I'm amazed no one mentioned Steve Dodd , he was a good mate to my brother and I back in the 80's . What a story teller , we'd sit there in the Brookvale hotel having a beer and he would tell us stories ( we were grown men by the way ) that would bring a tear to your eye but had happy endings , he was an incredible human being . A lot of older people would remember the boomerang thrower at half time at Brooky oval when Manly played at home . He told us about The Chant of Billy Blacksmith when the young girl opened the door he said here I am a black fella holding an axe with blood all over it staring at this little white girl , he said she had nightmares for a week . It's just hilarious Paul had him in this sketch standing there in his running shoes . Steve passed away about 10 yrs ago , and he still is the kindest bloke I've ever met . He was a very under rated actor . R.I.P Steve Dodd .
For those who didn’t live in Australia at the time, Rolf used to do ads for British Paints ( hence the strumming on the paint can, which was his signature sign off on the commercials.). Hoges in the pot of brass was channeling Tommy Hanlon Jnr, an American who seemed to be ill at ease compering the show ( hoges impersonation is pretty much spot on). As a schoolboy at the time, Delvene Delaney ( on left side of the balance act) was everyone’s schoolboy dream. She still is! 😀
Rolf's tag line was: "Trust British Paints, Sure Can!" Or as we kids used to say (sometimes with a slightly different vowel in the lust word: "Trust British Paints, Sure Can't"
Hoges has that type of face that can imitate lots of celebrities. He does a great job doing Tommy Hanlon Jr's mannerisms. Mike McColl-Jones who played Bernard King was sensational.
Greetings From Iceland, my god man, i always loved Crocodile Dundee. this is just a new world for me, did not know he was in comedy before. this is fkn hilarious btw

This is the TV I grew up with. Bernard King (pot of brass judge) was such a pos, he would say things to the contestants like, "I never wear a tie that cost less than a hundred dollars (500.00 current day) which is more than most of you would earn in a month' No one ever liked him except for other social climbers. Nice lil blast from the past thanks.
If you mean Dame Edna Everage, no - that's Marion Edward (sometimes credited as Marion Edwards). She is known for her appearances in Prisoner: Cell Block H, A Country Practice, Division 4, and Homicide. She passed away in 2007, aged 72.

Ahh yes, the heady days when Australian comedy meant unfunny and boring shite like this every Saturday night on the TV. I remember NOT laughing at this when it was new in the 1970's too....

Paul Hogan, Australia National's treasure.
Arr the Good Old Days of Comedy. Thank you Paul Hogan and Gang. So Politically Incorrect. 😂❤
This is bloody marvelous 😂
Seems like Rolf's third leg got him in to a lot of trouble...
Yeah you could say that.
HA HA HA HA HA HA!

Delvene was certainly attractive then and talented (she still has it). Strop is a lucky man being married to her.
Hoges big break was on Tommy Hanlon's POT OF GOLD.
Rolf's tag line was:
"Trust British Paints,
Sure Can!"
Or as we kids used to say (sometimes with a slightly different vowel in the lust word:

And Bernard "King of the Poofs" as he was known back then!

Absolute classic

Pretty big wasn't it
I loved growing up to Hogs! Strop was my favourite
Each 2 their own I prefer Hoges & Strop
Strop is battling dementia... bloody sad 😔
@@419Koof Delvene looks good too.
@@lasagnegurl167 John Cornell aka Strop sadly passed away in July, 2021. R.I.P.
Geez, who wouldn't want a face full of Delvine Delaney? mmmmm
Strop definitely would. She's been married to him for just over 40 years.
Delvene Delaney. Damn.
Even back then they saw through Rolf.
they were onto Rolf even back then
" Tan me hide when i`m died Clyde"....hahahaha
those were the days.
Haha Classic and no PC here
Brilliant stuff
Ha. He would really be shakin his head if really knew what old Rolfey was up to back then.
Quite a few teenagers of the seventies wouldn't of minded act fiving with delvine Delaney
Not letting you go now Rolf ey
He started as a painter on the Sydney Harbour Bridge and did a interview with the ABC, the rest is history
he was a rigger thats why he wore the sleeveless striped shirt, shorts, footy socks and workboots in his tv show.
We all now know what Rolf did with that third leg and why he liked to blow on his digeradoo.
8:00 - bless
Now that is humour.
Now we know what Rolf got up to
Interestingly, Rolf passed away last month (May 10, 2023).
No young girls were injured during this episode
It's a shame Hoge's acting career never went far
He's doing fine thanks to residuals from his main hits in 86 and 88.

I wonder how many remember Tommy Hanlon Junior? He did have that hesitant way to talking. Ah, that was a long time ago.
I remember the 'Pot of Gold' player card which was included in Woman's Day magazine (that my mother always bought) back then.
He chopped my head off
One night I was the kid called to stick his head in the guillotine , a magic bit that was part of a Silvers Circus silvers show Tommy was MCing in the bush
The Millennials have no respect for the classic Australian comedies.
They have no idea what real comedy is
4:50
If only.
Rolf did more than blow on a didgeridoo!
The Good old day's ❤
Gulli Gulli was the MAN

The guy on the left in the "Pot 'o Gold" sketch ..... Did he play the Centauri Regent in Babylon 5 ?
No it's not him, I thought at first it was him too. Oh shit 4yrs ago sorry only started looking up Paul's stuff today. On a wee nostalgia trip haha
@@iainaitken4472 No worries . Thanks for the information anyways .

So this is the Australian version of Saturday night live?
Close, I think it's more like the aussie version of the Benny Hill show
Shame Rolf couldn't tie his Kangaroo down. So fucking pissed with him all memories of animal hospital ruined o_O
Do you have Hoges doing Sargent Donga and THE GUT?
‘Sack Kerr’... they should’ve 🤦🏼♀️
His third leg isn’t much good now
Was this really Bernard King?
The _real_ Bernard King did not feature in the "Pot of Brass" sketch. Someone might know who the actor is.
@@RoughJustice2k18 I'd like to know who the actor is, if we've since found out...

7.00 minutes. This must be where Stewie Griffin comes from, not Rex Harrison where Seth says.
Watching this I realise in 2019 comedy is dead. Too afraid some snowflake will be offended.
Really! You’ve not seen or heard anything funny this year? Sounds like some has a stick up their arse
That’s why I just love to trigger them every opportunity I get…….
Woke comedy is absolute rubbish.
