What a terrible interviewer HS was back then. He makes it all about himself and his poor guests sit there speechless. It’s a chore listening to this guy.
I disagree, back then the radio format favored quick choppy bits, Howard didn’t have the freedom he had on Sirius to sit down and listen to guests talk for over an hour. He had a 20 minute radio segment to try and cover as much as possible. It’s not fair to compare it because its two different mediums even though its still radio. And if you compare this to other radio interviews from the time period, this blows any of them out of the water. Terrible is a strong word.
I’m not comparing. You are, ma’am. This interview is a difficult listen. The interviewer is to ask the question, shut up, and let the guest speak. Moving the conversation along in a polite manner is fine, but constantly talking-over or interrupting the guest is bad form.
