This is how I remember Dan Ingram! Finally met him in studio in July 1977. Surprised, but not, how smooth an operation it was, just him at the mic and a director running the board." Great guy! I brought a friend along, so his off-air greeting was, "Forget you, Amowitz, who's the girl?" :D

I remember 1967, but I was quite small! I remember hearing Paul Harvey on the radio, and seeing LBJ on TV. I remember riding around with My Grandfather in his 1962 Rambler!

I grew up with this stuff, though a little later. I was age one when this aired. I was about 16 when WABC switched away from music for good. Good times.

I remember the Dennison Men's Clothiers ads well into the night and early morning hours. "Money talks, nobody walks", the best four words ever found in any promotion. And the DJs on WABC knew how to deliver that, it just rolled right off their tongues. "Winds from the south... no that's the air conditioner you're holding your finger in front of..." Yes it is.

Charlie Greer was a master of the Dennison commercials. Read them in Iambic pentameter

@@garyrasberryjr.552 Iambic pentameter, that's rich. But whenn I listen to this again, I remember (sort of) Paradise Lost especially when Satan addresses his minions. There is some similarity but I would have to have the written script and parse the thing. Who knows, maybe they were written that way.

Morning host for whom Dan is substituting is Herb Oscar Anderson. Harrison is not yet a part of the WABC team and would in fact be on the air at the time this was recorded just down the dial at the home of the Good Guys, 570 WMCA

    Uh... WHERE'S THE REVERB???
Maybe the FM didn't have the famous WABC reverb when they were simulcasting, and this is a tape of the FM.
It's really strange to hear Big Dan on ABC this way... It kinda jumps out of the speakers at ya. The shouting in the background suggests this was NOT recorded off the board. This might be a unique "no reverb" aircheck because Dan usually worked afternoon drive when the FM was NOT carrying it.

At the the time thus was recorded, these shows were broadcast on AM. WABC did have an FM broadcast which by recent fiat from the FCC had to have different content then their AM broadcast. This was the case for all radio stations in the US. You don't see a mass move from AM to FM until FM radios start showing in cars. This interim period was the golden age of FM. It was fairly commercial free. There were stations in New York, and elsewhere I suspect, that would play whole album sides without interruption. If you had the money you could get a seven inch reel to reel tape and some fairly expensive receivers and get good quality recordings. The advances in semiconductors both in manufacturing and functionality between the late 1960s and the late 1970s was significant and facilitated the switch to FM as the main venue and AM mostly being used for talk radio. Although these guys you see here stayed employed, the top 40 format they employed was destroyed because the new formats appearing on FM did not go away although they weren't quite as liberal with the air time. I believe that many stations did make recordings of their broadcasts

Not trying to nitpick but this is a morning air check and the scores from the previous day's games the Yankees did not lose to Kansas City two to one , they played four games in 4 days and none of the scores were two to one which means this aircheck is not from that day or year

    • @sub40

All the scores provided point to 8/4 which would make this broadcast the next day or 8/5/67
