As an aspiring background artist, People don't tend to realize how difficult it is on how to make backgrounds to convey a mood or a setting. That's why seeing backgrounds on anime just mind blows me sometimes on how they added the light/shadows.

One anime I believe that deserves to be featured in this video yet wasn't is Madoka Magica. The unique backgrounds (cut-out style) draw attention of the audience, yet sometimes also feature elaborate and symbolic scenery (eg. the buildings and roads and various scenes)

I was wondering if you have done or could do a video about purely how they make and 'film' scenes? Like the methods such as cel animation for panning shots, as well as digitally created backgrounds. Would love to know more! :D

Hey I’m looking for an anime that had a 4th wall break scene explaining background art and stuff. It’s been a year or so but all I remember is a detective and his female apprentice going over how the suspect couldn’t have used a certain item as it was part of the drawn background in the scene. It was a weird scene that went over how the animated characters can’t interact with background objects😂

As a student learning 3D animation, the environmental art of anime has always inspired and fascinated me. I’ve tried to replicate it to some degree in Photoshop (to varying degrees of success), but I’m still left awestruck.
I’m not usually one who watches anime, but lately I have been getting into it more. One that I revisited was Sword Art Online. Now, I personally don’t care about its plot, however, I do care about its music and art style. The details that the artists convey in SAO is nothing short of museum-worthy, so to its melancholy yet tranquil musical compositions with the acoustic guitar and piano. Specifically for me, I adore how they managed to capture the natural beauty of the mountains and lakeside cabin, both of which resonated with me on a personal level (I live a few hours drive from the Rockies and my family once owned a lakeside cabin), so the nostalgia is there.
And that’s really the beauty of it, they perfectly encapsulated the emotions of the scene. Of the characters at their cabin. One of peaceful, bittersweet catharsis in an unforgiving world, much the same as our own.
