The pommel also works as a glass breaker. Many of the Ontario modern folders are made in Taiwan. From what I understand, the old tooling From the Ontario factory was bought by Rowen. And yes. Randall's Adventure Training reamed up with Ontario to produce their knives but were never really satisfied with the end result. Eventually they teamed up with Rowen and ESEE knives became the knives of Randall's Adventure & Training. This led to some lawsuits concerning breach of contract and Trademark disputes. In the end, Ontario was allowed to continue to produce a RAT line of knives but Randall's Adventure & Training were not obligated to buy them and they moved over to ESEE/ Rowen. A good part of this had to with Randall wanting to have more control on the build quality as well as warranties with the product. From what I have read the Quality of the Ontario RAT line started to diminish as soon as the folks from Randall got out of their Ontario contract.
