Just look at how we discerned what constituted that small piece of neural tissue. We are already trying to mimic the brain by building a physical construct having different hubs interact with each other similar to how ours work. IBM is a leader in this. Will we make it as efficient (yes on this part) and compact? not now; but even if not ever, who cares. The doing is in the trying. Hell, AI is almost a reality. More than anything, what limits robotics isn't the brain part, it's the body part.
