I also appreciated another reader's implication that when that gun was shot 'a zillion times', literally only the camera was hit and they were otherwise fine. And at that, only the lens of the camera, leaving the film itself intact. No wonder they still use wands if that's all a gun can do.

It says a lot that this fanfic is so fucked that a line like that can just completely pass by unchallenged without anyone questioning it.

@@CartoonHangout All I can think is that they just don't know how dye works and they just grabbed literal purple spray paint and just went to town, lol. Maybe there's real product like that, but I really don't trust this writer to know that's a thing.
She definitely used one of those latex-based paints so it turned her hair into a sticky rubber helmet like the spray-on socks from _Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs._
@@dracocrusher Have a sister 10 years younger than me that dyed her using something like spray paint. It’s meant for hair but it’s mostly a temporary coloring. It lasts maybe a couple weeks. Don’t remember. It was like 6-7 years ago. I’m not sure if that existed when I was a teen though, as I think the girl that wrote this waste of brain cells is roughly my age.

I just glanced over in notifications. Saw the My Immortal video. And read the first line on a MY IMMORTAL REACTION COMMENT as "I have a sister 10 years younger than me that died."
For a moment, I was prepared for the biggest weirdest most uncomfortable trauma dump of my life and because it's been a month I had no idea what it'd even be in response to!
I love how slowly throughout the video, Lila slowly descends into further justified literary rage.

A newer generation Eye of Argon. Although, from what I've heard the author of that novella was being serious.
My theory on this is that the author started it out as a troll, but the sheer cringe of the story slowly deteriorated their mind.

I feel like it's a fairly obvious troll? You can't be so consistently wrong if you don't know what right is. Nobody mixes up "virility" and "virginity" or writes that a character can't die from doing a certain thing only to have them die from doing that thing a paragraph later unless they're doing it on purpose.
It was theorized back in the day that started authentic and eventually either their friend raven took over basically being a shadow writer but more self aware, that or someone else (given that it was also theorized raven was never real and the author was just making someone up) took over and this new person knew what they were doing
I will never get over the fact that the author lumped emos, goths, and vamps all into 1 thing long before south park did their episode on it

D&D parties where people get lazy and just refer to each other by race, a la Spoony's old Counter Monkey episodes.
This series is funny enough on its own, but Lila going into it A) without knowing of its reputation and B) clearly having read a _lot_ of HP fanfiction makes this even better.
I almost feel bad for the level of psychic damage she’s going to get from this.
The adorable ear wiggles at the beginning feel like an intentional bit of joy before we see Lila's soul leave her body throughout the video.

Context: This is one of the most infamous pieces of fan fiction of all time. The shocking content and terrible quality of the grammar, prose, story, characters, and writer have captivated people since its writing. The consensus is that it was "trollfic" (fanfiction that is purposefully written to be terrible and shocking to make people angry.) But we don't truly know if this is trollfic because the writer is unidentified. Several people have come forward over the years claiming to be the writer, but they've all either been disproven or offered no evidence. The fact that the true author hasn't come forward to capitalize on the fame of "My Immortal" leads some people to believe that this wasn't actually trollfic and that it was written in earnest.
Also, 18:40 The author's notes are so much worse than the main story because the writer was supposedly receiving help from her friend Raven when writing, but the author's notes are just the writer with no help.
WAIT! I just realized something. At 30:03 she says, "The only way to kill a vampire is with a c-r-o-s-s." but at 15:41 she wears cross earrings. I've read this story like 15+ times, and I've never noticed that before.
One of the best fanfictions of all time. A true masterpiece.
To be honest, the structure seems like a Disney Star Wars movie.

Nobody can convince me that this story wasn’t a joke. There’s no way this was written unintentionally awful. It’s too specific. Thank God we have Internet Historian’s movie version and Lila’s reaction.
The first couple of chapters were pretty realistic, after that the spelling mistakes etc becomes more inconsistent and purposely silly, which is a shame.
10/10 intro, it was great to have the cute ear wiggles to go back to every time the cringe became too much to manage
this fan-fic is like a time capsule to the early to mid 2000s emo/goth scene i remenber ppl used to write stuff and speak like this unnironically on myspace and other sites.
Okay, I think I figured it out. This story was written by a literal child whose keyboard is missing the backspace key. So not only is it impossible for them to fix mistakes, but also every time they change their mind about something in the plot they have to just be like "Oh yeah, Dumbledore shot that man" and then they just run with it because they can't change the line where they actually referenced the thing happening.
Makes 100% perfect sense, lol.
I saw a video of someone reading "Dark Yagami", the Death Note version of My Immortal. Constantly the author writes something, and immediately goes "wait no that can't happen because x, so this happened instead" IN THE TEXT 😂
The guy reading at one point just gave up and stared saying "well, flee running forward" every time it happened.

The animators take their liberties, so some things doesn't match up...like the flying car is suppose to be magical instead of technology.
Also you are literally the only one I ever heard who point out the reason Snape being unusually forgiving towards the two, and consider how long this fanfic is around, it sounds very refreshing.
Considering it's Draco and another Slytherin, it isn't as unusual as if it were the canon Harry Potter in Gryffindor
I rlly doubt Tara genuinely meant for Snape to forgive Draco bc of his own experiences with love, since she said herself in an AN that she never read the books and the latest movies weren't out yet
Most likely, she figured Snape would just forgive Draco easily bc it's how he's characterized in the movies
The absolute best part of the OG video are when it cuts to Sorrow slowly losing his mind at the insanity while IH is just laughing his ass off in the background
When the author doesn’t even get her self-insert Oc’s name right 90% of the time you know you are in for a treat.
Committing to having it be Hagrid instead of Cedric AFTER admitting to messing up the name is up there though.
props to the author for publishing this without proof reading or any semblance of a second look. it may not have been the intent but it became a classic, a masterclass in how NOT to write. your reaction to it is incredible
The wild thing is, if it's not a parody, she did have a friend helping to edit and revise things. And this is still what came out of that. Sweet mother of mercy.

Yeah. It's on the second movie which is still my favourite movie on Wizarding World after The Sorceress Stone (US)/The Philosopher Stone (UK) and The Order of Phoenix.
And ngl tho, the car scene in that movie was fun to watch
I mean, there’s exactly _one_ flying car, and it only exists because Ron’s dad is basically a weeb for non-wizards. It’s an old junker that he wizarded all over until it could fly and apparently also become sapient.
It’s a piece of unique weirdness that features, of memory serves, exactly twice in the entire series and never again.

Whenever you think 'My Immortal' has hit rock bottom, the author always arrived with a massive drill to just keep going

The funniest plot hole for me (I know, there's a lot to pick from) is that the main character casually wears cross earrings, but then apparently that's one of only two ways they can die, and apparently the aversion is so powerful that they won't even speak about it.
Don't forget that she hates the color pink but lines the inside of her coffin with the color

I played a drinking game with this story once. Whenever she says "dark" or "gothic" or anything, take a shot. I _do not_ recommend this game.

Tbf though Wreck-It Ralph, Raya and the Last Dragon, Moana, Frozen 2, Tangled: The Series, and Strange World were a lot of fun or even downright great.

I suggest you watch the rest with subtitles so you can see all of the spelling errors, they are part of the charm.
This was my first introduction to this - I'd only ever heard of the fanic before - and WOW is this an experience that defies words. It simultaneously instilled in me both the urge for unguided, unmitigated violence, and an abundance of confidence in my own writing ability.

I knew instantly your reactions as a mature person would be a fantastic contrast with this epik gpffic storee and Internet Historian's deadpan delivery. This also gave me fond memories of some Scottish blokes called LRM Reading who, uh, did readings of fanfiction, now they stream games and stuff, but back fifteen years ago, they did this entire story chapter by chapter with MST-style commentary that was regularly hilarious, as well as others in its vein, often way more obviously trolls like HP: Helena, HP: I'm Not Okay, Twila: The Girl Who Waz In Luv With A Vampyre, Forbiden Fruit: The Tempation of Edward Cullen... okay yeah you get the idea. Still incredibly funny.
Also, I have to say, I love the visible cringing at every author's note. Oh god, the visual component adds so much brutal cringe somehow, when it's just the words I've been so inoculated to them it barely affects me. But for some reason seeing it really makes the pain come home. Also, it's genuinely amazing seeing somebody react with fresh eyes to something I've treasured for like a decade. "Just make up a new character, bro."
24:00 It wasn't intended in the original story, but I love the idea of Draco, while stark naked, turning to the audience in the middle of the scene and explaining the situation to them as an aside before continuing. Very theatrical.

I thought that I have searched through all of fanfiction net and have found most good well written fic or funny(mostly crack fics) fics on the franchises that I like. But I haven't even encountered this fever dream of a fic, probably because of OOC and OCs I mostly stay away from that . I realised that I haven't really explored the non X overs section of Harry Potter.
I mean, it's not well written at all. But it's weirdly entertaining. Reminds me of crack fics, which are one of my favourites. But I think that Lila is the reason why this became more tolerable and entertaining for me personally. Her reactions and words just adds more to the content.
The main thing I learned about the author having watched this is that they have no idea what it is actually like to be depressed ^^

Edit: the harry potter universe does have flying cars and other vehicles, Ron weasley's family loans him one in the second or third movie and it gets crashed into a living tree and completely destroyed. I also think hagrid may have had a flying motorcycle with a sidecar but I can't remember.

I had the displeasure of reading the original some 7-8 years ago, and understandably the IH version skips over a few storylines that were quite horrible (shocking I know). I thankfully don't remember much of the story anymore, just tidbits, but it truly was god-awful. To this day nobody knows who the author actually is, they're just an enigma. Sarah Z has a video on the meta-history of My Immortal, they make great content so I recommend checking them out. Thank you for the video as always, Lila! Hope you can sit through the other parts of this mess.

There's so much wrong with this fanfiction down to the location of Hogwarts. It's in Scotland, not England. I could go on but the fanfiction is mostly just describing clothes and vampire/goth stereotypes.
Also the phrase "frenching passively" makes me think they were just speaking to each other in french while waving a white flag.
Honestly, that whole scene where she puts on clothes, sees Snap and Loopin chewing to a video of her and puts a towel over her clothes is crazy enough, but then having hagrid come in as a Hogwarts student when he was expelled from Hogwarts during Voldemort's time, and then calling him a pedo despite him having to be around the same age as her is even crazier.
Thank God for Lila commentary. This was rough to watch. I needed both hopium and copium.

I'm trying to remember with this that I was once a teenager myself too (I hope an adult hasn't written this..). And my TTRPG characters at that time were sometimes...dark, broody and edgy. But...

@@joecrazy9896 You can see in the editing that when they describe Hermione's name change to "Hermione smith" on the Driver's licence it's a picture of Bloody Mary (the tomato juice); they also bring up Hermione immediately after Bloody Mary is mentioned, which is clearly no coincidence~

No, this is definitely real. I've read fanfics that are just literal jumbled walls of text. This screams of a twelve year old who has learned too much too soon.
