allow or even encourage that at the bottom of Cat's PJ'S. However most companies forbid juicing or dumping; they are concerned about t-grip injuries. I do not juice for cash or otherwise.
I was not aware until today that whitewater rafting was in need of color commentary. Now I will hear your voice every time I raft.

the lady guide at 1:32 she is something else just had a bad crew
Being alert, listening, following the paddle commands, and paddling effectively really makes a difference. The crew plays a huge role in the type of experience they will have. Rafting is not an amusement park ride.

Some many dumped at 2:00, water looks higher then usual!
The level looks in the range of a normal release. As I recall the river had changed a bit and Godzilla got stickier. During negotiations with TVA water levels were generally barely the required flow. Some holes got easier but other became harder to run clean.

People panic and then they flip
The crew really can make a difference in the experience. Pro tips for the crew include: Remain alert. Listen to your guide. Follow paddle commands in a timely manner. Paddle effectively.

I'm looking for a particular rafting video where a guide hangs a sausage on a stick over swimming clients to direct them into the eddy, telling them to "swim to the sausage".

After the people fall out do they get in another raft or are are they done?
They generally get back into the same raft and continue.

Training has improved since this was shot. But the judgement of some young guides and the HR departments of some outposts is very questionable.
why is there so many guides and other paddlers on the bank at that one spot?

That first raft was guide and all that went out. He get destroyed by the rest of the guides. 😅😅😅

It was a slow week for work and my outpost but I had a lot of fun kayaking and shooting video.
I dont think a single pfd fits them.
Some people just should not go rafting.
Shit !!! Some of those Boys throw'n those ropes must be part Cowboy !! Or base ball players.
Practice makes perfect. Sometimes too many ropes are thrown.
Pro move at 9 minutes to grab that boat.

To many ropes “self rescue” !
Sometimes the spiderweb of ropes are a bit much. Training has been improving recently. Guides seem to be using ropes more effectively and safely this year from what I have observed. Guides should spread out and vector swimmers on ropes to shore rather than throwing all the ropes at once from the same point as observed in this video. Swift Water Rescue training is important. My outpost trains new guides the proper techniques.

All these rafting vids crack me up. It is rare to see a swimmer with their feet downstream, back up paddling with their hands. Don’t the guides talk to them about this?
Those guests all get a safety speech at the outpost before boarding the bus to the river. Then the guides give them an additional safety talk before launching on to the river.
However people often panic when they experience something outside their comfort zone. Fortunately the Olympic Course where much of the mehem occurs is a safe venue with an extremely low change of entrapment.
Come on down to the Ocoee and watch it live for yourself and chat with these people.
