- adidas Skateboarding's Baker connection Kader Sylla joins us in London to talk about meeting Reynolds, giving up soccer, Scott Johnston's shoe design skills and a whole lot more!

I really hope he doesn't leave Baker prematurely to start his own thing. The market is so oversaturated with every skater wanting to have their own board brand and 99% of them mean nothing to most people. Baker is something special and I hope he hasn't lost sight of how great a team and company he has been a part of. He's such a rad and perfect fit on Baker I'd be so bummed to see him leave.

@@boimoser6293 I saw that. I mean it could just mean he was skating with some guys on the Violet team and used one of their boards or was trying out a new shape. He's really close to Strobeck. If we see more and more then that will be sus but one IG clips not much of a smoking gun. Honestly the only team that would halfway make sense for him to go to would be FA but even that would be dumb now that Tyshawn and Nakel left. Baker is the number one board co to me.

The raw interview was over 20 minutes long but we had some issues with our sound recording. However, we've managed to somewhat rescue the audio from the on-camera mic, meaning we'll be able to release a longer version next week. Keep an eye out for that!

@@TheCoreyDeal No, as much as rumours are interesting we have working relationships with a lot of brands and try not to put out anything that may be percieved to tread on the toes of others. Even in conversations with people who've recently changed sponsor, we try to keep chat to the brands they represent at that point in time, as to not risk potential badmouthing of former companies, who of course have no immediate right of reply.

I will say-he seems to have a more robust vocabulary than he is letting on. It's odd to me that some skaters (seem) to dumb themselves down. I mean, he really didn't say anything profound. He didn't say anything that you couldn't google.
And that is not a critic of Route One-I think you guys do great interviews. It's just that you can't squeeze blood from a turnip. It's also not a critic on Kader. He is (most likely) a high school drop-out pro skater who constantly smokes weed and parties. None of those things are bad or good-they are just facts. But that is not a recipe for any intellectual profundity. And why should any skater be profound? He is profound as fuck on the board. He doesn't need to be the sharpest knife in the drawer or have some deep insight into life. But personally, I think Kader is actually hella smart and way more articulate than he lets on.
Him saying he wants to make pants and "build" something could be taken as a hint he is leaving Baker, but that's not "building". He wouldn't be "building" Violet. And It would be dumb to leave Baker. You think Fat Bill can pay Kader what Baker does? Look at where The Boss lives and look at where The Bill lives. No offense to Big Bill at all, but this is bizness. Baker is the exception to every rule and has deeper pockets. Anyone who quits Baker is an idiot. Look at the list of people to leave Baker Boys.

So I seriously dont think he will quit Baker to ride for Violet. That would be really dumb. But skaters never cease to amaze me with the "odd" career choices they make.
