Worked ok my 2010 forester. I found that I didn't have to start and run my car. I just had to turn the key to where the dash lights came on. Also, after the P code was displayed, if I pressed the trip button again, it cycled through two C codes!

Thank you. I have a 2011 Impreza Outback Sport. It didn't work when I turned the car on, but it worked when I just turned the key enough for the dash lights as done on the 2010 Forester mentioned below.

The one time it works in your video, you turn on the lights after starting.
When it fails (and when explaining) you hit the trip button 4 times after starting (wrong!)
I tried this on a 2011 Forester and a 2012 Forester, works well for both.
No need to run the engine, just turn it on to where the dash lights up.
No need to have it in odometer mode, leaving it on tripA or tripB also works.
No need to fully turn on the headlights, just the parking lights is enough.
Yes, this all needs to be done in a few seconds.
Might not work on later generations of the Forester (after 2014).
Proceedure:
1) Key on
2) Lights on
3) Press trip button 4 times
4) Lights off
5) Press trip button 4 times
6) Lights on
7) Press trip button 4 times
8) Lights off (before you forget!)
In my case, I now see a "P----", indicating no P codes.
I push the trip button once and see a flashing "P"
I push the trip button again and it slowly cycles through two P codes of C0076 and C0042
I push the trip button again and it returns to "P----".

When the codes are up u can press the button and each trip is for different codes. my trip A is cleared but my trip B has a blinking P

@@iantheweblord drive by wire on the 07 is so shit. Miss my cable throttle Imprezas. I got a windbooster throttle controller to fix it though

What do you mean by the way of "lights on" , you mean switch the lights all the way up 2 clicks, or 1 click only? Thanks. But this does not appear to work in a forester 2010 though (unless i am doing it wrong)

If the car starts this method looks great. I just don't know why the battery I took off and
charged why it still won't turn over. And what do I need to know when the battery is removed and associated electronics are reset. My 94' Accord Wagon would require a code for the
stereo system---many were being stolen back then.So if the car won't start, the code reader won't work as well. Is this correct ? The windows were down all night when it rained but I covered them mostly.
