Im using ableton's redux (a bitcrusher) in combination with Ganz Graf Mod X and Multimap in max for live.

You could use envelope follower and velocity triggering to shape the visual changes with the elements in your music

for someone who’s new to max, is redux what’s making the visuals or is it used to craft them? truly breathtaking job!

redux is an audio effect, the same thing with the bit crusher, the audio effects change the visuals because the visuals are based on the sound. It's kind of like how an EQ shows the frequency waves bounce, it's just that, but 3d and you can move it around.

The M4L device he's using is reactive to audio. It's all being generated live.
