Greenwolfe Green Well, accumulate medals is greatness because is to mantain your body and your skills competitive throught time. Caslavska achieved 9 Olympic golds. in what years do you imagine? she's the greatest.
Having a bunch of medals doesn't automatically make you one of the world's greatest gymnasts- it could but not necessarily. Some of these girls on the list medalled in the the 50's or around about that time when the standards of difficulty were significantly lower. Some of the apparatuses were different and it was just altogether a different sport in many ways. When the standards of difficulty are lower, its easier for one reasonably talented person to come in and dominate. For instance, the list placed Alicia Sacramone, Cheng Fei, and Shawn Johnson WAY behind Larissa Latynina (who preformed a very basic level 7 vault and yet has the most medals). Now compare that to Alicia's handspring front layout with a one and a half twist. When the competition is stiffer, its harder to rack up medals. Alicia, Cheng, and Shawn were up against much stronger gymnasts than Latynina. Medals are only one part of greatness. Degree of difficulty as well as general artistry should have been factored in somehow. Doesn't mean the girls from way back when weren't talented- Vera Caslavska is the most graceful gymnast I've ever seen. You can't help but be mesmerized- she just isn't performing at the same degree of difficulty as some of the more recent girls.

My person favorite is Shannon Miller. She and I are both from Oklahoma which is amazing. She's never forgotten where she came from. Shannon's Balance Beam routine at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics was amazing! She is one that people don't really talk about that much. It's always Mary Lou Retton, Kerri Strug, Shawn Johnson or Simone Biles. People know who she is but they don't mention her as much which sucks because when Shannon was competing she was amazing. I think the reason why they don't talk about her as much is because they know that she was amazing.
I agree she is not mentioned as much as she should be. I think one reason for that is because she was humble. She just went out and did amazing work time after time but didn’t have to make a show of it or draw attention to herself like some gymnasts feel the need to do today.
Safwan Kher I totally agree. Nadia did moves no one had ever even thought of much less tried. She was so far above the other competitors it was almost unbelievable. Nadia completely changed the sport from judging, the point system, and the athleticism expected in the sport. Watching her get her perfect 10s was something I will never forget even being so young. It was the most exciting competition ever seen.
I think it is important to note that the number of medals is impacted by the 16+ rule that was not in place place prior to 1997. Imagine how many metals Simone Biles would have if we could start counting them when she was 14 (like Nadia).
If you're going to do that, then you have to also imagine how many medals the other gymnasts could have amassed if Worlds were held every year instead of every two or four.
I think it's amazing how Simone is 5th on this list with only being at the senior level for 3 years while everyone else who is above her has 10 plus years at that level.
Stacey Clark now it'd not even artistic gymnastics it's power tumbling. 4 yrs ago she would not even be relevant she would be like Shawn Johnson super powerful but not scored too high because of lack of extension. She is powerful and has alot of talent but she isn't graceful nor elegant like the sport is meant to be.
Steven hunt She's not Shawn Johnson. She's not only far more powerful than Shawn Johnson, but her leaps have full extension and reach at least 180 degrees.
Steven hunt Jesus Christ!! Can you guys stop with that grace and artistry shit. Your grace and artistry aren't awarded in CoP so they don't need to have grace or artistry
I hope she has a strong comeback. It was a shame to see Gabby have an unsuccessful comeback (I mean, team gold is awesome and I love her but compared to London...) Aly's went very well and I hope Simone's does too.
it was nice to see so many long ago gymnast.. some of them I don't know.. I basically start following from my perfect 10 girl Nadia.. and she will remain forever in my heart.. then Miller, I wanted shawn to win in 2008, so I stop following I was prod of Gabby for earing her spot.. then simone came along and dominate everything just like my girl Nadia..
GrangerDangerx Gabby's comeback was not unsuccessful she was #2 behind Biles at World's after a 2 yr hiatus from the sport and won/medaled in 3 international AA comps prior to Rio and top 3 in qualifying....Her quals score actually outscored Mustafina and Aly's during their AA finals she would have easily gotten the silver had she competed. Her comeback is actually one of the most successful out of the former AA champions.
GymnasticFan Biles is 100x better than anyone....I don't like how ya'll try and compare her to Gabby though...Gabby is great in her own right no need to tear another gymnast down. Gabby had a better comeback than either Liukin and Johnson that's for sure. She made two Olympic teams first to achieve that since Nadia Comaneci...Not many can say that.
Donna Baldwin actually a world ch. was every 2 years and to get into the olympics was at least at 12 in a 100 in the olden days but yes Simone is great
Donna Baldwin she's just the best there ever was. But there are some reaaaaallly talented gymnasts on the way and currently that I think these top girls need to watch out! Lol
THE GZ yeah if she (I pray she does stay healthy and injury free) goes to Tokyo and the 2018/19 worlds. She will easily be #1. And she's back training so I've no doubt. She's a beast!!!
Simone is 5th place and when this video was made, she was only three years into her career. Imagine how many points she will have in five, ten more years 😍
True, but she's not likely to have any more in ten than she will in five. Even if she doesn't retire after Tokyo as she's said, 2024 in Paris is still only five years out.
@@hectorcarlos9743Aliya was better than Svetlana…. In a multitude of ways. Her bar’s revolutionized the event even more than Khorkina did (let’s face it, NO ONE does her skills anymore whereas Aliya’s combos are still commonplace). She was also far more of a representative of her sport in how she conducted herself, how she treated her competitors and everyone involved and how she reacted to any results. First place? Fantastic! Second place on back? Hey ok, let’s celebrate with the individual(s) who beat me! That is the true measure of a champion.
We know Simone has surpassed this medal count since this was done but I'd like to see this with more a few more points given to the AA Golds and event finals worth a few more than team golds.
I’m still a Nadia Comaneci fan. Sure she’s waaaaay old school; but after seeing the movie of her life, I have great respect for what she went through to get to her 10.0.
Only so many spots. If five make the team the sixth could be among the best in the world and never even get to compete on the world stage. Different sport my favorite female figure skater was consistently the U.S.'s best for about 10 years but every year someone else was better for a little while then faded away.
1972 is when the sport changed. It was my life. It is a different sport completely now. USA wasn't even on the world map. Cathy Rigby got a silver in Mexico in 1968 on the beam and she was the first American to even be noticed. 1972, everyone was watching the Olympics and Olga Korbut did a back somersault on the beam and a back lay out on the high bar into a flying hip circle. It was revolutionary at the time and considered too dangerous but the world loved it. The gyms in the US started filling up with little girls and then in 1976 Nadia's scores made the sport even more popular. Ludmilla Tourischeva was the real champion prior to Nadia. The bars completely collapsed under her at the Worlds and she still won every gold. Met her and Olga Korbut and Nelli Kim on a US tour....My heroes at the time. Now it's a completely different sport with ten times the difficulty and danger level from pre 1972. They would have fainted back then at what gymnasts are doing now. So proud of USA gymnasts. Once a gymnast, always a gymnast.
That was because of the presence of the Soviet Union. The USA had very capable, talented gymnasts who were completely overlooked and disregarded because they weren’t from the eastern block. Cathy’s medal at worlds was actually a shock because people figured no American would be permitted a medal. Today, judging is based on performance thankfully.
Its so Amaazing to see just HOW EASY IT WAS BACK IN THE 50'S compare to now. U'd think it was completely a different sport. Amazing the transformation.
It is very interesting to see the progression of the sport over the years. I do feel like I should point out that many of the elements performed by the very early gymnasts are things that my 5 year old daughter is already learning. This is not to say that those women did not do great things in their time. Absolutely they did! The sport has just advanced so much even since I was a competitive gymnast in the late 80s and early 90s. I think it is difficult to rank based solely on number of medals with no regard to difficulty of execution.
I agree just watching the vaults and floor routines from back in the 40s and 50s I was thinking I was doing those skills when I was in my first and second year in gymnastics. They were basic but what I found interesting was the skills they did on the uneven bars. I've never seen gymnasts preform from those decades. This sport has evolved so much and in that evolution it has definitely gained so much but at the same time it has lost a lot. It has gained more difficult skills on all events but it's lost a lot of the creativity and dance especially on floor, and it's lost the fluidity of uneven bars that it had back in the 70s and 80s when there seemed to be more transition between the high and low bar.
it is astounding how the difficulty in the skills has progressed through the years..particularly on the bars and the flooe exersizes.. i think simone has to be number 1 now lol
Same, she is mine too :) and I'm an American so that's between you and me. Lol Besides being the Queen of the UB, my favorite apparatus, she was 5'5 and 25 when she won silver in the AA at the Olympics. That just speaks for itself. Sometimes I think I'm the only one that appreciates how much talent plus hard work she had to have under her belt to do that. Simone will medal in AA at 25 at the Olympics if she is lucky and not injured beforehand, God willing, but she is 4'8 and muscular which gave her a huge advantage over Sveta just due to genetics. Sveta is nearly a foot taller, which in this sport is a huge disability. She had a hard time finding a coach to even take such a tall thin gymnast. Being the size of a 10 year old makes Simones power tumbling far far easier, but Sveta's lines are obviously far better...the best I ever saw. And I loved her passion and drama. When she called Sydney a black spot in her soul I felt it too how much she loved her sport and how much it hurt they messed up the vault and, consequently, her mind. Then she still found it in her to come back another quad where she finally got her AA medal. A silver, but to me it's like she's missing an AA Gold that she should have got in 2000, plus that silver.... Which is debatable whether she really deserved Gold or not even then. Love her so much, and her patriotism for her country is very beautiful as well.
Dan Myers Yes, and Silivas to 6th, Nadia Comaneci to 7th, Shannon Milller to 9th, Mustafina to 11th and Amanar to 13th, Liukin to 14th. LOL. In the truth it will change a lot of things.
GymnasticFan, you are a true fan and a wonderful video editor. This is altogether very tasteful. The main criticism I would have of this is the weighting of All-Around medals and Event Final medals. Also, what does one do with Team medals, because a gymnast can't always help his or her team's strength/weakness? Nevertheless, I really appreciate your overall pretty painstaking effort. To speak generally, Nadia's greatness often isn't reflected quite as well as it should be because of her performance at Worlds (messed up in 78 AA badly) and injured and didn't even compete fully at 79 Worlds. But her Olympic record, as I have it, is top 3 with Latynina and Caslavska. Her 3 Euro AA titles is also matched only by Khorkina. But what she did to the sport - she broke the ceiling with all of her 10s and she redefined perfection. She also made a comeback, and competed as a mature woman very, very successfully. Many people will now be comparing Biles to Comaneci. Biles has surpassed Comaneci in terms of her overall medal haul, and her dominance is unbelievable, but I don't think that it even matters how many more World and Olympic medals she wins - Nadia's overall impact on the sport is unmatchable historically. Surely, though, Biles is the greatest since Comaneci. 2nd greatest since Comaneci, I think, is Khorkina. Latynina will always be the gold standard for the classic era. There may have been a couple of more elegant gymnasts (Astakhova, for example) or more powerful gymnasts (Caslavska) or trickster specialists (Bosakova on beam), but Latynina's consistency and elegance and dominance make her the quintessential classic gymnast. Gymnasts who competed before individual Olympic medals were rewarded will hopefully come to light some day. The biggest name among those is probably Vlasta Dekanova who was the first-place finisher at the 1934 and 1938 Worlds - the first 2 Worlds for women. I'm hoping that some day, footage of her will be unearthed. Zdenka Honsova was the first-place finisher at the 1948 Olympics, and I hope the same for her. It will also be interesting to see how good the German women at the 1936 Olympics really were, because their win seems questionable, in context. What really complicates matters even more is the ever-nebulous specter of Politics. The U.S. women were really underscored, probably for decades. Muriel Grossfeld and Joan Moore were much greater gymnasts than their lack of Olympic/World medals suggests. Also, gymnasts from less-powerful countries, generally speaking, did not get the results they should have. Well, I wouldn't have written all that if you hadn't done a really great job at this. Of course, I do realize you said "most successful", not necessarily "greatest". But this was a really fine piece of work. Thank you so much.
UPDATE: Simone would now have 74 points after the 2018 Worlds. She would be in 4th place. Though, she did tie the score of 3rd but the tiebreaker according to the creator of this video is the Olympic medal score so she would be knocked back a place!
Thank you for your hard-work putting this together! My favorites (not just on this list) are Nadia, Olga, Silivas, Elana S, Bogi, Shannon Miller, and Mary Lou as far as just enjoying watching them!
Four Olympic medals, three silver and a gold, world AA and floor champion, multiple other medals in a variety of competitions. I’d say your opinion is a little skewed.
Věra Čáslavská and Eva Bosáková are my favorites, not just because I'm Czech but especially Věra had a tough end of the career , she got more than 5 olympic golds. As well she wasn't good only in sports - she was also a pretty smart a nice person.
@@Cyoan79it’s called performance fool. You want corruption, look at the era when the Soviet Union was in control. They hoarded the medals while usurping from those who actually were deserving. Just ask Vera K, who should never have shared a gold medal with anyone else. Today gymnastics is judged by performance and capability- not country of origin. Get real.
This is a wonderful compilation that really shows how much the sport has changed over the years. One girl looked like she was doing her floor routine in the convention hall of a Howard Johnson's. Props to you for finding all that old footage.
If medals are the only measure of success, it is a pity, because gymnastics used to be an art as well as a sport. 2 not included here: Laura Cutina from Romania and Mary Lou Retton from the USA. Laura had the misfortune to be in the same Olympics as Mary Lou Retton and Ecaterina Szabo, and they overshadowed her. Mary Lou Retton was the darling of the gymnastics world, not only for her skill, but for her personality .
Mary Lou didn't go to a single WC. Mary Lou has 1 gold medal. Mary Lou won her gold medal when the dominant gymnastics force wasn't even there. Those Soviet girls would have crushed her. She would have lost to anyone on that team except their weakest members and Olga Mostepanova would have utterly humiliated her.
@@shushunovafan4301they would have been GIVEN the medals because of biased Soviet judging, no further discussion. Their lack of presence was refreshing for the sport.
Undoubtedly, an achievement not even dreamt by Yurchenko, Moukhina among those who don,t appear in the video, or Comaneci, Korbut or Biles. Great changes!!!
It was very enlightening to see all of the different types of routines from olden days and more recent. I would love to see and updated version since this was from 2016.
It still is , just because your preference is grace and balletic doesn't mean AG isn't artistic. Don't blame these girls for the "no artistry" bs , blame the FIG.
No one ever said anything about "grace and ballet" +dont even and the very fact that you bring it up as a shield to deflect from the fact that these girls can't dance. The FIG is only partly to blame, but certain nations have ALWAYS done the bare minimum when it comes to creativity (and whilst I heavily blame USAG there are other culprits *cough 90's Romanian gymnastics cough*). +Brent Williams Wrong. It's ARTISTIC gymnastics. They need artistry, there are rules in the cop for this and a 0.5 deduction if you don't have any. It's why the women perform to music. The judges just cherrypick the rules that they want to follow.
I am surprised that two of my favorites didn't win more medals. Tatiana Gutsu the gilded bird was awesome competing alongside the Belarussian Swan: Boginskaya. Those team medals owe as much to Gutsu as to Bogy. Injury kept my all time favorite Kim Zmescl from contending for individual Olympic medals ( just the way it is) but I thought she had a lot of medals at worlds. I checked their medal counts. Gutsu was tied for 40th. Olympians trump Worlds. Missed it by that much.
Even if you decide to update this video can you please never take this version down? I love it, the compilation of the gymnasts’s skills and the music choice is superb
2018 add 15 more points to Simone Biles total. She is tied with Vera for 3rd. Only a worlds bronze medal behind Khorkina and 6 years behind the incomparable Latynina.
This is an intriguing list especially when you consider that a lot of these top ladies earned huge points in 6 years or less. Like Daniela Silivas who earned all her points in only1 Olympic event and 4 years all together. PS. Have to point out that this is a little unfair to Simone Biles considering the 2020 World Championship Competition and The Olympics both got postponed or she would be higher than she is here.
@@saragrant9749From what is public knowledge about her I believe she was very complicated. She did suffer a few injuries but nothing career ending. I think she achieved everything she had wanted from her career. Plus the fact that being from a very crowded line of gymnasts.
Simon Biles is by far the best... with only 1 Olympics participation she got 1 medals and with a 3-4 years careers she got another 14 world championship medals.!! She is only 19!!!
If she sticks around for another quad or two she can be the best of all time. It's not the result you get in a short time but on how long can you stay in the game and perform on a higher level and still get a great result.
+Kim W she's already the GOAT. The fact she's 5th on this list is testament too that. She's taking time off so she probably won't be at Worlds next year. In 4 years she's won 14 international gold medals.
I understand that. If you read my comment and if you understood it well, you won't have to reiterate what I said about her accomplishing much in a short time. As I've said and I'll say it again. She has the potential to be the best of all time if she sticks around and continue doing great so she add more medals to her collection. Mustafina, Paseka, Raisman, & Douglas are examples of those who could stick around longer and still have best results after their peak during their teenage years and can still get great results and aren't forgotten easily.
I really enjoyed watching the way the women preformed on the uneven bars back in the 40s and 50s granted the skills weren't difficult they were a lot different then what's done now. I was shocked to see some of the biggest names like Nadia, Olga, Nastia, Svetlana(both of them) Shawn, Shannon and Simone ranked so far back. I still think that the uneven bar routines were the best to watch back in the 70s and 80s.
I'd love it if a modern gymnast tossed in some of the old-timey strength and balance moves on the bars... (Though some may not be possible. I'm pretty sure the bars are further apart.) Nadia is still the queen. But wow, has the sport evolved.
Why did everyone think Nadia was better than Olga? They were one quad apart and I watch both their peak routines now. I'll never understand why didn't Olga get some perfects 10s the quad before Nadia hit the scene? especially when her routines that hit were more difficult and executed perfect. And that backwards rollout of the back somersault only Olga did!? She was better! But like Svetlana Khorkina said, Of course I got the silver. I am Russian after all. (I'm translating) lol
A lot of these older uneven bars routines are really creative and cool, I really like them, like where they sit on or bounce off the bar, really cool

I was watching Olga on the bars, and that move just sticks out immediately. I realized I had not seen it anywhere else.
@@palacerevolution2000 no I don't know how long it took them to ban it. Looks like if you fell you'd get hurt bad. Simone Biles has a double tripled dismount from the beam or on the floor. She has to do a double double

Everyone here's arguing the rankings and I'm over here just pissed that every number ends with "th" EVEN WHEN THEY'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO.
Alyssa Winchester me too
true
Not everybody speaks English as a first language, so you should be more tolerant and respectful.
Alyssa Winchester omg I saw the SAME THING AND IT REALLY PISSED ME OFF.....”21th, 23th”.....it’s so annoying
Alyssa Winchester You gotta be joking!
I really miss the old bar routines...they were so different than the other events...now it's blending with the other events:(
Because they’ve banned everything 😓
@@DominicaHeart they banned skills that were too dangerous for the gymnasts
Ianxle Vergara yeah I get it! It’s understandable, but it’s also those same moves that made routines unique.
@@DominicaHeart you mean uniquely dangerous?😂
Ianxle Vergara 😂😂 that too. But i mean most of gymnastics is pretty dangerous
Nadia Comaneci she is the best
Agree... Nadia changed even the points process
+Cesar Pilot 👍👍👍
No one could even touch nadia. She will always be the best.
Erin Yurchenko BEST GYMNAST EVER I HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE A BILLION TIMES 😀😀😀😀😀
Safwan Kher I totally agree. Nadia did moves no one had ever even thought of much less tried. She was so far above the other competitors it was almost unbelievable. Nadia completely changed the sport from judging, the point system, and the athleticism expected in the sport. Watching her get her perfect 10s was something I will never forget even being so young. It was the most exciting competition ever seen.
I think it is important to note that the number of medals is impacted by the 16+ rule that was not in place place prior to 1997. Imagine how many metals Simone Biles would have if we could start counting them when she was 14 (like Nadia).
Simone then isn't the same Simone she is now if you look when she was 14
If you're going to do that, then you have to also imagine how many medals the other gymnasts could have amassed if Worlds were held every year instead of every two or four.
Nadia, O Kurbut, and Daniela Silivas. My favorite ones.
Mikhail Larayes What amazes me is Daniela did that medal haul in 4 years. Others may have more medals, but competed longer.
I loved elana S too. Rip
Svetlana Khorkina!!! Svetlana Khorkina !!! Svetlana Khorkina!!!
Stacey Clark yeah! And a lot of them have been to multiple Olympics she's only been to one!
Steven hunt She's not Shawn Johnson. She's not only far more powerful than Shawn Johnson, but her leaps have full extension and reach at least 180 degrees.
Steven hunt What are you talking about? Simone is graceful in the air. Her tumbling is effortless.
Steven hunt Jesus Christ!! Can you guys stop with that grace and artistry shit. Your grace and artistry aren't awarded in CoP so they don't need to have grace or artistry
Shawn deserved better
I think Simone will take part in 2020, 2024 Olympics. she can beat Olympic medal record
I hope she has a strong comeback. It was a shame to see Gabby have an unsuccessful comeback (I mean, team gold is awesome and I love her but compared to London...) Aly's went very well and I hope Simone's does too.
Simone definetly will have a successful comeback if she stays healthy. Simone is 100x better than Gabby.
it was nice to see so many long ago gymnast.. some of them I don't know..
Simone did it in 3 Years. Compared to the others it took them 10 to 13 years... Can any one beat that..I DON'T THINK SO
Because the ode today sucks and because the competition is weakest ever
Donna Baldwin actually a world ch. was every 2 years and to get into the olympics was at least at 12 in a 100 in the olden days but yes Simone is great
Simone will probbaly be 1st after 10 years.
How the bars fell down at the 4th place😂😂👌🏼
That was at worlds and she won gold in every event
I’d have been laughing so hard if that happened to me
At least it collapsed after she finished her routine. Ludmilla Tourisheva was great! One of my favorite gymnasts of all time.
When she finished on bars she finished the bars!
Flipping Floor Musics OH MY GOD AHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Simone is 5th place and when this video was made, she was only three years into her career. Imagine how many points she will have in five, ten more years 😍
True, but she's not likely to have any more in ten than she will in five. Even if she doesn't retire after Tokyo as she's said, 2024 in Paris is still only five years out.

Id forever remember Khorkina.. I loved watching her. Very elegant for a very tall girl like myself.
Wow. Amazing video. I didn’t even know some of these gymnasts existed
No one ever swung bars like Liukin. One and only.
SVETLANA KHORKINA IS BETTER
@@hectorcarlos9743Aliya was better than Svetlana…. In a multitude of ways. Her bar’s revolutionized the event even more than Khorkina did (let’s face it, NO ONE does her skills anymore whereas Aliya’s combos are still commonplace). She was also far more of a representative of her sport in how she conducted herself, how she treated her competitors and everyone involved and how she reacted to any results. First place? Fantastic! Second place on back? Hey ok, let’s celebrate with the individual(s) who beat me! That is the true measure of a champion.
My faves are Danila, Nadia, Kim zemeskel, Shannon, Elena S, Elena minikina, nastia,.Shawn, Olga K, Svetlana B
We know Simone has surpassed this medal count since this was done but I'd like to see this with more a few more points given to the AA Golds and event finals worth a few more than team golds.
aly has a lot of good ways of controlling her skills like her layouts on floor they are fast but then stops and gets a stick
11:18 her and the girl in the back both put their hands up at the same time lmao
NADIA COMANECI THE BEST OF ALL THE TIMES!!!!!!!!!!💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
I’m still a Nadia Comaneci fan. Sure she’s waaaaay old school; but after seeing the movie of her life, I have great respect for what she went through to get to her 10.0.
It's so weird not to see a lot of the greats of today. Such as Jordyn Wieber, Larisa, and Viktoriya. Yes, I know why it's just weird.
Only so many spots. If five make the team the sixth could be among the best in the world and never even get to compete on the world stage. Different sport my favorite female figure skater was consistently the U.S.'s best for about 10 years but every year someone else was better for a little while then faded away.
My Queen Mustafina!

Yeah i love aliya mustafina!❤

Cathy Rigby got a silver beam medal in 1970 at worlds, not the 1968 Olympics.
They performed on regular floor, not on 10-inch springs as it is done nowadays.
18:50😂😂😂😂😂😂
Mama Ursa i know, it's almost like a mic-drop!
“And the apparatus has collapsed!”
Khorkina is so graceful, with long legs and arms she looks so elegant - pleasure to watch....
Now 2020, Biles has earned more medals than any gymnast
The music selection was sublime.
Olga Korbut n°1 !!!! 💜💜💜
So you are saying that your 5 year old could deserve medals just as much as an elite athlete from the past.
@@bucknut2000nah it’s just that past routines were very basic skill levels
I agree just watching the vaults and floor routines from back in the 40s and 50s I was thinking I was doing those skills when I was in my first and second year in gymnastics. They were basic but what I found interesting was the skills they did on the uneven bars. I've never seen gymnasts preform from those decades. This sport has evolved so much and in that evolution it has definitely gained so much but at the same time it has lost a lot. It has gained more difficult skills on all events but it's lost a lot of the creativity and dance especially on floor, and it's lost the fluidity of uneven bars that it had back in the 70s and 80s when there seemed to be more transition between the high and low bar.
phantastisch der Querschnitt durch die Leistungen und Persönlichkeiten aus 50 Jahren Turnen
it is astounding how the difficulty in the skills has progressed through the years..particularly on the bars and the flooe exersizes.. i think simone has to be number 1 now lol
Vera will be missed
#svetlanakhorkina will always be my favourite, she was talented, graceful, very artistic and never dull ❤❤
I think it's sad how Elena Mukhina was not on this list. She even beat Nadia at one point before tragedy struck.
Would be cool to see the list when only considering individual medals too :) Love this video, btw.
I will make it. Probably in the next week, but it didn't change too much.
+GymnasticFan Thanks! If I did the math right, it does move biles up to number 4 ahead of tourischeva
Dan Myers Yes, and Silivas to 6th, Nadia Comaneci to 7th, Shannon Milller to 9th, Mustafina to 11th and Amanar to 13th, Liukin to 14th. LOL. In the truth it will change a lot of things.
Dominque Dawes will always be my favorite gymnast.
This soooooooo needs to be updated and re-edited... for all of Simone's new medals. 😁
I'm waiting for Tokyo
larisa latynina is a beast
There should be a distinction between new and old world gymnastics. The woman who was 8th never did a back handspring.
Thank you for your hard-work putting this together! My favorites (not just on this list) are Nadia, Olga, Silivas, Elana S, Bogi, Shannon Miller, and Mary Lou as far as just enjoying watching them!
Sad that Yelena mukhina didn't make it😥
Rae Moriarty it's because of her short career.. I think she was active for like 2-3 years only before she became paralized... RIP

I never thought shawn johnson was really that good. Nadia is the best for sure.
Four Olympic medals, three silver and a gold, world AA and floor champion, multiple other medals in a variety of competitions. I’d say your opinion is a little skewed.
Awww there's no elena mukhina😢😭
Nadia Comaneci the perfect gymnast..
Shawn Johnson was only a senior for 5 years and she is my personal favourite gymnast
1950-2000 artistic gymnastics.. 2000-2017 ,,athletic gymnastics,,(doping power..russia,usa,.. no 1)
Věra Čáslavská and Eva Bosáková are my favorites, not just because I'm Czech but especially Věra had a tough end of the career , she got more than 5 olympic golds. As well she wasn't good only in sports - she was also a pretty smart a nice person.
Simone collected all those medals in only 4 years. Wow #Queen
It's called corruption
@@Cyoan79it’s called performance fool. You want corruption, look at the era when the Soviet Union was in control. They hoarded the medals while usurping from those who actually were deserving. Just ask Vera K, who should never have shared a gold medal with anyone else. Today gymnastics is judged by performance and capability- not country of origin. Get real.
This is a wonderful compilation that really shows how much the sport has changed over the years. One girl looked like she was doing her floor routine in the convention hall of a Howard Johnson's. Props to you for finding all that old footage.
the music in the back round should be the transformers gymnastics floor music:)
That was awesome! Thank you! It's wonderful to see how the sport has changed over the years as new technology has been incorporated.
TY for this =)
:D

Did Ludmilla Break The Bars ???
MatthewDoesThings 102 yes she broke the bars at the 1975 European championships
Yes, they collapsed after her dismount. She usually did a full twist on it. That was at Worlds and she won gold in every event.
Undoubtedly, an achievement not even dreamt by Yurchenko, Moukhina among those who don,t appear in the video, or Comaneci, Korbut or Biles. Great changes!!!

After 2018 Worlds Simone would have 74 points. Tied for 3th place and 1 point away from Khorkina's second place... unbelievable
Artistic gymnastics back then, actually used to be artistic.
ThisIsEvan717 It still is.
Really really not.
It still is , just because your preference is grace and balletic doesn't mean AG isn't artistic. Don't blame these girls for the "no artistry" bs , blame the FIG.
ThisIsEvan717 being artistic is not going to get you any points by the rules of CoP. They don't need artistry
The American are so focused on the athletic part while the Europeans are...graceful and beautiful, quite the contrast
very nice video, thank you! ✌️
Atâția oameni frumoși și talentați, succes in viața voastră personală
Even though Ellie Black has 1 Medal at worlds I think she is one of the best with Commonwealth games and Pan ams
Aly Raisman and Simone Biles are #1&2 for me lol Noone can top their difficulty on floor.
My favorites are:
1. Yelena Mukhina
2. Svetlana Khorkina
3. Olga Kurbot
4. Yelena Shushunova
5. Daniela Silivas
I was planning to make a new version this year. Now I need to wait till next year.
@@gymnasticfan9148 TBC, I wasn't criticising you. I look forward to your update.
@@donaldholderdoc2910 I know, sorry if it sounded like this
What caused her career to be short lived, injuries? I was almost expecting to see her in Barcelona the way she was going.
If she has another quad like 2013-2016 she will be the best of all time.
+Kim W she's already the GOAT. The fact she's 5th on this list is testament too that. She's taking time off so she probably won't be at Worlds next year. In 4 years she's won 14 international gold medals.
Bdg1991 It would be amazing to see Simone back in 2018/2019 with some new skills. Not exactly the TTY, but something different.
I'm so surprised that Gabby Douglas wasn't on the list
Update! Please
I'm pretty sure the bars are further apart.)
Nadia is still the queen.
Aliya Mustafina the Queen
