So once again, I figured I would do a time lapse video of my preparatory drawing. I wouldn't normally push it that far, since it's just a preparation for a painting, but I thought it would be better to have the time lapse of the complete drawing. And also, it is always good to practice drawing...
If you are interested in this technique, leave me your questions down there I would be glad to answer it. I also make a few how-to videos once in a while (in french).

What sort of pencil do you use ?

Hi ! It's a simple graphite pencil, I use 2B, HB and 2H and, because it's on a lightly cream paper I also use just a little bit of white pencil to lift up the highlights.

How many hours did you spent drawing that cast? Some say a Bargue mastercopy could last about weeks. I am impressed.

How long did it take you? I'm studying casts now & it's taking me so long! It looks great though, I always struggle with shadows on objects that are all white.

Hi Ciarah ! I don't know how much time this one took, I would say 10 to 15 hours, but I used to take way more time, up to 40 or 50 hours, perfecting my drawings before ! If you try to do this as a learning practice it's better to take all the time you need. It's not about efficiency but about accuracy. If you struggle with shadows try to work more on "keying" your values, i.e. start defining your darkest dark and refer all other values to it as you go around (You can see me doing just that on this drawing). Also try to suint your eyes a lot and compare values to the darkest.

Even more incredible know that this could be done, so beautifully, in a day.

Do you divide the piece in 4 when you start? like in the Bargue method?

    Hello Florent!
I recently stumbled across your channel while trying to learn how to do grisaille... Fantastic job! I will be grateful if you could lower the frame rate or something on this video because it gave me motion sickness. Do let me know if there is a way on youtube I can reduce the speed or something. Great video!

Better yet, is it possible to view or download the entire video and not the time lapse? I love watching you sketch and will be nice to view the whole video despite its length.

Sorry, it' s one of my earliest videos, I only had the possibility the create time lapse at the time. I don't know about youtube on your browser, but there is new function called speed in the settings bar...
