I have always loved music and opera,but tenors like Carreras and Domingo made me love it even more. Yet Kaufmann has made me actually adore it. His voice is so different, with so many nuances . He really feels what he is singing and makes you feel it too. He has made me know new operas, try Wagner and even learn French and German in order to understand what he says and sings. He is a miracle worker. Pity he does not sing in Spanish and hardly ever comes to Spain.
Jonas brought me back into the opera fold. He has a majestic tenor voice filled with the finest
nuances and he sings with such passion and commitment. I wish him a long and fruitful career.
I hope he will appear more in the USA much more. We are lucky to have him. And - I like his
humbleness and how inclusive he is in referring to other great singers.
So wise and relaxed about the unpredictability of a singing career! We wish him a long run...
Enough said about Jonas' fantastic voice, artistry etc. for the moment. That is common knowledge to anyone who has heard him. This is an interview - and we can therefore learn something more important about Jonas, the man, apart from the voice:
He is humble (started at the bottom, doesn't like the 'star' idea). He is serious about his art (has to do it right, or not at all). He doesn't take himself too seriously (great humour, laughs at himself sometimes). He knows his place/vocation in the world and that he has to contribute to the community (carries on bringing opera to the world after Pavarotti and others left off.) Etc. etc.... Sounds like a splendid person behind the voice as well!

This man is a vocal god. He can sing the heavy Italian roles, German roles, as well as the French. He can interpret German lieder, the French chanson, etc. He, along with Juan Diego Florez (albeit in an entirely different vocal repertoire) virtually rule the opera stage. And they look so great onstage. They are the glory of opera.
I agree, even though I am less interested in Florez... But I love listening to him too and never miss a Barbiere if someone watches it in my family ! ; )

Listen To Jonas Kaufmann I listen to King Jonas every day for at least an hour at a time. Also in the car when I'm driving. Can't get enough of him. I'm praying that makes a recording of Duparc Songs with piano. Have his Met recital in October 11th, 2011. Love his Strauss lieder, and EVERYTHING he sings!
+Listen To Jonas Kaufmann I absolutely LOVE JK's singing!!!!!!!!! Along with Jose Carreras, he is my Favourite tenor ever!!!!!!!!! I love JK's Tosca and carmen, so touching, especially in the version with Thomas Hampson (Tosca) and in the ROH........ King Jonas is AWESOME! :))))

I could listen all day to Jonas' beautiful voice. In my opinion he surpasses every other dramatic tenor. He can sing everything. His voice and his intelligence in each role makes it his own, and he gets to the heart of what the composer wants. I love his passion, commitment and of course, his good looks!

It´s intelligence, passion and a wonderful sense of humour. I heard his voice first in a concert sent in Swedish TV2, didn´t actually look at him since I did paperwork. This voice... It has it all. Then again, it doesn´t hurt that he is goodlooking and charming.... You know, it was for me he sang all this lovely love songs. Me alone, haha!

I would never stop singing, but as it is irregular I always did other work in between.
Thank you, Listen to JK, for this interview. JK is always sensible and modest, which I respect very much. I am concerned that he got sick and cancelled all his concerts in early October on, including his Japan tour. I hope he is getting better. He was singing too much and he didn't sleep at all after the Peralada Festival going to Sydney (too many encores and too many autographing). I am sure that sort of schedule brought on his illness. Can you advise him, Listen to JK?
Jonas knows himself so well. Why doesn't he say no up front to some venues to avoid disappointment and perhaps the disrespect of fans?
Me again. I know making career choices can be hard but private life is important too. A good balance enriches character and performance.

Through J K I could confirm to my students that we sing with the whole body. J.K." help" me to explain that. I leave "at the end of the world" and its very difficult that they understand me, because this way its no usual between collegues. II teach in the University in my country, deutsche Lieder, chanson française, and universal repertoire.... JK visit us and the students where convinced!!! (endlich!!!). It's impossible to separate the head of the rest of the body..... My head think and my body answer.... Ich bedanke mich to Jonas Kaufmann!!!!!!!!!!!
