    I find it extremely hard to believe this place is abandoned. It's way too clean, there's way too much equipment, and everything is still working and powered.
    I'm guessing it's not in use but some firm still owns it.

    I started watching Urbex videos about 6 months ago. Since then I've been through 30-40 creators and I can legitimately say you guys are my favorite. You are not afraid of long videos and you make sure to get as much detail as you can. You have been to locations I've seen in the past from other explorers, and when you do it is very easy to see the difference in the videos. There were parts that other creators went through too fast or skimmed over completely. These videos make me want to find Urbex locations in my area and scout them out with my girlfriend. Keep up the good work guys. I will keep watching as long as you keep posting!

    In some countries in the world, this will be a top notch medical facility. Here we just abandoned ship to the next shining new building. No wonder our medical costs is 10 times greater than most countries.

      @MrEddieLomax 7 років тому +5

      Trust me, if your health system is not trying to earn a profit by providing the best service then its rubbish. In the UK our NHS is more interested in political objectives of keeping enough people supportive than providing the best service. Waiting 3 months to start cancer treatment, months/years for minor operations is all normal, also large numbers of managers earning obscene salaries too is normal. Don't fall for socialized healthcare, if you do then you'll end up paying twice when you need something done, first in taxes and second for the private hospital to get the job done.

    • @mosipd
      @mosipd 7 років тому +7

      Our medical costs are so high because the government stuck its nose where it didn't belong. Prior to 1965, the first year for major government regulation of the healthcare industry, healthcare costs were on par with that of the consumer price index. To give you a quick idea, in 1964 the MPI (medical-care price index) and CPI (consumer price index) were about even. Fast forward 40 years and the MPI is now more than double what the CPI is. Most people don't know about things like certificates of need, meaningful use and the ERISA. For example, did you know that if a billionaire wanted to build a hospital that was free for the community he would need to obtain a "certificate of need"? The government would determine if their "free hospital" would best serve the community or maybe there are "too many hospitals" in the area, in which case no certificate of need.
      There are more than 18 federal regulatory agencies and an equal or greater number of state regulatory agencies. When you add all of them up, it's not hard to see why 40% of single-site imaging centers and doctors officers in NY were forced to close or sell to larger corporations. Between legalized monopolies and over-regulation, both political parties have decimated our healthcare industry.

      @MrEddieLomax - THREE MONTHS TO START CANCER TREATMENT?! Gaaahh! As a two-time cancer survivor, I'd think that has to be terrifying for a patient - sitting there and waiting, worrying that it's spreading. My surgery happened within a week, and chemo right after that. My insurance covered most of the cost of my treatment, thankfully. I've heard horror stories about the NHS - lots of folks feel as you do, that it's not all it's cracked up to be, but that kind of delay is...wow. It seems we need a happy medium between what the UK has and the US system, huh?

    • @mikebrabant4170
      @mikebrabant4170 7 років тому

      In Canada it's normal to wait up to a year or more for surgery! And a lot of care is not covered by the so called free health care system! Like they say if it sounds too good to be true it probably is!!!! They give you some pills and send you home.

    I've always thought abandoned building like this, old factories, or even old malls should be made into homeless shelters or something to that effect. they could even get some of the homeless to help renovate or repair some of these places in exchange for shelter. Might be stupid but it would be better than letting it fall to the waste side.

      loef27 i agree with you 100%. That abandoned hotel that w in perfect condition just needed a little love could be a wonderful place for women with children that are leaving their abusive husband or boyfriend, it could be a great place for homeless families, even if you turn it in a nursery home something instead of just leaving it.

    • @regina0273
      @regina0273 7 років тому

      It's not a stupid idea at all. The stupid idea goes to the fool who decide to build the place and then abandon it. Then not find a good use for it. But then, they wouldn't be making money but losing money to help people in need so nvm.

    • @Tr0nzoid
      @Tr0nzoid 7 років тому +1

      Even homeless shelters need to conform to standards for their safety. They also need to be managed and have some kind of programs set up. "Get some of the homeless to help renovate..." There are all kinds of liability issues, and you can't just trade work for housing.

    For all of the chanting of "How can they just leave all this behind?" ...It's pretty clear that the hospital closed down in sections, and that the parts with all the equipment were only fully abandoned recently. Given the decay of the upper floors, parts of it obviously fell into disuse, which eventually made it fall far enough below local codes that the business had to find a new building... or close up. If you think it's been abandoned for very long, just look at the Fanta can that comes out of the machine. That logo has only been in use since 2008. It's very unlikely that the can comes from 2008, but it couldn't POSSIBLY be from before then. That and the fact that the power is still on, points to them maybe still being in the process of selling off the old equipment. Whatever still works, and is worth selling, anyway. Add to that, the fact that MOST vending machines belong to a parent company, who would come and reclaim them if no one used them, and you can suss out that the place is still in the process of being cleared. I swear, people don't think things through...

      The droopy peeling paint was Latex.
      Lead paint won't have been used in any high traffic areas, might be a smattering on some of the building maintenance equipment in the unused basement. Lead paint cracks off in wee flakes, & it takes an incredible amount of passed time, like 50 years not 5, unlike Latex.

  • @davidbowey2218

    The reason the hospital was abandoned was because the cost of renovation to the old section and repairing the water damage was more than the board was willing to spend. The hospital was not nearly profitable enough to justify dumping several hundred millions of dollars bringing it up to code. The true damage was to the staff that lost their jobs and to the community that lost its local medical care center. All because it wasn't profitable enough.

Some urbexers go around pocketing trinkets, smashing things, and running around not knowing what's around the next corner. • @georgewills-ek1gg

      yeah, like leaving radios on to mess with other people is totally respectful. in my opinion, being respectful means not touching anything, and if something is moved, to put it back literally EXACTLY the way you found it, not making any jokes, not hanging around in areas for to long, wearing the appropriate PPE and to always taking note of your surroundings and not taking any bend or corner for granted.

    I don't get it! Right after the elevator incident, the guy who went up the elevator said, "Let's get out of here. There's people up there. This is an active hospital". So...what is the story? Is this hospital abandoned? Not abandoned? Partially abandoned? Partially open? What is the complete story on this hospital? Also...there is a hospital literally 6 miles from me that is partially abandoned/closed, and partially used/open...so you would most likely encounter the same situation. The ER (ground floor) and X-ray/lab (1st floor) are open, and the remainder of the hospital from ground (cafeteria) to 1st floor (lobby), to 2nd floor (maternity/pediatrics), to 3rd floor (med/surg), to 4th floor (psych unit), are closed & abandoned. Is that the case with the hospital you guys were in or what?

      Sandra Pause our local hospital is like that also. We got a new 4th and 5th floor with PT suites. The basement/1st ER and 2st floor lab and surgery floors are open 3rd is our post surgery and is ground level with main st in the front of the hospital, the old 4th floor part above 3rd is mostly abandoned other then old files and used/outdated 60-70's surplus equipment.

    • @Emonell
      @Emonell 7 років тому +1

      This is usually what happens to hospitals when either another is being built or being relocated. That equipment is still there because it is either outdated/broken/will he moved later. The most expensive machines are gone. Most X-ray and MRI machines were built into the hospitals; now they are not. My old city hospital was like this, the top two floors still had administrative or medical coders working it in as they transferred equipment and documents over. People went into that one and filmed much like this one. The move contagion was filmed in my old community hospital before they tore the rest down. Now we have a super level 2 trama hospital and the old is just for storage until it’s beyond repair. Also, tax payer money isn’t involved in most hospitals since they’ve become private or commercial. So it’s not our money they’re wasting, but our land lots.

    Seems like a handful of staff till use the building. Usually they can be cool if you talk to them and explain what your doing. Next thing you know, they lead you all around to other places you didnt know about. I havent done this stuff in years but it was fun. Never recorded though. Thanks for the video!

    did a smol bit of digging after watching this. this hospital was decommissioned in 2001 (about the age of that computer, which, can we talk about that bc what. the heck. is up with that computer), but they used it as a homeless shelter for a while. but a murder of a kid and two other people happened and they closed it and now it's not anything. so. why the heck are there people on the top floor ???
    i did a quick google and there's One yelp review for this hospital, posted in 2011, where someone called to ask for an ambulance and said they told them 'not to waste their time' and hung up. either the people in the shelter at the time weren't a fan of former patients calling in, or something illegal and/or questionable is going down up there.
    as for the equipment, not all of it is still there, looks to me like they took/sold off what was worth paying to have sanitized, deconstructed, shipped, repaired, and re constructed already. stuff left in there probably isn't really too movable.
    regardless, there are some rumors that seth rich's skype pinged from there before he was murdered, so that's terrifying.

    • @p4ngolin
      @p4ngolin 7 років тому

      I thought that too, about the equipments. some of the things they tried were not working so that's why they got left. some others will cost more to have them removed than to buy a new one.
      Some were in working order and would have been better off sent to an hospital where it was needed but I am assuming taking it apart would cost too and with no return on that, the owners decided to just leave it (it looks too old to be sold). Guess they were not too big on charity.

    • @richlaue
      @richlaue 6 років тому

      I agree. Most of the stuff left behind because of weight would not be easy to move and bulky to store, if they did not have a final imeadiate destination it would cost to much

    I remember this place. there were fatalities daily. Some kind of airborne thing. People, doctors and nurses included, would go insane shortly after. They never found any trace of anything, no poisons, bacteria or anything. Some say it was cursed and people feared even being on the property. None of this is true but that's the story I would attach :)

    Crazy place, man. I explored an old hospital from the '50s and '60s, out in Montana, and there was all sorts of stuff left behind. Found old restraining stretchers (is that what they're called?), x-ray machine, vials of...stuff, old x-rays of injuries and the bronze frames that they used, mental illness medications, etc. Just left there, even records with names on them.

    With regards to selling off the equipment it depends on if the hospital is private or state owned. I know some hospitals have bids for old equipment to go out to teaching facilities and schools. But unfortunately, most of the time it’s more expensive to go in and take the equipment out than it is to sell it off

      I don't see how they could have easily cleared out that much missing eating in a month.
      My guess that the mystery people where part of the cleanup crew
      Before closing part of it was a homeless shelter, which would explain why do much equipment is missing

    Subbed. I'm sure this place was close to a public auction. I used to sell used medical equipment and dental supplies. You walked past probably 30 to 50K in equipment. Those medical lights sell for a grand alone. The chairs were nice too. Not really that old. The medical cabinets are worth a fortune. Just a pain to move. All medical equipment are always in high demand. Made a killing selling it. Hope it all went to good use and not abandoned.

    Equipment at 16:31 is phone switching gear. It is not data storage. If the building is partially still in use (i.e., the other people encountered), they would leave the phone gear powered. I would say if you found phone sets around the offices, they would likely still have dial tone if you picked up the handset. The signature RnK phone trick would be legit this time!

    From what I understand District of Columbia General Hospital is still a homeless shelter even now. It is not abandoned it still has staff and sometimes upwards of 270 families living there.
