I have got exercise-induced asthma, i never knew you had asthma, now that i've seen how much you're biking this is giving me motivation to don't just leave biking becvause of these asthma Thanks
Also have exercise-induced asthma. My doctor recommended exercise like cycling or running a couple times per week and it really helps. Also, he recommended I should not use the inhaler regularly but only when I felt that I needed it. If I try to deliver peak performance, my lung still doesn't perform perfectly, but in lower efforts, I don't have any symptoms anymore. Also, my lung capacity is now almost the same as a healthy person's.
Same exercise induced asthma. Didn't really come on until I was well into my thirties. I found that after racing I just could not get my breath back and my airway would constrict. So I got an inhaler. Puff before and after a big ride / race (I'm an amateur not going for podiums, chill) and I can ride my ride. Sadly the last couple big races (Chequamegon / Lutsen) I've ended up in the medical tent, I'm just not recovering as fast as I use to, but I'm also going to be 50 next year... Trade offs.
I found that the more active I stay, including some serious butt kicking workouts, the less my asthma is an issue. When things slow down in the winter or when recovering from an injury is when my asthma acts up more.
@@lesand5484 My MD says the opposite - to take a therapeutic dose every morning (Salbutamol to open the airways, then the therapeutic dose of Ciclesonide to keep them from getting inflamed throughout the day)

Try reducing all carbs-sugars and inflammatory/salavtory foods like chocolate, dairy and wheat for a week or two and see if it does anything. I had breathing difficulty with exercise my whole life and it got much worse after an illness ~2019. After trying something different like this day 1 my airways were much clearer especially after I sleep. and I finally feel like I can go outside again ;-; PS. it's not cheating... If it lets you have fun nothing else matters.
When my grandmother was in her 70s. She quite smoking after nearly 40 years, started eating better, sleeping more. Now shes in her 80s and she no longer has type 2 diabetes and is the healthy she has ever been in my lifetime. Your never too sick, too hurt, or too old to get better. Killer vid man.
Porter and Seth riding bikes in the wild is why I started watching this channel. Great Video. It's amazing what effects diet can have on the body. I'm sure that's a great feeling. Congratz!
So happy to see seth like this, him being more healthy and enthusiastic is just real nice to see, less sarcastic and more hopeful is something i noticed
2 things: 1: Crested Butte is stunning! I got married, more like eloped lol, in Ouray (I live in the PNW) and Crested Butte was on our drive back to Greeley. Wife and I went for a hike and took some post "ceremony" pictures and WOW beautiful area. I wished we had the chance to stay there longer. 2: Ones diet plays a huge roll in physical health and people have more food sensitivities than they think. My guess is that you have an intolerance that is causing inflammation that is affecting your lungs and potentially other parts of your body. Super happy to see and hear that you are feeling better with the diet change and, to be honest, you are looking a lot healthier and more energized! Keep up the good work dude!!!
I would _assume_ (though I haven't heard him mention it) that Seth checks air quality measurements, & would know if smoke\smog was a major factor for him... Even so, it's such a _noticeable_ factor for me, that it seems hard to seriously discuss exercise without also factoring in the effects of air quality. Diet (vis-a-vis inflammation) is also a _huge_ factor, but the obvious significance of air quality, should never be overlooked. "Fire season" & blown in smoke\smog, both continued _really_ late into the winter, in Colorado this year. I noticed Seth started mentioning his improvement, around the same time I started noticing that the air was not quite as bad. I'm not _at all_ trying to play down diet as a factor; but I'd like to see what numbers Seth comes up with, when comparing his output on Good vs Poor & Severe air quality days?
Can’t beat our scenery here in the PNW though. That’s what I love about Oregon, we have pretty much all the climates. Coast/sand dunes on the left, plenty of forests (my favorite thing) snowy mountains in the middle, and high desert on the right side of the state. You end up taking it for granted when you visit other states that are just flat, and have no forests (cough cough Nebraska😂). We have family friends that came here for a family reunion. I’d always joke that their “mountains” where more like hills compared to ours.🤣
I suffered with asthma in my early teens , completely disappeared when I started riding regularly . I'm 52 now and it's never bothered me since . Love your videos Seth ,Cheers .
Same here. In my mid 40s, and after starting to get regular exercise and watching what I eat, I like to say that I beat asthma 25 years ago. I have done numerous mountain bike rides, multiple road/gravel century rides and even ran a half marathon without even thinking about an inhaler.
Yeah, it's really good to see you posting ride videos. Happy for you that you figured out how to feel better. I crashed today on a totally not challenging section of a familiar trail (no significant harm done), and was feeling kind of bad about it. Seeing you have a similarly dumb wipeout somehow made me feel a little better.
This is my favorite video of Seth's in a VERY long time. The content was awesome, the views were unreal, and riding top notch, even the fall was funny.
I had no idea how much I missed these types of videos from you. Life changes happen that pull you away from making this type of content. My hope is people loved it as much as me.
I am 46 and have been dealing with asthma for awhile, diagnosed when I was around 28. It stopped me from being able to mountain bike. I found the more weight I lose the less issues I have. Also, staying up on making sure I have regular cardio exercise helps a lot. When I ride I no longer need my inhaler on me so long as I consciously control my breathing - long slow breaths. Best of luck to you.
So happy for you Seth! Keep after it! I'm on my own health journey, some of my life long health problems have disappeared too as a result of a better diet. I picked up MTB this year because now exercising is fun and feels good. Videos like this make me grateful to live in Colorado, no shortage of trails to rip or views to see.
That looked like an amazing ride! I love the diversity of your video's, you give us a bit of everything. Thanks for being awesome and I am so happy your asthma isn't a factor anymore!
Mine gets really bad in higher altitudes for sure. It took me forever to adjust to moving to a higher altitude it really took almost a year to feel comfortable. Thanks for talking about it, it helps to know I am not the only one who deals with asthma.
Good for you, Seth! I thought I was having an asthma attack just watching you climb. I had it a long time ago! Congrats!🎉✌️ That place is beautiful!❤ And Eric is a beast and like the coolest friend to have!
I've had athletic induced asthma since I was a kid and I've been on a weight loss journey this year too, this reminded me I haven't had an asthma attack in almost a year as well. I feel your struggle and understand how much it means to not be a slave to the inhaler anymore. Congrats!
I went from West Coast MTB'ing to East Coast MTB'ing and seeing this video makes me happy and sad at the same time. You nail it when I hear you repeat "this isreal MTB'ing" There's nothing like those big BIG West Coast mountains and the single track they offer.
Great to hear about your inhaler I was in a similar situation . Changed my diet like you and have never had to use it for over 20 years now , we love what your doing please keep it up .
If anyone is wondering, it's "Teocalli Ridge Loop Trail". Seth, where did the death canal thing come from? Colorado is like that. I try to ride a couple times a week, just pick something off of the trail app and go. Always something new and amazing. Places like this are where E's can really shine. If you are in a constant state of exploration in places that can be vast and very difficult, you dont always know if turning down any one trail means you are spending the night out there.
Death Canal.... I'm assuming is from Death Pass (the short, poorly-named connector trail from the bottom of Teo) and then Canal is after that, back down to Brush Creek Road.
I remember Crested Butte as a kid.Back in the Sixties, went skiing there many times.Big changes from that long time ago. As always great video Seth, and glad you are taking care of your Health. Not just for you,but your family. To all of the Subscriber, watch your numbers so you to can ride your MTB for a long time.☮
I can relate hard! I have had asthma all my life aswell, not too severe, but in need of daily inhalations and some extra when doing sports. At age 23 i had the feeling that the inhalations didn't do much, so I stopped taking them regularly. After about two weeks I didn't feel the need for them at all, and back then I was a smoker aswell. After getting more fit and stopping the smoking habit I was more clear in the airways than I was as non smoking teenager with inhalations. I'm now soon to be 32, I haven't had the need for inhalations aside from one time when I had a cold during pollen season. Sometimes age and lifestyle changes can do marvellous things!
Dr said I had asthma in first grade. Took an allergy test in my 30's and found 14 foods I ate were causing allergic reactions (and had chronic candida, which is from too much sugar). Carb loading spaghetti made biking much worse (wheat allergy) and I was usually the slowest. Biking is so much easier now that I dont eat those foods
Yeah, rode that back in 1994. Out of every ride I ever did, that is my favorite. Have a picture of me suffering in that section at 4:04 in your video. Happy for you on your health and that your able to suffer out one hell of a climb. 👍 Love your content. Thanks for sharing and keep the rubber side down.
The scenery, the music, and the commentary all had the feel of the Descenders game. I don't get to actually ride a mountain bike anywhere, but I spent a lot of hours on that game and this was like that in real life. It was just so beautiful and makes me want to go get on a bike.
Hey Seth! As another life-long asthmatic, thank you for sharing your story! Most of the time the only things you hear about asthma is from big pharma about another drug to take. Like you I've found that mountain biking has been a ticket to freedom from my asthma. Awesome video! Thanks for the positive message.
Seth, it must be a wonderful to give such motivation to all these people… Just through sharing your passion. I am yet another one I’ve bought my mountain bike because of these videos I’ve gotten back out because of these videos coming from the automotive world I have another cheaper hobby that’s slightly healthier. Linus Tech Tips, MWTB, MKB, Cletus, so so many more… and all the educational people out there. They’ve all helped me through recent addiction/legal troubles, rehab (up there with the worst experiences of my life). 2020s sucked for me. I hope the rest of the 20s keep this trend up.
I've had asthma since I was a baby. I used to have to use my inhaler on every bike ride I went on. But I discovered that the more I rode my bike and the more climbing I did, the asthma attacks got less and less, and I haven't had to use my inhaler in probably a year or so. I'm super glad you're doing well Seth and going on these awesome bike rides in these awesome locations!
Did the 401 earlier this year and despite catching a little hail storm on the climb it was still incredible. The elevation is rough even for someone in Denver but take your time and it's 100% worth the trip. Crested Butte is just stunning.
Good one. For those interested in seeing Crested Butte with colors like that, the peak of color is usually around the first week of October. In summer it will be pretty green there, with wildflowers peaking about the third week of July.
Great Seth! You have beaten you're asthma for good! One big leap to your health and i am feeling happy for you. Keep it up. I think you can officially say goodbye to the inhaler.
This video reminds me of some riding back when I lived in Idaho when I was a teenager, vs the more man made, shorter, techy loops we have in MN these days. I definitely miss those longer trails with a variety of terrain. I definitely remember being chased off a.mountain by weather a couple of times too! Thanks for the awesome vid.
Amazing what proper diet does for our bodies! I suffered with Ulcerative Colitis for 30 years until I learned how to control it with diet and supplements.
Seth, I left a comment about this on another of your videos. Long post shortened, I figured out my asthma was caused by a deficiency in magnesium. Magnesium, calcium, and potassium perform a delicate balancing act in the body. Low magnesium can mimick asthma. I suspect your asthma may be due to insufficient magnesium since reducing dairy (and, thus, calcium) helped you. I recommend trying magnesium supplements to see if it further improves your symptoms.
Love these kinds of rides. natural trails and just njoying the scene. As someone who also has asthma, Riding and sports have vastly improved my ability to njoy life and is why i cant stop riding
Congrats on the epic ride! What i noticed when riding The Whole Enchalada in Utah...you start to gain strength when coming back down from the oxygen returning but also battling fatigue at the same time 😅
Awesome! A great video proving again that when you fuel your body with the right food and water it will regulate itself to run properly! Keep on keeping on, it only gets better! Thanks for the video!
I think its wonderful that you have your body in a good spot right now. Not having to inhale steroids to breathe is great! But the fact that you know how to do that could also be a lifesaver at some point down the road.
You are so right. Crested Butte is a gem. We moved to La Plata County about four years ago. Durango is a cycling, mountain biking town. I am putting in a campground on our property. Fun times!
I'm sure someone else said this, but I haven't read all the comments....My wife and I went to a plant based diet to help with her asthma too and she is completely off her previous 5 medications and only uses a rescue inhaler from time to time. Asthma is all about inflammation in the lungs and eating more plants helps reduce that inflammation....stoked you're doing so well...Keep it up!
So glad your asthma is getting better! Best wishes for the future! And boy oh boy, I didn't expect such a forest at that altitude. In my place (western Alps) you are lucky to get some lichens!
My asthma is at its best when I get good diet, good exercise, and good sleep. And of course it's at its worst when I don't get those things. As a fellow asthmatic, good on you for not needing the inhaler! Obviously keep it around because if you fall out of shape you'll probably need it again.
Awesome to see and hear Seth i was born a chronic asthmatic and dealt with absolutely horrible asthma up until I was around 13 and it somehow just vanished. I have been asthma-free ever since and I'm 33 now
Been to Crested Bute once before around 10 years ago. We went during the wild flower season (end of July). It was the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen. We hiked all over. Would love to do the bike trails next time. The family is talking about going back next summer. Thanks for the great video!
I also lived with asthma til I was about 30 and when I realized that it had gone away it was like someone lifted a 200 pound weight off my chest (literally and figuratively). Congrats Seth! I feel your joy!
Pretty amazing! You come from a mountain bike mecca - North Carolina - so it amazes me to hear you speak so highly of this, as though you came from the flatlands.
So Epic Seth! Thanks for sharing. My first destination MTB adventure is Bentonville which is inspired by the video you posted about your trip there a couple years back. Cant wait.
Now this is the kind of video I missed about Berm Peak.
I miss the backyard trail-building the most. And the video where they milled downed logs
Me too
I loved the bike-bobsled video with Eric all those years ago, and the Arizona in the dark and while lines videos
Would kill for more berm peak build videos 😔

Love the actual Mtb riding video. Made me reminisce about my trip to Vermont back in June where I had the best riding of my life.
Did the 401 earlier this year and despite catching a little hail storm on the climb it was still incredible. The elevation is rough even for someone in Denver but take your time and it's 100% worth the trip. Crested Butte is just stunning.
OG Trail Riding -- truly amazing and fun to see again... legit
CB is the most beautiful place in CO. I will never forget it! Holds a special place in my heart!
Wow finally a MTB ride video like the ole days, Seth congrats on your fitness and lifestyle change. More of these videos please. Killer views
Hey seth, i dont know how much effort a video like this takes, but i really liked it!
Went to college in Gunnison. So pumped you got to experience the magic of CB! Such a beautiful town and outdoor playground!
New Berm peak video!!!!!
Love these kinds of rides. natural trails and just njoying the scene. As someone who also has asthma, Riding and sports have vastly improved my ability to njoy life and is why i cant stop riding
Congrats on the epic ride! What i noticed when riding The Whole Enchalada in Utah...you start to gain strength when coming back down from the oxygen returning but also battling fatigue at the same time 😅
Congratulations on 500 videos 🎉🎉🎉
Killer video. beautiful scenery, spinning and grinning. glad the asthma has chilled out. Lets hear it for us 40ish guys staying in great shape!
I find my asthma clears up when I loose the timber, eat well and work out. Well-done on the mid life health kick Seth. I'm right there with ya
Crested Butte is my #1, all time favorite town in Colorado. Bar none. The biking and skiing are both just silly good and the town is incredible.
You look and sound 5-10 years younger since you started focusing on your health. Keep it up!! Honestly we all need to take this seriously.
Funny what a commitment to simple lifestyle changes does to a body. Awesome job, Seth!
Dude, epic video. As a fellow person who grew out of Asthma, welcome to the club.
Awesome! A great video proving again that when you fuel your body with the right food and water it will regulate itself to run properly! Keep on keeping on, it only gets better! Thanks for the video!
I don’t even own a bike, yet am subscribed to and watch every episode.. Seth is a legend!
Just a genuine question are you planning on getting one? If so what are you going to get a hard tail full suspension?
Stunning scenery! Good on you Seth for not needing your inhaler! Acclimation is everyone’s personal battle and you won!!
Man that’s so awesome your asthma is so much better. Great ride, so pretty there!
So glad your asthma is getting better! Best wishes for the future!
And boy oh boy, I didn't expect such a forest at that altitude. In my place (western Alps) you are lucky to get some lichens!
seth? on a mountain bike? FINALLY
Great to see you can skip the inhaler, especially on Teo, that climb is no joke. Cool to see one of my favorite local trails make it on the channel!
My asthma is at its best when I get good diet, good exercise, and good sleep. And of course it's at its worst when I don't get those things. As a fellow asthmatic, good on you for not needing the inhaler! Obviously keep it around because if you fall out of shape you'll probably need it again.
Good to see you and Porter shredding again. That ride was epic.
Congratulations on no flare ups of your asthma ! That's life changing and it must feel so good!!
Stunning trails pal! So happy for you Seth! Let your asthma far away in the rear view… more trail like this in three, two… 🙌🏻
its refreshing seeing some riding again! motivates me to get out on the trails
Seth I was ill for 20 days and you were my form of entertainment love your vids
Awesome to see and hear Seth i was born a chronic asthmatic and dealt with absolutely horrible asthma up until I was around 13 and it somehow just vanished. I have been asthma-free ever since and I'm 33 now
So awesome that your health is improving! 🎉congratulations
One of Seth’s best videos! Makes me want to get out and ride. Cheers.
heck yea! always great to see people boast/support being healthy! love the video...and i usually fast forward riding parts.
Been to Crested Bute once before around 10 years ago. We went during the wild flower season (end of July). It was the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen. We hiked all over. Would love to do the bike trails next time. The family is talking about going back next summer. Thanks for the great video!
loving this POV bike riding shots. feels like im riding it. really inspiring me to take one up
I also lived with asthma til I was about 30 and when I realized that it had gone away it was like someone lifted a 200 pound weight off my chest (literally and figuratively).
Congrats Seth! I feel your joy!
Great to see a riding vid again, like the good old days on the channel. 😁
Cant wait.
It's always a special day riding in the Gunnison Valley! It never gets old!
Loving your travel content, been missing it for last year or so, keep it up!
Nice work man! Good work on getting healthy and taking control of your health!
That's one of the most beautiful places to ride I've ever seen, great video.
Fantastic video. Great riding. Incredible views. Awesome trails. Good spirits. 10/10
3:57 lol that’s me most rides😂
