Just a Touch of Love was released the year I was born, and it's the song that made me fall in love with playing bass. I was just a dorky white boy in the late 90s busting out that bassline whenever anybody was around who might know the song. I blew a mind or two back then. I can barely play it now, but it was a pivotal moment in my life.

From the rumors i heard, with the decline of Slave Mark turned to drugs.. He was at a known crack house when an altercation broke out and Mark was struck in the back of the head with an object.... Instead of taking him to a hospital, he was taken to an associate house and dropped off on the front lawn....😢

the best thing i remember about Mark Adams is a slave show and i was running the monitor mix. It was a small room because my board was right of the edge of the stage and Mark's bass rig, which as a bass player, was set up right next to me. To be standing less than 3 feet away from him while they played. I got to see and note his bass system as well as his effects. To also see him actually do some of the things i had heard on the records was real crucial. R.I.P. Mark Adams

Gary "Mudbone" Cooper Joins The Funk Music Hall of Fame & Exhibition Center (TheFunkCenter) as Assistant Chief Funk Ambassador
Legendary musician helps champion history of funk music to old and new generations
(Dayton, OH - June 28, 2016) Famed funk musician, noted songwriter and former vocalist for Parliament Funkadelic, Gary "Mudbone" Cooper, has joined the Ohio-based Funk Music Hall of Fame & Exhibition Center as “Assistant Chief Funk Ambassador” to bring news of TheFunkCenter’s opening to millions of fans who remember, appreciate and continue to jam to its rhythmic sounds.
Recognized as the man with a distinctive style and the creativity behind many of the major P-funk hits, Mudbone co-wrote and originally recorded "I’d Rather Be With You" with Bootsy Collins for Bootsy’s Rubber Band. This song remains one of Mudbone’s biggest selling records and one of the most sampled songs of all time. It has been used by Dr. Dre, NWA, Beyoncé in “Dangerously in Love,” Snoop Dogg in the film “Baby Boy,” Sugarbabes, Adina Howard in "Freak Like Me," Leela James and countless others. Hence, proving to be a milestone music maker in the history of Funk and R&B, and a cornerstone in Hip-Hop.
David R. Webb, Sr., TheFunkCenter’s president and CEO, said, "I am honored to have a musician of Gary “Mudbone” Cooper’s reputation and caliber to join the organization as an ambassador and an advisory board member. To have Mr. Cooper, a music tastemaker, lend his voice to our institution and help us promote the archival materials, educational programs and music, is a dream come true.”
As a Funk Ambassador, Mudbone will engage in national, local, and international media interviews, speaking engagements in local schools and organizations, and fundraising efforts to help launch the Exhibition Center. In addition to his role as ambassador, Mudbone is writing an autobiography, working on documentaries and continuing to perform with George Clinton, Bootsy Collins and other prominent musicians. Mudbone said, "I'm excited to introduce funk music to new fans and promote the mission and vision of TheFunkCenter. The world needs to know about the impact of these musicians and their continued influence over today’s music.”

+M Jones Absolutely the Very Best Funk Bassist who ever Thumbed Up. Marks tone and Roar on the bass and his runs were insane. Mark playing those lines since he was in his early teens. This man played for the Baddest Funk Band Ever.!! Mark was a top 10 all time Best bassist of this Planet. I know we always here about Bootsy and Louis Johnson and Marcus Miller and of course many other Greats. No one could touch Mark. No one . Prince is the only person who could be in the same room with Mark on Bass. Mark will be missed and I play in his honor every time I pick up my bass guitar. Mark your my Bass Hero. RIP Slave was one of the Greatest bands ever and they were not just all about Funk. They had a Unique sound that featured Starlena Young and the Great Steve Arrington. They had amazing Guitarist Drac and the Great Danny Webster. slave had this song called Visions, it was Hypnotic and the guitar solo was crazy. I also loved from that same album. One day I will be gone . so many man Great songs from this once in a lifetime band. Stella Funk my God and the list goes on. Slave was strong due to Marks Bass lines and the heavy drums. Mark Hicks also was incredible . I can go on and on but I will leave it at this . RIP Mark

As a life long funkater, I am deeply saddened by this travesty. Throughout the years, these brothers and sister, starlena have brought me so much joy and happiness via their special and unique blend of buckeye state funk. This is 5 1/2 years ago. Does anyone know if they found out who killed Mark and why? Did he ever get his headstone. if not his fans should all pitch in and make sure he gets the best, It's not acceptable for this great artist to not have a headstone. I admire Shenna and I pray she gets justice for her man, the father of her children and the love of her life. They will both find solace then.

Can you imagine folks, once upon a time in Black Music History there were Violins, Guitars, Drums, Bass, Organs/Pianos and horns that sooth the Human soul and satisfies the Human mind at the same time? The world was a better place when the Funk Musician was in Full Effect! They were on a Major Label. Nice House, had nice money, Nice Car! Not Rich! But living upper middle class. Aint no such thing as Hood Culture! The Hood was always good! That is where the Black Musician peaked! In the ''Hood'' or in The Country. Before Rap Hip Hop Culture developed in the south, Funk Bands were on Major Labels. The mindset of Life and Culture was Great! Then in comes The Fantastic Teddy Riley with his ''New Jack Swing'', Then Luke Sky Walker (Luther Campbell) NWA, Snoop Dog and Tupac (Laughter) Excuse me, still laughing. Whoa.'cuse me, More Laughter. Okay, I'm good. Baby, when those elements came into Musical play, The Black Funk Musician did not have a Shot!! Without Label, Mark Adams, would began to float. He became out of his mind, operating from a lost mind. Then this is when you arrive in ''Musical Hell''. You start doing business with people you would not being doing business with. No matter how good you are on that bass, where is your ''Mind State''? You really ain't got no ''Girlfriend'', you are just there cause you need a place to lay and smoke your weed. Your ''Girlfriend'' is your instrument. All you are thinking about is the next gig. Then she's getting tired of you cause the work ain't coming. So to avoid from getting kicked out, the black broken funk musician makes her a Manager. After that, its a wrap! Mark Adams would have still been living if he lived in France, London Or Utah. No Joke. When you are a Black Rock Funk Musician, you have to live around other cultures for Mental creative Energy Money reasons. With ''Our People'' Its tricky and Fu&ked up at the same time. Sometimes the loyalty and finance is just not there, and also add ''The Nigga Shit''. Sad, but True. Mark was a Beautiful Soul who had to deal with a Monster called ''Himself''. After the Label dropped, he needed healing and therapy. To be a Funk Band in the States between 1987 to 1991, was a transformation of a Nightmare I will share with you later. Back in 1992, he stayed with me for two weeks! Get ready for my story! Grab some Pop Corn. Here on youtube go to ''Comedy Hype''. And put in my name Rexx ''ColdFunk'' Garvin. Allow me to introduce myself, Nice to meet you, please tell a friend, I'm starting to Prepare Sandwiches, don't want you to be Hungry.......

Oh man I grew up listening to real music n real instrument playing bands like George Clinton,Bootsy, Rick James, Slave, zapp, earth wind n fire n so forth funk bands! But being a young man born in the 70s, Slave was one of my favorite bands. I feel so sad hearing this tragic ending n that so many people who say they luv him didn't even give him a proper gravestone, not to mention the thieves who robbed him after passing!,RIP n blessings to his family! Hypocrite band members don't even bother to help his family get justice, closure, n financial help, this is criminal n pure GREED from the so-called people who were his "friends"! Get a Lawyer and get his hard-earned money back!.

HOW THE FUNK CAPITAL OF THE WORLD IS FIGHTING TO KEEP ITS LEGACY ALIVE IN DAYTON OHIO!
    Stephen StarrJUN 19 2019.
When Dayton’s The Funk Music Hall of Fame & Exhibition Center - aka TheFunkCenter - opened in December 2017, locals delighted in it marrying a proud musical tradition with hope for the revival of a city long down on its luck. Built to celebrate the Ohio city’s reputation as ground zero of the funk world, the center drew volunteers and experts from the Netherlands, Japan and the U.K. and superstar names from Dayton’s 1970s and ’80s funk scene, who pieced together the decades-old instruments, records and memorabilia on display. Tickets to the opening ceremony sold out in days.

    wdtn.com/2016/04/21/dayton-funk-museum-to-open-friday/
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - “He was a funky brother who knew music,” said David R Webb, Sr., president and CEO of The Funk Museum Hall of Fame and Exhibition Center, when talking about Prince. He said the music legend will be greatly missed.
Webb said he met Prince and described him as very polite, and an amazing producer.
He reflected on the passing of Prince on the eve of a big day for the museum. It will hold its grand opening Friday inside the newDayton Metro Library Northwest Branch located at 2410 Philadelphia Drive.
He said it’s a great partnership that’s helping spread the word about Dayton’s important role in the funk music revolution in our nation. He said they’re in the process of obtaining more Prince memorabilia to compliment their current collection of local treasures.
“You’ll see some of the Zapp stuff, some of the Heatwave stuff, some of the Ohio Players… some of the Slave memorabilia,” he said. “And we have some interactive stuff that we’re going to do with the children where they can draw on the board and make music notes, and we have a funk-like Soul Train Scrabble board that we’re going to do with the children.”
He invited everyone to come for a visit and promised it’ll be fun.
The funk museum takes up about 700 square feet inside the new library.
Meantime, the new Northwest Branch of the Dayton Metro Library will hold its grand opening at 1 p.m. Friday. It is a combination of three branches, brought together to create a new facility for the neighborhood.
It was made possible through a bond issue passed by Montgomery County voters.
There are a lot of new spaces; like a tech studio to record music and make videos. Plus, 90 computers for the public, and laptops to use within the library.
Leaders invite families to come check it all out Friday, especially the kids.
“We have a children’s portal that they can climb through and really enjoy,” said Rachel Gut, deputy director of the Dayton Metro Library. “We have a special listening station for them, and special computers for early literacy and building those reading skills.”
