Yeah i got a mam FreeBass mb 383, it comes close to the 303 but what i find is i can get actually a hell of a lot more diverse bass sounds from these than I could ever get from any 303 emulator. The line in is godlike as well
It's been a long time, but do you still have an instruction of the cutoff calibration, the one you did for yours? A photo of the trimmers' positions would be just great
Thanks for posting this clip, I've been looking for an authentic sounding 303 emulator and this MC33 sounds the closest to my ears. You also nailed the looping and randomish sound of the TB-303's sequencer patterns.
What does 'accent' do? Produce random accents or increase the velocity range of notes? Sadly not all that familiar with the classic, interested mainly form the cheap as chips perpective. Nice, fairly organic sound certainly works in it's favor, and I have no qualms about it's limited synthesis aptions. Thanks for the demo.
Have been studying A LOT...for years basically...does this actually sound BETTER THAN A TB303?! Are there any settings where it sounds weak or "wrong"? Or does the MB33 Retro always sound great basically?
Acid Alex Thanks!:) I want to get a MAM MB33 Retro today! Ironically I am in osaka...right by Roland...and I don't know where to buy a MAM MB33 Retro here!
Amadou Diallo I use an Engine midi sequencer to sent notes, accents, slides. I use a few methods to come up with the sequence. The important thing is to make sure all the notes stay in one scale/key. An easy way to start is to create an arp with three notes, then record the notes and add slides and accents, then change notes up or down within the same scale. So move some a third, fifth or octave. You can usually come up with something that sounds cool. Just experimentation really.
hey Acid Alex, what position did you set the offset and scale on to get the filter to most closely emulate a 303? I read on a french forum that it was 12’ o Clock, does that sound right to you?? Thanks in advance
Christopher Paul it goes around from about 1pm to 11 at a push, mine is set to 4 offset and 5 scaling. This sits in a nice place where my TT resides but it's easy to go too far, ultimately it's where you like it best and on its own it goes right out there into super squeaky land which sounds great alone but I find maximum adjustment doesn't work too well with another 303 running at the same time. It's a super little box. The lower settings of 4 and below are closer to a genuine 303 BUT there is so much more than that, depending how far you pitch your overlapping notes for example affects the slide which also affects the cutoff mod etc, there is a lot to think about for such a simple box.
chris maister I don't use a DAW. I have it receiving MIDI notes from a hardware sequencer (connected with a MIDI cable). If You wanted to use it with a DAW you'd need a USB Audio/MIDI interface.
Thanks for your prompt reply. In my case, although I have sync it up on my audio interface (spl crimson) I can not send any notes to MB33. Do I need to have an external keyboard in order to send notes to MB33??
chris maister sounds like you need a USB midi interface, maybe like this one Roland UM-ONE mk2 USB MIDI Interface www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00967UN50/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_z3gxybEYHQDWJ
at 07:30 your demo made me hit the like-button. Ace !

I love this little guy. I had a TT-303 and sold it for this. It's frickin awesome! ... and that price?!
Are there any settings where it sounds weak or 'wrong'? Does it sound great basically any way the knobs are set?
Love it. Mines in the post.
Oh ya! I got one of these babies too.... Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

But can you write in your own tracks? Looks and sounds fantastic but I like to write my own stuff so was wondering.
mind blown
thats impressive
Just picked up an Avalon. Looks like I should have gotten the Engine and hooked it to this!
I actually sold my avalon recently to buy an Engine/w. cv mod. and an mb33. That's funny to see someone post.
Yes, this sounds very very good. Maybe one day...
sounds more like sh-101 than a 303 but hey thats still really cool since I like the sh-101 bass better :)
It's been a long time, but do you still have an instruction of the cutoff calibration, the one you did for yours? A photo of the trimmers' positions would be just great
Sorry mate I don’t own one anymore
@@AcidAlex Thanks anyway. What is it you replaced it with?
@@zerobject I have TD-3, TD-3-MO, TB-03 and T-8. I actually use the T-8 the most now. Nice and small and sounds great 👍🏻
Are the different parameters controllable in midi (cc implementation ? ) on this machine ?

Hi. Great demo! Does it slide automatically if notes overlap on your sequence? I have a Beatstep pro which only transmits slides over cv.
RainClouds yes it slides automatically
Acid Alex will this work well with a beatstep pro and traktor s4?
Sounds a bit thin if you compare it to the 303 or some 303 clones, but still sounds very good, especially for such a price!
yes it does sound thin, sold mine
this is making me sweat for a kick....

LemonSlice - It’s like a velocity boost on a note. It makes the note louder but also effects the filter depending on the sweep angle.
How do you program slides?
FreddyUnreal overlapping midi notes

ALL ONE it always sounds great

Hej, so nice tunes man 😉 wich sequencer is working here? Big thanks forward
evadum sequencer is Social Entropy Engine
Very nice ;) What do you use for distortion of the kick ?
I think it was the distortion on the TR-8
need to find a good EURO to USA power adapter for this.. the one i got at the store doesn't work well it makes the sound all crappy
How do create your acid midi sequence?
There are very nice

I will try this right now

Wondering about this as well :-)
Christopher Paul I will check this and let you know :-)

Wondering this also I just picked up and find I’m getting very little response in either direction from the VCF. Not sure if it’s tunable or defective

what are you sequencing with?

I hope you are well.
I would like to ask you how you mange to sync it up on your DAW?
cheers!!
