  • During an autograph session after a Jonas Kaufmann's recital with songs of Liszt, Mahler, Duparc and Strauss in the National Theatre in Munich, we decided to ask Mr. Kaufmann three questions:
1st: Did you get to see the SHEN YUN show I recommended to you some time ago? [What is SHEN YUN? Visit ShenYun.com ]
ANSWER: He's sorry he didn't find the time to see it when he was in New York.
2nd: What trick are you using to manage to sing - after singing 23 songs - such a piano song to perfection?
ANSWER: He has no idea why he can do it. He thinks the trick is not to ruin the voice beforehand. It's a matter of technique. You need the whole body to support the sound. If you do it the right way your are able to sing a long time one evening. It's more the body that gets tired. And he says that now he has dorsal pain but the voice is still ok.
3rd: What do you think is the meaning of the [classical] arts and music to mankind?
ANSWER: Music is the language of the soul" - music is able to touch the strings in your heart or soul. There is no need for any kind of musical education for the listener to feel this.
Thanks to Roswitha for translating the answers.

I think Jonas loves seeing his friends and fans in his home town. At least I would.

No, more and more public exposure, more fame, more fans. Most of them are respectful, like Shen Li.

It heartens me that Herr Kaufmann said one need not be musically schooled to appreciate music. I know a little technically but I know a lot about what enters through my ears and into my brain and heart. I am so grateful for the artists that make it happen.

Pauvre Jonas Kaufmann. Les gens ne peuvent pas le laisser un peu tranquilles après ses concerts?
