aS a KpOp StAn I sort of agree. The kpop fandom in itself is actually really mean towards other kpop fans. The amount of people being attacked for hating on kpop is nothing compared to the amount of people attacked for liking the "wrong" groups or, god forbid, liking more than one group. However, if you’re able to see past the fanwars and the aggressive fans who harass you for not voting for your favorite group a billion times per day for some sort of award, the kpop fandom is full of lots of really cool and talented people.
It’s just like any other fandom that has a lot of teenagers, except that people will put all kpop stans in the same box (whether you’re an army, blink, once, vip, etc.), therefore it probably seems like a more toxic fandom. Imagine if you took all fans of western pop artists and put them in the same box. In my opinion that would be probably just as toxic.
The fandoms were part of the reason why I was skeptical in the beginning, but the music, the choreographies, the artists, the fashion, and everything else (except the companies and the industry as a whole lol) is pretty good and if you like pop music you should give it a chance.

The replies were people sympathizing with them and wishing them the best in life. And then a Kpop stan replied "ARMYYYYYYYYYYY ❤🌸💞❤🌸💞" like a whole insensitive asshole. When she was called out on it she got all salty and started saying that BTS's music is wayy more revolutionary and ground breaking than Linkin Park ever was.

Toxic is not quite the right word... It's more of a 'chidish' or 'overreacting' fanbase.. I love K-pop, and the bad apples are just overprotective drama queens, most of the time, that get to the point of harassing label managers because an idol looks a bit too thin on their last gram post, so "they obviously have an eating disorder"... They love to ignore that it's an idustry heavy artform, nd that theses artists sign contracts. Not to say that criticism is often shunned, since every song is a "yas queen slay snatch my wig". There exist, however, spaces outside of popular social media where fans can actually discuss the music, where you won't be linched for saying SNSDs Holiday is hot garbage and the b-side is miles better.
That being said, if you think they are any worse than the Eminem fanbase, you "Drink Way Too Much Mountain Dew", as Earl said best.
Or, you know... the XXXtentacion fandom...

I remember this guy who made a vid used a ke$ha version of a Girl's Generation song and the k-pop fans chewed him out and made him delete the video. AND THIS WAS ALMOST 15 YEARS AGO. The K-Pop fandom has always been toxic and horrible. It just got out of control when k-pop got big outside of just weebs

I actually like the “Parental Advisory” tag. Always have. Maybe because my dad always used to make me buy all the “clean” Albums when I was younger. That and I think it just looks cool. I don’t think it takes away from the album cover. I might even go as far to say as it makes it even better

I'd just like to warn everyone that a bald man in a flannel shirt that looked suspiciously like Anthony keeps knocking on my door, trying to sell me nifty, comfortably fitting wallets. I respected him at first, but now he's beginning to disturb me quite prominently... Sometimes, I catch him lit by streetlights at the edge of the street, staring up at my window for hours at a time. It's getting annoying as the Jahovah Witnesses around here, and I fear for my safety at this juncture. If anyone has any information about this man, please do let me know.

I used to be in the kpop community in 2014 till 2018 and let me tell you, it used to be quite peaceful until they become mainstream and overrated, especially Bts, and I used to be a hardcore army. But the more famous they are the more toxic and obsessed fans you'll have. And I also realized that most are 11-16 years old. I'm now 19 and I'm glad I got over my obsession.

I feel like the parental advisory sticker adds to the aesthetic of some album art. Some like Watching Movies use it creatively too. It's kinda neat how the sticker was created to stifle rap music sales, but now rap is running the music industry and the sticker is mainly vestigial. The creative kids won

I have a story for this. So on this one amino (I assure you it is NOT at all supposed to be K-pop themed), there are multiple themes of K-pop. It’s an amino for templates that are literally almost all k-pop themed. And it makes me mad because I dislike k-pop (sue me) and all I did was share my opinion in this amino. I said that there’s more k-pop posts here than on the actual amino, because I was actually getting tired of them being featured all the time. But yet for some reason, millions of people commented stuff like “it’s still *’on topic’* “ and I was just like, dang, chill! All I was doing was sharing my opinion and 50 of the kewaboos tell me off. This is why I hate anything to do with k-pop...

I think the guy talking about the tours being optional could be right if the artist does a pay-per-view type livestream. As long as it’s something cool it could be a new way to get a “live” performance experience.

    • @ItsNotDC

I think that this idea could fill a niche (that clearly exists, as evidenced by the popularity of Tiny Desk, etc.), but still doubt that it would reach a point where live recording sales would seriously challenge live ticket sales. Live recordings can have a different vibe and sound more intimate (than studio recordings), but they don't (at least in my opinion) fully capture the energy and feeling of being in a crowd and taking in the perfomance first-hand.

I feel like Kpop fandom can get annoying because of the ultra-competitive nature of the Kpop landscape. Obviously, all pop is competitive, but when the industry runs on live performance competitions on TV, the fans feel the need to support their artist and get them to 'win'. That's why you get people constantly saying things like 'stan MAMAMOO' or replying to unrelated tweets with fancams.

There's a difference between annoying and toxic.
K Pop stans are annoying at times, but they rarely gang up and attack people with different opinions as other actual toxic fanbases do.

0motig0 Seventeen are known for doing their own choreography and songs. BTS are almost famous for having a hand 95% of their own discography. They decide themselves what they want to write about. Though not all groups have artistic freedom, a big number of them are starting to get involved, especially the youngest groups.
While no one should attack you, your statement does show that you didn’t really do much research.
I’ll gladly give you some links to music videos with artistic merit in them.
Regardless of that, I’m sorry that you were attacked. Most k-pop fans, especially on UA-cam and Instagram, are morons.
