"An Audience With..." was a British thing whereby comedians or actors or other national treasures of the UK would perform to a mostly celebrity audience. You might only recognise one or two of the audience members that the camera pans to seeing as you guys are Canadian, but every person the camera pans to is or was a well known celeb in the UK. 5:19 Sir Clive Sinclair - inventor of the digital calculator, the ZX Spectrum home computer and the Sinclair C5, the first battery powered vehicle which failed miserably. 5:58 Bob Hoskins 6:06 Brian Glover etc etc
Watched this when it was first shown. I was a wee lad ( excuse pun) and this and Fawlty Towers were the shows that actually had me in pain rolling on the floor with laughter. The following day at school it was all that was talked about. Billy is like a God to so many people. He’s like the fifth Beatles. He’s bought so much joy to the world.
I had the show on VHS. I was disappointed when I got the DVD to find it was an edited version. Billy was such a physical comedian in his prime, acting out stories as he told them.
Which dvd is it?. I have the network release from 2005 and it’s the full uncut version - 100mins. It even says - Full uncut version on the top of the front cover!
Wow, this makes me feel quite old now. I remember the whole family watching this at the time, and crying with laughter. Billy is one of our all-time favourite comedians. Nobody quite like him around. lol Sad to see so many people in the audience who are no longer with us, and only quite recently passed. 5:19 - Sir Clive Sinclair - Inventor of the Sinclair Watch, Calculator, ZX Spectrum, C5, he basically created the home computer industry in the UK in the 80s. Died September 2021. 5:57 - Bob Hoskins. Mario Bros. movie, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Hook, Mermaids, Brazil, Enemy At The Gates. Died April 2014. 6:05 - Brian Glover. Porridge, Kes, Alien 3. Died July 1997. 6:12 - Robbie Coltrane. Cracker, Hagrid from Harry Potter, several James Bond movies, Frasier, Flash Gordon, Van Helsing, Blackadder, Storm Breaker, Nuns On The Run (hilarious movie). Died October 2022. Great times, and great people.
Brilliant. I love Billy. Nobody has made me laugh tears quite like him. As for spotting famous faces, you certainly recognised Robbie Coltrane (who played Hagrid from the Harry Potter movies) at 6:44 but you seemed to have missed Ringo Starr (2nd row from bottom, 3rd in line) at 7:12 and bottom left at 7:22 - I recognise nearly everyone in that audience, but they are mostly British stars so you may not know them all.
haha! I like that trailer. btw, I'm on hour 2 of not smoking, except the doober I have. Billy Connolly is one of our greatest exports. Edit: more than 3 shakes is a wank.
can always rely on billy for a good belly laugh. makes u wonder how many of the audience had put those pants on just to get through his show... can u guys add another one on to your eternally growing list of things to react to please? i think you'll enjoy it. "funniest innuendos of all time. this morning" never fails to crack me up so figured i'd share
I could recognise a few people here: Sandra Dickinson, Paul Barber, Sir Clive Sinclair, Bob Hoskins, Brian Glover from the very first episode of Porridge, Robbie Coltrane, The Beatles' Ringo Starr, Sir Michael Parkinson, Jimmy Tarbuck, Joanna Lumley, the list goes on. Great to see so many people here Cheers 🥂 guys
An Audience with is a popular series on British TV, it's always a celebrity audience. Its ran for about 40 years and there can be years between episodes of it. Just had a look on Wiki, it started as a Jasper Carrott mini series in 1978, the most recent was Adele in 2021, that was the 54th one to be done.
Yes, 'An Audience With...' is filmed with an invited audience of celebrities and guests, the host is either a comedian or a singer, they often have questions from members of the audience as well as guest performances...Some entertainers are lucky enouggh to have done more than one of these! Ken Dodd, Freddie Starr, Shirley Bassey have done two - Dame Edna Everage is the only one to have done 3.!!
You two are great together, almost a comedy act on your own. I think though that this video is the First one I've seen with you this way round so your T Shirts read properly. LOL
I leave you with this funny clip, one of my fav sets of all time. Not Billy but someone else. His delivery, evererything is just perfect lol. Enjoy the rest of the weekend you lovely lot. ua-cam.com/video/8alpJV1V9pM/v-deo.html
Yeah there's a lot of a audience with programs this one with Billy Connolly is one of the best ones they made. But there are a lot of other Freddie starr, Bob monk house and a lot of others did them. They have famous people in the audience. There's a load, but this 1 is 1 of my favourites. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
good intro. yeah, well there's willys & there's willys. hahah. i'm green with envy, lol. hey, whatever floats your boat. the audience had Michael Parkinson, Robbie Coltrane, etc
Guys, here's the whole show from which this hilarious sketch was taken. It was recorded back in the '80's. Billy is a genius of comedy. ua-cam.com/video/f1LJjNIWSDs/v-deo.html
tHAT WAS FROM aN AUDIENCE WITH bILLY cONNELLY. tHERE ARE 2 DIFFERENT VERSIONS, THE ONE THAT WAS SHOWN ON tv WHICH IS EDITED FOR LANGUAGE ETC, AND THE FULL VEWRSION. gET THE FULL VERSION IF YOU CAN IT'S NOT EASY TO FIND THOUGH. bE WARNMED YOU MAY HURT YERSELF LAUGHING. Damn caps lock.
Brad as I always say... More than two shakes and you're playin' with it...but its own bounces don't count! 😆 (EDIT: Btw, that story was a real PISSER!)
Yeah Brad, no one can see you in the woods, shaking it about like a dusty old rug……..well except perhaps the proverbial bear having a shit!🤣🤣🕊️🕊️❤️ keep on keeping on guys, Billy has some classics that need dusting off, search Billy Connolly, bagpipes at a party, heavy duty diapers alert😂👍
OMG!!! I am still trying to recover from that inconsonance intro, before I even get to the reaction! Stop with the "everything must be green on St Patrick's Day" nonsense. That is American bullshit not Irish. You are Canadians so please learn from the Irish about Irish, not the Americans. Americans think they know everything but they honestly know nothing. If you went into a pub or restaurant in Ireland asking for any food or drink to be deliberately and artificially coloured green for St Patrick's Day, you would either be ignored or thrown out! Some places in Ireland do succumb to the demands of America and colour things green, but this is purely a financial decision to not deter the tourists and not lose the tourism revenue, but I personally disagree with that! Take a trip to Dublin on St Patrick's day and you will see a whole different picture to what America paints. Shaking the drips I think maybe just an excuse for a w^nk 🤣 That was such an old clip from dear old Billy but it is never not funny. I think people who want to take his advice would do quite well wearing fishing waders 🤣 It is difficult to know for sure who Lucy was pointing out at the video but at the exact second, it pictured Robbie Coltrane who sadly died in 2022.
An Audience with Billy Connelly is the best show he ever done you should watch the whole show
An audience with Peter Ustinov is another cracker
The "Audience with" and his appearances on Parkinson are classic.

I recommend you watch 'Billy Connelly - Bagpiper at party'. My all-time favourite Billy Connelly routine, at least of those that were filmed.
I had the show on VHS. I was disappointed when I got the DVD to find it was an edited version. Billy was such a physical comedian in his prime, acting out stories as he told them.

That beer looks so wrong 😂😂😂
For St.Patrick's Day they should have been drinking Guinness :-)
So many of that audience are dead now, they were various mixed celebs of the day.
Bloody hell that was old, must have been in the late 80's.
Giving a shout out to Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane) who you see gor a brief second in the audience. R.I.P Hagrid, forever Hogwarts
