German Chocolate Cake Recipe Easy From Scratch

- Today, I am showing you how to make my German Chocolate Cake recipe easy at home in your own kitchen. It's not an airy box cake. This is my mom's recipe. It is an old fashioned German Chocolate Cake that is soooo moist and very filling. A piece of this cake is quite satisfying!
This classic German Chocolate Cake frosting is absolutely the best! You cook it for 12 minutes and then mix in coconut and pecans for the best homemade coconut pecan frosting you ever tasted! This is the traditional German Chocolate cake icing.
Do you need a great recipe for the next Octoberfest? Make this German Chocolate Cake from scratch and you will impress everyone with your baking skills. I'm sure it will be a big hit!
Did you know...German Chocolate Cake is NOT named after the German country? Actually, it is credited to have originated from an American baker named Samuel German who developed a type of dark baking chocolate.

Never heard of sifting the batter. That cake looks good!
Never heard of it either 😅
Perfect timing for me to catch this video!! My late husband’s birthday is tomorrow 8/4 and German chocolate cake was his favorite!!! Thank You for the sweet memory.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 John’s always with me and sending me messages.😊😊😊
My grandmother always sifted the batter. She measured things just like your Mom did. What great memories.
I've never heard of sifting the batter on a cake.
My momma used her shower gifts for the rest of her life. The measuring cup had no red markings left. A stock pot would wobble on the burner and the cast iron pan was from an Australia high school friend. I used it until the handle snapped off. Wonderful memories and meals. They were the greatest generation!
Thanks for the great videos!
You should know that I LOVE YOU 😘. Your way of teaching is what I cherish the most for whatever housework or cooking or the way you lead your life or the way you raised your children. You are my inspiration. “Love from an Indian Muslim” currently in NJ!
As a German I have never heard of or seen this cake 😅 But it does look quite good 😋
It’s named after a man with the last name German, so it’s not from Germany.
@@bunkielee43 I didn't know that!!! Thanks for the tidbit!!
Its very tasty!
Its named after Mr. German and it was created to sell the Bakers chocolate. I believe "German chocolate", as its called, is a sweetened dark chocolate.
@@bunkielee43 correct. It's named after him and his chocolate

Hello grandma and grandpa. Your German chocolate cake recipe looks delicious. Thank you for sharing this one.
Ok I definitely want to try this recipe out!
I love the lard and flour method. It works so much better for me than the spray option. I too get a lot of satisfaction from the flour sticking to the lard

Your cake looks delicious! I’m going to try your recipe. German chocolate is my brothers favorite cake 🎂 thanks for sharing your recipes. Your a wonderful cook.
Loved the cake, looks so so good. The frosting looks as delicious......yummy. I can smell it and taste it and I may have to make some! :-) I have never heard of putting the cake mix through the sifter before baking but mother did sift all the flour and the baking powder and baking soda together and sift all of them together. :-)
Your mother looks lovely indeed. You take after her a lot. I love whatever it is you have been doing, your glow shows and you look just lovely! Love the hair do as well. It touched my heart when you spoke of missing your mother. We six girls were speaking of mom the other day and of the simple things we had.....no fancy things as we do these days. The good old days for sure. Like you, the spatula and the wooden spoon were threatened but rarely needed as we know the sound in moms voice if she had a difficult day. LOL Bless their hearts. Their prides and joys were all their children and grandchildren......as well as their favorite foods that everyone loved.............bless their hearts...........same for dad!
Thank you for the memories and the delicious recipes!
Blessings
You are just the sweetest ❤️
Dying to make this cake!
I downloaded the cookbook and I am so so not sorry it has helped our dinner expand thank you and your family for sharing it with us all
Thank you for purchasing it!
I've seen a lot of pro cooks put batter through a sieve. I always make German Choc cake from scratch for my husband and oldest daughters birthday! Even if you use a cake mix, if you make the homemade topping it takes it up a notch. Can't handle canned frosting. As always, love love love your videos!!
Good afternoon that cake looks delicious 😋 I never made German cake thank you for sharing you mom recipe 😊
German Chocolate is one of my favorite cakes!!!! It looked delicious Jennifer❣️
Hi my dad's favorite. When he was living. Your recipe so much easier than my aunt's I used called for a semi sweet choc baking bar. Looks wonderful... Thank you God bless

I make cakes like it all the time. They are delicious.
Mmmm! 😋 Love all the pictures...precious memories! ♥️ And aww, this was the cake my mom made for my dad every year for his birthday, which is on August 5th! He’s been living in long term care for the last 7 years with dementia in Central Canada. This year, she’s been ok’d to bring a little cake (she’s usually would get a sheet cake and ice cream to share w/ the other residents) and she’ll get to eat a meal outside with him on the patio! 😊 Just neat that you posted this when you did! Have a great day GG! 🙂🌻☀️
I'm watching this bcuz my moms birthday is August 5th as well and she loves German Chocolate cake!
So sorry about your Dad, my mom has demetia, too. My brother and his wife take care of her.
