This song is much older than a lot of people think, it was written and recorded in the early thirties. But the big hit of the song came in a 1946 recording by Frankie Laine. It was the first of his 21 Gold Records. Many singers in every musical style from Country to do-wop have recorded it. But no matter how it's done "That's My Desire" is a great song.
I first heard this song on the 1983 LP "Buddy Holly - For the First Time Anywhere"; he had recorded it in 1958, but it was never released back then. My mom derided me for thinking that Buddy had written it, saying Frankie Laine had recorded it first (and he had, a year earlier). Both versions (as well as numerous other versions of the song) are available on UA-cam. If you like hearing how different people interpret the same song, look it up. Also - for a neat history on the song, see wiki
"To spend one night with you In our old rendezvous And reminisce with you That's my desire (To meet where gypsies play Down in that dim cafe) To dance till break of day That's my desire We'll sip a little glass of wine And I'll gaze into your eyes divine I'll feel the touch of your lips Pressing on mine To hear you whisper low Just when it's time to go "Cheri, (johnny) I love you so" "You're my desire"

In our old rendezvous
And reminisce with you
That's my desire
(To meet where gypsies play
Down in that dim cafe)
To dance till break of day
That's my desire
We'll sip a little glass of wine
And I'll gaze into your eyes divine
I'll feel the touch of your lips
Pressing on mine
To hear you whisper low
