Gibson made it for Ace to match his Budokan Les Paul. Incidentally Ace is a huge Page fan and British Invasion fan in general. I'm sure he was honored to have a custom built double neck like Page.
I'm pretty sure this was the first time he played one on stage, too. This is of course the first night of the Reunion tour (not counting the warm-up show in Irvine, which did not include this song), and I believe they made that guitar specifically to be used on this song. Quite a moment in "Kisstory," and gladly they nailed that intro. The only thing I dislike is Paul doing the "it's going to get rough" thing that he's always done with this song.
This reunion tour was the best... Original band members, Ace spectacular on lead, Paul's vocals superb, Gene great on bass & Peter hitting those classic fills... This should of been the farewell tour at their peak & leaving a remarkable legacy. Instead we got to watch old Wicked Lester go through the motions with 2 hired goons & leave fans disappointed...
@@psychedelicspiderproductio201 I agree 100%. I saw them for all 3 tours, and figured 2000 was going to be it---which it was, for all practical purposes. They made return trips here (Omaha, NE) after that, including "End Of The Road", and I had no desire to go. I saw the last of the real Kiss, the way I want to remember them.
I used to go see Ace and his band play the end of the 80s early 90s in Detroit bars for $12-$15. Then I went and saw KISS for around $100 just to hear the difference. In those days Ace sounded better and still did a bunch of KISS tunes
Saw these guys 3 times in the 70's. Twice at MSG and once at the Spectrum. The Love Gun tour was off the charts. Best concert I ever saw visually. When Ace shot a flare out of the guitar he was playing towards his other guitar that was spinning in the air, and that guitar blew up, I lost it.
Since 1974, I was fortunate to see the band 13 times, all with the original cast and all in Michigan. Cobo (multiple times in front row without a barrier including the show with the Alive album sign), Olympia (multiples), Rose Center (Jan '76 first row right in front of Ace), Flint IMA (with Rush), Saginaw Civic Center
Saw them in Vegas in 2000 for the "Farewell" tour, all 4 original members. I hadn't thought about KISS in YEARS at that point. A work buddy had an extra ticket for the show at Mandalay Bay Events Center. From the second the band hit the stage until the last note of the final song, 15,000 plus were on their feet and absolutely losing their minds the entire time. I was one of them and it's one of the greatest memories of my lifetime and easily the best concert I've ever seen and I saw Ozzy with Randy, twice. EPIC.
jealous, and from Peter's book, he was killing himself, by staying in shape and avoiding the daily Paul and Gene show in hotel lobby's and dining rooms
I saw them in '77, and then a couple months after this show in DC. The electricity in the air was amazing. This was the original KISS!! I don't think any of the in-fighting had started yet, and it looked like they were having a great time. I feel so lucky to have seen that reunion tour.
That's great! My Mom came into my room when I was 17 and looked at a copy of Slayer's South of Heaven sitting on my desk. She picked it up, saw the artwork and title, and subsequently said "I don't even want to know.". She rolled her eyes, set the album back on my desk, and walked out in disgust. I'll never forget it.
At the reunion show.....slept outside all night to get tix.... Psycho Circus, the tour with Aerosmith and 1st Farewell tour. After that I gave the karaoke show no more $$$. I can remember them truly in greatness.....
brings back memories, I made the varsity team in my sophomore yr...the seniors invited me to cruise n drink beer ..listened to Kiss, Van Halen AC/DC on the 8 track Lone Star beer n harsh weed ..Great times !!
I saw them on this tour at McNichols arena. Pretty awesome concert. We were diagonal to the right about a hundred feet first tear and when they let off the flames it felt like we were gonna melt.
This is how Kiss should be remembered Paul Gene Ace Peter doing there thing. We have you tube to keep the history alive. This show would be better than any avatar.
Went to all the reunion shows in Melb & Sydney back then and it was the best. They were using Marshall's and that was the sound. Once they stopped using Marshalls the sound was never the same.....
Was at this show! 10 rows back...right in front of Ace. The atmosphere in Tiger Stadium was beyond anything I've ever experienced in 40 years of attending concerts.
They split before I was old enough to go see them. When I got to see them at MSG on this tour it was exactly what I thought it would be like. It was all the live Kiss I needed.
Amazing how it starts off sooo...Soft and ends up sooo .. . Hard.!!! The song, the Song.... Another.. Mr Dilly Approved.. Great one from.. KISS.!!! 😂 🎸👍😎

E poi ....arrivarono loro!!! Mi innamorai della chitarra e del Personaggio di Ace Frehley....e niente fu più lo stesso ...KISS....
The chemistry between the original 4 is magical. I always thought this song has one of the 2 greatest bass entrances in rock music, highway to hell by AC/DC being the other❤😎
I was at this show 12 rows back center.Sponge and Alice In Chains opened with Layne. They had put these really flimsy plastic seats down that I don’t think would even hold my weight now but the rows of seats were really long and everyone was standing on them. At one point I noticed to my right about 30 seats over someone had fallen backwards and grabbed the person next to them and they fell and grabbed and it was just coming down the row like dominoes because no one was paying attention. I grabbed my then girlfriend and got her down before it hit us so it stopped there but it was a funny sight. We went from Detroit that night to the Palace of Auburn Hills the next night to see Garbage and Smashing Pumpkins, a friend that came with us saw Billy Corgan at the KISS show. It was a great weekend of rock and roll 🎸
I know there is lot of hate about tommy and eric out there ... but for me the real downfall of kiss was the deterioration of pauls voice ... imagine he would have been able to sing with full power till the end! This version of rock bottom is great .. thank you for that and for all the years that you have entertained me. God bless you!
It was after this specific time that they all should have walked away with their heads held hi knowing that they accomplished the unthinkable. Four guys from New York that took the world by storm.
Cheers from Sweden! Take good care folks! We are not alone - at all! The original setup!? Please correct me if I'm wrong! The great heroes of my forlorn youth - I'm 60. God bless! Peace! And hot damn (!) give us more!
Man, that version's great. Paul's voice was great, the notes he sang on this version were great, and the song sounded heavier and better than the already good Dressed to Kill album version.
It was so hot that night. First and only time I have ever dehydrated. My V.I.P pass got me to where I nabbed a front row seat right in front of Gene. As a huge KISS fan as a kid. This was a dream come true to see the original members. Saw them twice in the 80's. But it was terrible. What an awesome night.
@Apocalypse2031 I had a VIP pass and my real seats were not even on main floor. I walked up and the 2nd seat in from the end ( which would have been to Genes right) was empty. I sat down and finished watching Alice in Chains. I never moved from that spot and I never had a ticket for main floor. So you can spew your crap all you want. We used our VIP passes to sneak in a group of 10 people and they ALL ended up front row center stage accept me. We went back and forth and brought our entire group to main floor. This is the first time I have ever seen Ace play a double-neck guitar.
Same here! I like the look of it more than Jimmy Page's red one too...

Watch the official 'Hard Luck Woman' video from 1977, where Ace and Paul share a double neck.
@@Steambull1 They did the same thing to Cold Gin too. That pregnant pause broke up the flow of both songs.
Highly underated KISS song and totally kicking ass.
I love it! I just turned 55 and never gave it a proper listening session. 😢
I love I love this song 🎸👊
YES ! Rock Bottom was always a fave of mine ! They were all tight playing it too. Paul still had the vocals.

Totally agree
..”Ace spectacular on lead,”…
LOL
What were you listening to?
Seriously
@@2204JCM If you think otherwise then you are tone deaf and in love with wannabe Tommy Thayer... Only 1 Ace, the original & THE best...by far....
Rock bottom was the first song I learned to play on guitar. Ace is the best for ever !🤘
The original four. Rock Bottom was rarely played in concert. One of the very best KISS songs.
The Original 4..Always the BEST
Paul’s voice was amazing and this should have been the end…1996-2000.
Agreed. I saw them on the "farewell tour," and I felt no need to see them after that.
Let's be honest!!! After Peter and Ace true legends, it was always the end of the road!!! Lol 🤣
Team Peter and Ace always

Agree - they were rocking back then!
@@kevinchandler179 They're also addicts which is why they can't be in KISS.
Always my favorite growing up saved my money for 2 months to buy kiss alive #1. I had to cut grass for my albums and you know I've still got them too
I did the exact same thing to get my Alive! album back then.. 😆
$3 dollars a lawn when I was doing it. Now I can’t find a kid to do mine for $20
Kiss without Ace should be called Piss. Ace always made KISS’s iconic sound.
I used to go see Ace and his band play the end of the 80s early 90s in Detroit bars for $12-$15. Then I went and saw KISS for around $100 just to hear the difference. In those days Ace sounded better and still did a bunch of KISS tunes
Kiss would still be ruling the world if Paul Stanley could still sing like that

The originals. Nothing like ‘em.
Hearing Ace singing "Rock Bottom" during the chorus? Nothing like it!

This song on alive was always one of my favourites growing up
Yup. Wish the studio version had the longer solo.
Saw them in Seattle, late 79 just before Peter got let go. Saw them again reunited in Seattle August 96,I was smiling the whole time!
Dude. KRAZZY as it is. I saw them in 79. Mobile Alabama first concert then again in 96. New Orleans
How cool is that
this was by far the BEST version of this band in my not so humble opinion. Saw 3 shows of this go round. Best ACE look by far.
