First off, you are all WAY TOO KIND! I truly was worried about this one being too long and I have to say, your comments just made my day. I'm SO happy that y'all are enjoying the VLOGs :) Mike J www.mikeslessons.com
Loved the Video... I was actually, during the driving bit, I moved my mouse on the screen "aw man... not even 15 minutes..." personally, honestly I could easily watch and listen to you and whoever you talk to geek out over drums for 15-20 mins, that would be my personal sweet spot. if the conversation or the drums are super rare and exciting, easily 30 minutes. But that is probably unrealistic :D either way, as long as they dont get shorter I am super happy for every episode you put out. Much Love!
Bill Detamore and the team did Rogers proud with the reissue for sure. I own many original 60s Dynasonic snare drums and these reissued drums hold right up to the reputation. Beautiful drum Mike
Thanks so much Edward, I just really want people to see and support these shops. They are special beyond belief and if I can help them in any way then that's what I'm gonna do!
Agree with most other commenters - not too long at all. You could easily slip in another few minutes of maybe testing a couple different drums, but also discussing why they sound different. I'm getting back into drumming after 20 years off (learning curve!), and things have changed a lot since the '90s - anything on shells, size, depth, whatever. You do it with such joy, I could watch all day!
Can't express how happy I am to see this series continue. Btw I got my Brooklyn standard last week. it is all I will ever need. You were definitely right on the internal muffler being perfect for the worship context. finally no moon gels haha. Thank you for everything you do. Looking to record a video in all of tunings and muffling levels sometime. Much Love Professor.
A big thanks to your wife for not killing you for buying two snare drums! Can't wait to hear them on an upcoming vid! VLOG felt like it was over in just a few minutes. Definitely can be longer especially with a search and score like you had with this one! Keep up the great work Mike!
I own a tama 13x7 and it's amazing, great crack and really beefy! Also this was definitely not too long, it could be 10 minutes longer and it'd be no problem!
This was defenetely better than the last one but far from being too long. I find it fascinating to hear you and the shop owners talk about snare drums so I'm impatiently waiting for ep 3!!
Still not too long! I watched it twice in a row and then went back and watched the first one again! I miss going to my local music store and looking around all day and these vlogs make me feel like I'm there. Also that green drum sounds killer!
Too long? How about not long enough! I love this stuff. Collectable, used and vintage drums are so fun to explore. It's nothing like the vintage guitar market where boutique shops overprice stuff and you pay an absolute fortune for vintage gear. Vintage guitars are almost unattainable right? But not vintage drums! Old drums are fairly affordable and and if you know what you like you can get quite a nice little collection started.
honestly too short. could watch a regular show of this. SO cool. drives home the mantra you have about snare drums. we all get to see and experience drums we normally don't have access to!
Darren is the greatest man ,glad you did it clinic last year with them hopefully you come back when this pandemic is over. Take care brother. Ryan glick
Mike, this was perfect man! You absolutely nailed it! Timing, A+. Information, A+. Entertainment factor A+. I would watch these every week if you did them. Love it!
This was definitely not too long. I really enjoyed it. It’s the series I never knew I needed and it’s such a great concept. Please keep them coming! P.S you made that Stage Custom Hip kit sound awesome and now I want one.
I feel called out, because I 1000% saw the exact TAMA SLP Snare at a Skip's years ago and it became my first non-stock snare drum. :) I'd do it again though - great little thing. Another awesome Vlog - Loving these Mike! Some good knowledge mixed with cool personalities and supporting wonderful shops across CA! Also, you could easily double the length of these - that 15min FLEW by.
Wow!! Been watching, listening, learning sooooo much from your videos. Thank you for sharing your gift with us. Never disappointed. I'm a drummer too and at 60 , ready to commit to my journey and you've opened that door to the band room again.
Do more of these, I really APPRECIATE this. Where I live, we don't have this kind of drum shop. Also, this is a very fresh angle on "drum content". Keep it going Mike!
Loved this vlog and I'm really looking forward listening to these snare drums... especially the Rogers. Can't wait for more vlogs!! P.S 15-20 minutes are great
Super cool video!!! Very tasty playing. Dubs is my home away from home. Too much cool stuff!! Darin and his staff are sweet hearts. He loves to wheel and deal. Viva la dubs.
I have always been fascinated with how pro's evaluate gear. Not in a "commercial" fashion but honest assessment at the shop. This is a great vehicle to provide the aspiring and enthusiasts a glimpse at what you look for and give exposure to the small business shops. I was surprised you didn't mention Roy Burns and Rogers a bit more. Maybe a future vlog. :) Keep them coming Mike. In the days of online shopping I miss the art of shopping for my sound in person.
Thats it? Its over already? Waaaay to short! Hahahaa! Would love to hear those 2 babies you got on the next ep. Keep it up. Stay safe! Sending love and back beats from the Philippines 🇵🇭!
This is the perfect length or a video like this. I missed the first one, I'll go back and check it out. I'm a gear head with forty snares, fifteen of which are USA Gretsch. I also have a good many vintage snares, I'm always looking for cool new (and old) "stuff". I subscribed, ad I'll let my drum geek buddies know about this as well.
"You've gotta admit, we might have stretched a bit" Ending on a solid rhyme. Stretch episode excused. In all seriousness - this is wonderful. Thanks for letting us tag along! Lengthy episodes are nice!
I'm a little late to the party but I think this was the perfect length of time. Not to long and not to short. Can't wait to hear you play the snare drums at your home studio! 🥁❤
I said it on the last one and I'll say it again. You could release the raw footage and I know I'd watch it! You even said it on the Podcast, this is TV now so for me this is the entertainment. 10-15 minutes is just an absolute tease! We need the "Mike's Roadshow of California Drum Shops" documentary! Great content as always Mike, much appreciated!
@@mikeslessons Knowing you Mike, it was probably torture even getting it down to 14 minutes! It's so top notch. That's why you just need to release that raw footage, no work necessary! ;)
I want more! I can't wait to get the clips of that dynasonic. Please do a triple snare solo! haha. would be awesome! Thanks for all you do! Truly inspirational!
This was perfect man! I could do with longer episodes, but I know the work that goes into it. Nice touch with the 911 too. Giving it the car-vlog-vibe 😎.
Not long enough lol I got the notification while I was at work listening to Mike n Eddy I watched it while painting a door frame lol. That snare sounded great curious to hear about the Rogers I tapped on one at a local store and wow sounded amazing anyway I love these videos and seriously I could watch more. Maybe even watching you swap out heads and tuning up look at the shells in detail anyway can’t wait for the next one
Just listened to your podcast episode where you mentioned this vlog and came to check it out... now I want to buy drums, start a drum store and learn to vlog. Also, this video could have been twice as long and I still would have loved every minute! So keen to check out more of your vlogs.
I was going to drive down to Dubs (30 minutes away from me) so that I can meet you Mike, but you didn’t go on a weekend. :( Plus, I would of liked to check out the store. I understand that Dubs Drum Basement is a great store! Thanks for the video! Now I have to visit the store! Thank you for your knowledge! You have found what you are meant to do. :)
I absolutely love this vlogs! I wish I had a Drum Shop nearby but if I did, i'd probably buy something there every week - lol. You know how it is ;-) Much love and greetings from Germany
Will do my friend! And that wasn't a Tama comment, that was a Tama SLP comment, and I meant it as a massive compliment. It's a 350.00 snare that could easily pass as a 850.00 snare. Those things (and the SLP kits) are badass!
@@mikeslessons my bad and great point!! I have an SLP and it's pretty awesome for the pricetag. You had two super sweet scores this trip... Looking forward to the next one!! 🥁
@@tonywallstreet I totally get how it sounded like I was making fun of it but trust me, that was not my intention. I just remember when the KIA Optima first came out I kept mistaking it for a new Jaguar or Aston Martin, lol.
@@mikeslessons hahaha I can totally see that and I actually remember that time when the Kia Optima came out and at quick glace would mistaken for a Jaguar or Aston Martin. Little sneaky stylish with an affordable pricetag. Again great point! 😂
Also I think you could give a bit more details about what make choose this snare drum in particular, what makes it different from the one you already have, because that couldd be very interesting for people like me who know only little about snare drums

Can’t wait for ep.3 honestly one of my biggest inspirations to play is seeing your passion for the art
Not even close to being too long. Should have included more, like the fight with Amber when you brought that snare home, that would be priceless!
