whenever people say "furries arent generally bad people they are just misunderstood and get a bad rep for no reason" i usually just link them the rainfurrest video
@@vhaelen326 I heard that Rainfurrest was attended by a lot of furries who were already banned from all of the other cons. In that case, it would make sense why it was such a mess. If furries were generally as bad as those ones, we'd be hearing about a lot more shit throwing wolfboys I'd guess.

Wouldn't be surprised if they "forgot" to pay the person responsible for filming and making the DVD so it doesn't exist.

"Who did this?" Tumblr, Tumblr put it together. It ended exactly how it was always destined to be when run by people from that website. Especially back in 2014.
After that "extra time in the ballpit" thing, I'm amazed nobody hunted them down and broke their kneecaps.
It's tumblerites, keyboard warriors, oversensitive people who chicken out and just shout when confronted but unable to start anything by themselves unless it's online. What did you expect?

If i remember correctly, nightvale didn't perform because they weren't paid
This is correct, my understanding was that nightvale was promised by the organizers that they would be paid, their rooms (plural) comped, and they'd receive catering. So they get there and get dicked around on the payment (not an outright no but the organizers basically asked to pay them later) and I think only received 1 room and no catering...
Well the hours tick by and they still haven't been paid, they then have a decision to make... either they go out there to avoid disappointing their fans and very likely are not ever paid OR they cancel... they chose the cancel.
The sad part is we are now pretty sure they event organizers had the money to pay them and could have gotten them catering and an additional room or two (as well as feed their own staff)... but instead pocketed the money.
I had forgotten how the video began with Trigglypuff as the background. Pretty darn fitting given how this all comes back to ‘Tumblr tries, does a bad.’
That convention was a perfect portrayal of the average Tumblr user. Thanks for the video Lila!

Just watching this it's weird to realise that the "free Palistine" dude randomly predicted what that same kind of person would be screaming (on Twitter after the Tumblr migration) years later.
I don't know if you take requests, but I highly recommend watching the Q&As of the videos to get extra info on each topic, especially the Dashcon Q & A,since it clears a lot of the air and also is humorous in a way.

- Tumblr banned all porn 2018, December. after iOS App store banned them for child porn.
- Tumblr usage dropped 70% Now it's basically dead.
- 2018, the year 70% of Tumblr moved to Twitter.... & we thought Twitter was bad before 2018...
It was it was a leftist containment field to keep the weirdos in check when this happened the infected everything.

You forgot the part where TUMBLR nuked whole galleries with no warning, tons of art was lost in the fallout from those too slow or the inactive accounts.
@@madisonbray95 oh right. They did go after all kinds of art. Not just nwsf. It was an artpocalypse. Personally I used elfwood, and then deviant art to post art way back when, but I do recall hearing the cries about Tumbler blasting it's art community.

Canfurance in Ottawa held two small mini cons called paw prints in the snow and paw prints in rain that helped prepare for the larger event. And that had experience behind it.
All events were a success and went pretty much perfectly thanks to proper prep and practice.
Yep, this was proof that the only thing more consistently able to get in the way of Tumblr is Tumblr itself.
The way that I understand scammers is that their small brains have failed to realize that everyone else around them has their own lives, families, etc. To them, other people are just NPCs.
Technically, everyone else other than your own self is an NPC. "Non-playable character" or "non- player character." Unless one of you has unlocked character swapping and didn't share the cheat code with the rest of us.
@@Nyx_2142 In a multiplayer game, you can't just swap to controlling another player's character, but they're still not NPCs because _someone_ is controlling them, even if it's not you.

It wasn't them being generous its just the normal tumblr mob mentality. This "convention" "represents" tumblr, and tumblr is their group so obviously they have to ignore how incredibly incompetent and mismanaged it was to support their group. Normal stuff.

@@leritykay8911 Tumblr, Twitter, and Reddit are unusually effective at homogenising the hivemind and excising the thought-criminals who dissent. That's why a lot of people consider them basically just cults without a proper leader.

You don't need to do a reaction to it, but if you want more answers, he explains a lot over there, like why Nightvale walked, what happened to the event creators afterwards, and the fate of the DVD. Just a little bit of catharsis to put your mind at ease

The first statement isn't wrong though. In fact, it's something nearly every other developed nation has figured out, and their food costs are still pretty much equal to the US (some are cheaper). In fact, tipping in the US is mainly a clever tool to suppress wages and the few that make a killing off it are paraded around to other gullible morons that get tricked into thinking they can be like that too and that a proper wage is silly.
Other things every single other developed nation (and many second and third world countries) have figured out is universal healthcare and affordable/universal education. Healthcare, education, workers rights and benefits, life expectancy (US is lowest its been in 20 years and dropping).

The whole thing being uneventful is the exact reason why such DVD would be entertaining
They would have to try really hard and come up with so much bs to embellish it that it would be funny (like that scene with the guy saying they raised 17k in front of 5 thousand people ready to riot, but like an hour and a half of that)
Dashcon is one of those internet memes that is something of a classic at this point. So many memes, especially regarding the ball pit that may or may not have been peed in. It was such a shitshow, but man did the people on the outside get a good laugh out of it.
It was put together by Tumblr mods, it was always going to be this bad.

I always saw the memes with the ball pit but I never actually knew how it all went down. Just assumed it was all an incredibly poorly planned thing that happened and didn't bother to learn more.

Dashcon on the other hand, was a legit scam. I mean seriously I feel embarrassed and I wasn't even there LOL. It's cringe, the ball pit is enough to tell you how cringe of a convention was.

But yes, Rainfurest was the one where there was legit vandalism from the People who attended the convention. But to be also fair, Internet historian if I remember correctly on the same video said about a theory that there were imposters who hated furries and did these things for sabotage. Regardless, in my opinion Dashcon is a legit huge failure. Also I feel bad for your friend lol

Like, these were the Tumblr people, online "righteous" folks who before and after this went on call out "bad" things on the internet. You just _know_ that people making a crapshoot and pocketing money are the same people who fume online about "evil capitalism".

Taking "Responsibility" is the last thing they wanna do.
Although they all wanna be a leader but didn't had any idea how to be a leader.
To be fair from the other info that came to light, at least one of the three main organizers tried to take responsibility and put in the work. But she apparently got sabotaged by the shear laziness and hostility of the other two. At least that's the story according to several people who were involved in the whole mess.

One thing people should learn from this, Fyre Festival, and others. Make solid plans. Make contingency plans. Hire competent planners. Wasn't there a furry festival that was a dumpster fire? It happens too often. Plan years in advance. Consult lawyers. Jimminy Christmas.

Thanks Lila! Yeah I had a hard time at a recent convention. It was part of my fault for showing up so late but they had only digital monitor event readouts at each room (there were probably 30 rooms in 2 convention buildings) so you had to run from room to room and wait for the monitor to show the schedule. They had no paper handout for the event and no one working for the event knew anything, including where to get your badge. It was horrible. I ended up wasting at least 130 bucks for tickets and parking to be there for 3 hours. Never again.
