- In this video interview with Italian horror director Lucio Fulci, also called as "The Godfather of Gore".
He speaks Italian, and his assistant Loris Curci, the author of "Shock Masters of the Cinema" helps Fulci to speak English to you. Also appearing David Warbeck (The Beyond, The Black Cat). When the interview is finished, then at last it appears the actress Catriona MacColl (The Gates of Hell, The Beyond, The House by the Cemetery), she talks about her movie career. Besides there is little talking with public guards. This interview was believed that took place in London, according to the book "Beyond the Gates".
The picture itself has a low vhs-like quality. It seemed like that the cameraman shooted it with a vhs-handcamera.
The films that talks about:
"Massacre Time"
"Four of the Apocalypse"
"Silver Saddle" (Sella d'argento)
"Zombie" (Zombi 2 / Zombie Flesh Eaters)
"The Beyond" (7 Doors of Death)
"The New York Ripper"
"A Cat in the Brain" (Nightmare Concert / Un gatto in cervello)
"Door Into Silence" (available on DVD from distributor Severin Films)
"Reservoir Dogs"
"Frankenstein" (1994)
"Pulp Fiction"
"The Wax Mask" (Maschera di cera)

Most people don’t realize that Fulci made his horror films as nightmares. This is why they’re so violent (as in a nightmare) and sexual (as in a dream and he’s also Italian after all, LOL). He was an intelligent man with a quick mind willing to go anywhere where many directors would not go. Many think he was a hack. I think had he had big budgets and toned down his gore and sex, he would have been a famous main stream director. RIP Lucio.
The artist lives inside his operas. Great Fulci.
GREAT ADMIRATION FOR THIS GENIUS OF ITALIAN HORROR CINEMA R.I.P MAESTRO
I can totally relate with what Fulci is saying that his films help with anxiety. They help me relax and unwind.
He was a genius for making L 'Adila. If only I could of met him. I was nine when this interview took place. A master at artistic hard-core horror.
Fulci lives.
Hope the maestro will come back as a zombie! :)
The best.
One of (if not the best) horror director ever I know he also did a couple of comedies and westerns but a real master at horror, The Beyond is among my top favourite horror movies a true masterpiece aswell as Zombi 2. Thanks for uploading this - Fulci lives!
Wow stupendo video, grazie! Fulci lives!
thanks heaps for the upload
Grandissimo, Rip Maestro
ammirato in Inghilterra. dimenticato in Italia.
urbech non è vero
forse lo hai dimenticato tu ,non parlare a nome di una Nazione .
Dunno much about his flicks, but he was able to bring the most out of a shoestring budget movie, terrific make up, photography, camera/sound-work etc, according to critics was really talented
thank you for posting this! I especially love the part at 39:19 hahahaha Fulci had a great sense of humor
Fulci lives forever
Sad to hear him speak about Wax mask, shouldve been his swan song!
FULCI LIVES!
Use to exchange videos with Loris Curci back in the draconian days of the VRA in the 80s. Got many a good film from Italy
Manca troppo questo geniaccio... L'unico regista che avrei voluto conoscere per farci due chiacchiere....
Fulci original oil paintings at www.angelomarianoart.com
This is the time he got that photo with Andreas Schnaas, right?
A great Director. The Best.
Ouch! How many translation errors!! :\
the big fulci
He talks about a movie 'The wax mask' (at first should have been a remake of 'The mummy') who should have directed himself and produced by Dario Argento but unfortunately they never realized it. Has been directed by Sergio Stivaletti after Fulci's death.
RIP maestro
grande lucio
Hi,
Would you know who (or which organization) owns the original master of this interview by anychance? Many thanks for your help.
theproxybar At the time it was Trevor Barley at Media Publications who was involved with organising it all so would think he has the master for it
Kersey Would you have any contact of Trevor Barley? Would you know how to obtain a license for using this content? Thanks!
Kersey also if anyone at Media Publications could help, if the organization stil exists, if you had any contact that'd be great!
theproxybar you could try the 'Contact' section on the Teraz films website (www.terazfilms.co.uk) as 'rumour has it' that Trevor Barley has involvement with those films ;)
No one can do horror like those Italians 💯💯💯👍🏼
wow its good lucio and David thank you
cazzo di figata
From what I've seen he spoke English but probably not well.
genius, sadly now passed
Good stuff I wish I went but I was in 2nd or 3rd grade at the time.
very nice
I was there :)
I find it fascinating that the Italians Copy what the Americans are doing, yet they do a much better job. Even the Westerns of Sergio Leone, who like Fulci, spoke very little English made Westerns in Spain with an Italian crew and they were more realistic than American Westerns.
Lucio Fulci , Dario Argento , Tom Savini , George Romero are the Gods of horror and suspence. If they didnt make the movie , its not much interest to me.
Lucio Fulci is still the best - number one than Dario. But Dario for me - he isn't making a single movie anymore - what a loser. His daughter Asia is a BIG shame. Tom Savini is announcing for directing a new film "Nightmare City" but it still delays long enough - six years has gone. George A. Romero is clearly better than Tobe Hooper. Any thoughts?
@@giofre Ikr... The horror movies of today are full of Rat shit.. I even dont watch zombie movies anymore . How the hell can dead people run fsster than the living ????
@@giofre The Italian directors are the best in Horror and gore. They know how to make you sleep with ALL the lights on😆😆😆
@@alexandert7144 Japanese director Takashi Miike, he did a lot of nasty stuff in almost all of his movies it's extreme. But Ringu is a good Japanese scary. Do you like Japanese horror? For the other hand, I don't think that the new Nightmare City is going to be a good film, Tom Savini is going to fail. Zombies run faster what a joke.
@@giofre Yea, for sure . Thanks to cgi movie makers have gotten very lazy. Zombie film makers today want everything faster i guess. People today are not as patient . Quick kills , fast speed. A bunch of unrealistic hogwash to satisfy the quickie generation.
what was it he sed he could not translate
Amatissimo all estero...solo in Italia poteva essere snobbato...
This was a fantastic fest
Fulci was always a proud communist and socialist, always for the poor and oppressed.
Zero non mi piace. Godo.
È assolutamente rimarchevole !
ah i think i under stand thank very much
