  • In this video, I am going to show you how easily you can prepare SHIRATAKI noodles with garlic butter sauce. Its easy to cook and preparation time is less than 15 min.
Though I used many veggies in this recipe, you can completely skip it as some people wont like to add veggies as they might prefer to keep this recipe 100% ketogenic. Either way, its a delicious recipe so please give it a try and share your experience.

Maybe low carb, but pushing the keto envelope with the corn, peas, carrots and red onions. It would be great with green onions, cilantro and mushrooms, though, and it's begging for shrimp and maybe crushed red pepper (instead of mushrooms.)

I notice that a lot of "keto cooks" on UA-cam tend to use red onions instead of yellow onions or scallions, both which have far less carbs than red onions. Honestly, I think a lot of people just assume all onions have the same carb count, which is completely incorrect. One cup of yellow onions have 7 less grams of carbs than red onions do -- 6 net grams vs. 13 net grams found in red onions. The recipe this person uses here is anything but keto friendly. I'd say this recipe has well over 20g of carbs in it, which is fine if this is the only thing you eat all day. In fact, there are nearly 26 grams of carbs in this dish with just the onions alone, let alone factoring in all those vegetables. And that corn. Goodness, that's at least another 12g of carbs right there.

@@NexusNine Yeah, I don’t know how this person is in ketosis.

    • @NexusNine
      @NexusNine 2 роки тому +2

@@CarbageMan I highly doubt they are in ketosis as well. I really think all references to this being keto friendly should be removed from the title of the video and description. It's kind of like this person thought that adding shirataki noodles to the dish just somehow made it keto friendly.
I use shirataki noodles all the time. I use them in stir fries, ramen, spaghetti, alfredo, lol mien, and pretty much everything pasta based. I don't think I've ever made a pasta dish with these noodles that's more than 9 to 12 net grams of carbs for a serving. For a typical meal similar to the one made in this video, I would use use 1 cup of mushrooms (2 net carbs), 1 cup of tomatoes (4 net carbs), 1 cup of yellow onions or scallions (6 net carbs), and sometimes 1/2 cup of green and red peppers (5 net carbs added together). If I use vegetables, I use greens and low starch vegetables like spinach (less than one net gram of carbs per cup) or broccoli (3 net carbs per cup) or cabbage leaves (2 net carbs per cup) instead of carrots, peas, or corn. This makes two decent sized servings, so I would be consuming half the carbs in the dish, which including the shirataki noodles (3 net carbs per serving), is about 8 to 12 net carbs to consume one serving of my noodle dish depending on if I use the red and green peppers, and what vegetables I use, if any. This gets paired with chicken thighs/wings/breasts, a pork chop, or steak (0 carbs), and I may add sugar free BBQ sauce (2 net carbs). What I end up with is a full, pretty large meal that tops out at 14 net carbs for a serving at most, which again, is at the higher end of the estimate. And if I want desert, I pair my meal with a cup of homemade low carb ice cream that has between 0 to 4 net carbs depending on the flavor. Or a low carb brownie with 2 net grams of carbs. Or a cup of low carb chocolate moose topped with 0 carbs whipped topping that's just 1 net carb. So a typical pasta meal with a desert for me is usually between 11 to 18 net carbs, but more often then not is under 15g. I consume, in most days, about 25 to 30g of net carbs a day, though I admit that I am not strictly keto. So a meal and dessert that, at most, is 18 net carbs (again, usually less) means I can still enjoy a low carb lunch or snack if I want to. I don't often eat breakfast.
It's nuts. I actually decided to calculate this person's recipe a bit more closely, and this garlic bowl has over 50g of carbs in it. Even at half the portion, that's still consuming 25g of carbs or more in just one meal. Eat the whole bowl, and forget about it, you're well past keto friendly. I literally just showed that I can make a dish similar to this dish, add a meat, and have a desert at just a fraction of the amount of carbs found in just one bowl of this person's "keto friendly" garlic noodles. On top of that, I have room to eat a lunch or snack if I desire.

@@NexusNine There is a slight argument that shirataki noodles could be good for keto, because of the potential improvement in gut health, but I wouldn't die on that hill or sell it that way.
It sounds like you're conscious of the amount of carbs you're getting, so that's good, in association with knowing how many is right for you. I've found that my carbs in a single meal can go up quite a bit if I am exercising a lot at the time, particularly before and soon after eating.

@@CarbageMan depends on the brand of shirataki noodles. Some brands are purely from the konjac root while others are made from konjac with added tofu. Pure konjac root does offer dietary fibers, which is one of the only carbs a diabetic can eat. The konjac/tofu hybrid loses the fibers. It's really just a 1 net gram of carbs vs. a 3 net grams of carbs decision. Both kinds have near 0 calories though.
I don't really look at shirataki noodles for their nutritional benefits, I look at shirataki noodles more as just a suitable low carb, low calorie replacement for traditional high carb, high calorie noodles when I want a pasta dish. When I do look for a more nutritional value from a pasta dish, then I'll probably choose zucchini noodles instead.
For me, I'm not strictly keto. At least not in the sense that "real" keto dieters like to think. I'm on what's often referred to as dirty keto. I don't know if you know what that means, but basically it just means that I don't shy away from processed foods or artificial sweeteners if I desire to have something of that nature. Most of what I eat is natural, as they say, but if I want a diet soda or use packaged deli meat, I don't deny myself those things.
I do, however, as you see, keep a very close eye on carb count. That has been instrumental in bringing my blood sugar levels down to a non-diabetic range. I get my energy from protein and healthy fats.

I'm sure this works for all those keto people out there however, I am not one of them. It looks delicious though. I have been doing calories in versus calories out for over 40 years and it works for me. I cook shirataki noodles too, just without all the unnecessary added Calories. Thank you for the video though.

Um you might want to edit your description of this video. Eating some vegetables IS 100% ketogenic as long as your daily carb count stays under a certain level. Also my understanding is that shirataki noodles are actually made from Konjac root, so just as much a plant based food as vegetables. But other than that, thanks for the video.

Nor are red onions, carrots, or corn keto friendly. This dish is easily more than 40g of carbs. He has about 26g of carbs with the onions alone. Then another 20g of carbs with the peas. Haven't even factored in the vegetables and the dish is at 46g of carbs.

None of this is keto friendly. By my calculations, your dish has over 40g of carbs, possibly even 50g.
    And also...
Every "keto friendly" video I see that uses onions in their recipes use red or purple onions instead of yellow onions. One cup of red onions have nearly 13 net grams of carbs vs. yellow onions that have only 6 net grams of carbs. Why would you add an additional 7 grams of unnecessary carbs to this dish when you don't have to? A lot of "keto cooks" seem to think all onions have the same amount of carbs, which is totally incorrect.
Either you're new to low carb cooking or you don't really look at the ingredients you're using. I'm on a low carb diet, not even as strict as Keto, and there is NO WAY I would ever use this recipe. Other than the shirataki noodles, you used mostly high carb ingredients.
