What I truly enjoy about your videos is you’re very thorough a lot like Tyrel fixes all or Chickcanic. No annoying music blaring in the background or you’re not shaking the camera. Your videos truly are great and thank you so much for them.
Thank you for the great explainer video. I watched it, then fixed my machine without issue!! $25 ring and 45min of my time, and that was being very thorough with the cleaning and re-greasing. My blower is as strong now as it was new! Thank you 👍
WOW -- nicely done. I've watched a few other videos but you do a more thorough and easily understood explanation of the procedure than some others. I see that the Craftsman blower had trigger releases for the wheels to aid in turning like my Husqvarna blower. I'll look at your other videos to see if there's any maintenance or adjustment needed for them either externally or while the bottom cover is off.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video! Luckily it was just the shear bolt, other than the friction wheel, helps you familiarize yourself if you don't do repairs on snowblowers everyday! Thanks again!!!
Good one. I always scuff up the driven plate a bit with coarse sand paper to remove the glaze. Sand like hands of a clock. Radially. Lucky those wheels came off so easily. I had to hang a Toro by one wheel from the rafters and beat the axle out of it. Weight of Snowblower helps, as does air chisel and several days of WD 40 on interface.
I love your channel Dony, and I want to thank you for your videos (great Respect for you). With the help of you I repaired my Craftsman snowblower, B&S engine, my friend's Husqvarna snowblower and I know what I mast doing with the problems of the small tekniks. You are very good specialist, because you can to say about everything by the very ease words. Thank you very march. ( I so sorry of my bad English) . Bobilkov Oleg, St. Petersburg, Russia.
Hey, very well done video's here. I'm a mechanical engineer and was still scratching my head with how to approach the disk replacement on my Craftsman. ( Drive went in the Blizzard of 2013). This gives me the info I need to dive right in. Thanks MUCH!
I haven't come across one of these more modern Craftsmans, but it looks like a well made machine. Much more elaborate than the 80s/90s Craftsman that are so common. Thanks for the good info, as always Dony.
Great video! Just finished replacing the rubber drive ring on my snowblower. Went exactly as described here...thanks! Just in time as another in a long-line of storms is due in MN in a couple of hours...
This is why I love your channel Dony, all those tips that only a pro could offer a DIYer like myself. A much smarter design compared to my MTD which requires a few more bolts removed to pull the drive ring. Interesting stuff.
Great step by step video...I have another unrelated question that you might be able to help. My Craftsman snowblower runs good, but once it stops, I can never get it started again until the following day, this has happened to me twice already....any suggestions, any idea would be appreciated, thanks.
Dan you do a very nice job on instructing viewers. I appreciate your time. Thank you. I have a Craftsman 9hp 28" snow thrower model 247.88790 (belly pan Model:31ae5htg799). I've been watching videos however I've not seen this model. I bought this new in the early 2000's. This unit needs a new friction wheel rubber. How do I get the ball bearing out to move the shaft over? Do I need to replace the whole friction wheel assembly.?
Fantastic editing! Quick question, I haven't done proper maintenance on my Craftman blower over the past five years other than regular oil changes. The other day when I went out to use the blower I found that I now only have one gear. The speed now is fast only, like transportation gear. Would this procedure fix my issue?
Dony because of your videos i'm Learning alot :) .. i bought used noma snowblower and i noticed the auger is always turning i checkedvthe belts it is tight . Is the belt tensioner ??? Or the cable ?
Dony, question. The easy steer function when pressed it just frees up the wheel drive on the side you engage ? Dies it work more or less like a clutch? GREAT VID once again. Thx
hey donyboy, thanks for these videos! I have same machine, I have excessive play in my auger assembly, up and down, and side to side, and I can see the auger pully moving with that movement, is that the auger bearing? and do you have a video of such procedure with this problem? thanks again! great helpful videos!
@donyboy73 I noticed in alot of your videos you dont use air tools is there a reason? But once again great video love the step by step, you make things look not so complex!!
I just picked up one this very same snowblower for around $100 Canadian. It's in mint condition but was wondering what you thought about these blowers...any issues I need to worry about? . I've just rebuilt my 17 year old Murray which will become my back up blower but it was easier to operate . We've only had one snowfall so maybe it's too early to judge but it's going to take some getting used to. Thank you for your informative videos . ..there fantastic.
Dam, that's a GOOD video Captn ! I'm a borderline feeb & I was able to easily follow and fix my machine - thanx to you. So, thank you Sir. RBG Manors Creep
HI Don , did this one on my troy bilt ( made by MTD) work out well . HAving it Vid form here is very good for the reference . Tho why is reverse on most snow blowers not as positive traction as in forward? cheers
hi Donyboy73. I have a Mastercraft snowblower that needs a friction ring replacement, but the drive shaft does NOT attach to both sides of the housing. Its shorter. Have you seen these types before? How should I take it apart?
Just wondering if you have come across a cracked engine plate on this machine. I have one to see in Ontario here. Guy says runs well. I do have a little welder. Or should i stay clear. Cheers Brian.
can you explain how to attach the chute on an older craftsman. I changed the ring and now cant remember how the chute stays secure without falling off. sorry for the question as i didn't take this apart.
Thanks for sharing another awesome tutorial! You're Craftsman snowblower appears to be just like my Husqvarna 10527STE. I'm getting ready to install a new rubber friction ring along with changing out my belts. I thought I'd look up my wheel shift lever (part number 532184080) as shown at 1:34 in case it needs replacing. Upon doing so, I found out that it's been discontinued. I've been searching for a replacement without any luck in finding one. Do you know if there is a replacement anywhere that's aftermarket? Thanks again and Happy Holidays!! 👍😊
i had to replace the return springs for the auger and drive clutch (for some reason they both were broken). I'm still waiting for the parts to be delivered to me, but my question is: do i need to lucubrate the chains in there at all while I'm in there? they don't look bad to me, could i just spray a little liquid wrench white lithium grease on them or should i not do that for some reason? ... (9hp craftsman snow thrower)
damn it don, I'm still not completely calmed because you traded your mazda for a chrysler! j/k cheers, hope you got lots of snow. we had some yesterday, first time this winter! and still all we got was just pellets of frozen rain. it looked like it was artifical, like something you buy in a store and says "snow in the bag" on the label :D
I have a bad problem I was trying to snowblow 7 inches of show with my 2010 ariens 12hp 26 inch blower and ran over a thine rope it wrapped around the right side and pulled the auger out of the bearing . How can I put it back in the Bearing? I do not know if I have to just remove the left side to loosen the auger to put the right side back in. I looked at the plastic bearing and it looks cracked . It is a plastic bearing in a metal holder held in with 3 screws.
donyboy73 any idea why my stihl hl100 hedge trimmer is not going when the choke is put back to normal posistion.got to leave the choke on when im using it.whtalls.en i put choke back to norm it s
so i just got a cub cadet 3x snow blower and the friction plate slips SOMETIMES! i also have a craftsman snow blower that also slips, they are both fairly new. Do you think that the only reason why it is slipping is the fact that snow is getting into the insides of the drive system? or do i need to claim warranty to get the ring changed? Thanks!
Would the symptom of a worn drive ring affect both wheels, or possibly only one? I am having problem with the right side wheel not turning under load... Thanks
Replaced belts on craftsman snowblower, put it back together and the friction wheel (aluminum one) will not stay down.its in constant contact with rubber friction wheel. Kinda lost on how to fix this
@wulbert2001 My Craftsman started out sluggish when I engaged the drive, I would have to give her a little pust to get moving. Now the right wheel dosen't move at all. Would a new drive ring solve this problem?
Hi. My left wheel is not turning when it hits a bit of snow but the middle pin keeps turning. Wouldn't this fix the issue or should I focus more on the wheel? It's a old 8/24 craftsman. Thanks
hi, i have one similar snow blower to that one, my problem is that starts but after few seconds start loosing power and goes off by it self, or sometimes stays running but when i press drive it turns off, i already cleaned the carburetor but still the same, do you have any advise for this issue?? thank you
Not only does the engine need to have gas going through it, but there must be oil in the engine and spark to make it ignite and finally, it needs to have air along with, gas, mixture to make the engine run. If you have all of these ingredients, it should run. I forgot to mention, it needs to have compression.
I wish all the UA-cam videographers would learn from you how to do instructional videos. You are by far one of the best!

Didn’t realize your vd here is 8 years old but your instructional vd is by far one of the best; very thorough and step by step is very clear.

Surprising that this is almost the same design as on my 1977 Aierns Sno Throw. After 40 years still using the same idea.
yes i have on the older ones, i usually take the bolts holding the shaft off and other parts before it
Dude. It saves me sooo much time by watching your videos before I tackle a repair. Thanx so much for these videos Donyboy!! - Dartmouth NS
I haven't come across one of these more modern Craftsmans, but it looks like a well made machine. Much more elaborate than the 80s/90s Craftsman that are so common. Thanks for the good info, as always Dony.
@jtclays nice to hear from you and thanks for watching
you are very good small engine mechanic and illustrators. I enjoy your video immensely.
I've seen many of your videos. Very well done. I've been able to maintain my snowblower myself. Many thanks to you and keep up the good work.
you're welcome
@daviddad thanks for watching!
you're welcome, greetings from canada
Great video! Just finished replacing the rubber drive ring on my snowblower. Went exactly as described here...thanks! Just in time as another in a long-line of storms is due in MN in a couple of hours...
Excellent presentation ..

And that's how you make a how-to video. Very good job my friend. Thank you for your attention to details.
Thanks for posting this. My Poulan Pro seems to have the same problem. Is the replacement technique pretty much the same?
I do not own a snow blower but I enjoy watching your videos as much liked Captain Kangaroo doing arts & crafts on television.
Great step by step video...I have another unrelated question that you might be able to help. My Craftsman snowblower runs good, but once it stops, I can never get it started again until the following day, this has happened to me twice already....any suggestions, any idea would be appreciated, thanks.
donyboy you are a great teaching explaning ever move on your repairs i have learned alot about blowers mowers an more small engine stuff to thx
Have you video on how install the spring and the cable for the throttle ?
I have to say not too many people out there have great videos like yous. Well done
VERY well done video. I learned a whole lot. Great step-by-step with excellent viewing angles.

Fantastic editing!

nice video. that model blower appeared to have the skid steer controls on it. always wanted to try one.
very helpful video, steps are very clear, nicely done!!! thank you!
@TheSensFan could maybe need a linkage adjustment or a new friction disc
Outstanding teaching video. You know your stuff! Cheers!
Dony, don't you need to remove the drift cutters to tilt in the service position?
donyboy you should do a video on how that new steering system works on those craftsmen I am curious
hey donyboy, thanks for these videos!
I have same machine, I have excessive play in my auger assembly, up and down, and side to side, and I can see the auger pully moving with that movement, is that the auger bearing? and do you have a video of such procedure with this problem? thanks again! great helpful videos!
thats a big bad boy snowblower
@MisterModder123 yes it's good to get into tight spots but may come off quicker
you're welcome harry
@donyboy73 I noticed in alot of your videos you dont use air tools is there a reason? But once again great video love the step by step, you make things look not so complex!!
Awesome video Thanks
Is the aerosol based Lithium grease okay? I don't have the kind you have, but I do have the spray kind in a can. thank you!
Thanks Donny that is the style of unit I have ..do recommend any particular place to purchase the parts? Thanks let me know.
Thank you sir.

Thanks for the tutorial. Would this also be a similar repair to a single speed drive machine?
Hi I have a gas ( 4 stroke ) generator. I dont run it often. I like to prime it with starting fluid to get it going. Is this a bad idea?
Can heated grips be installed on this loop style handle ?
hi Donyboy73. I have a Mastercraft snowblower that needs a friction ring replacement, but the drive shaft does NOT attach to both sides of the housing. Its shorter. Have you seen these types before? How should I take it apart?
Good work thanks got to love the internet
thanks man
real time footage i love it
Great detail in your video tutorial. What type of editing software do you use. Very Professional well done.
Just wondering if you have come across a cracked engine plate on this machine. I have one to see in Ontario here. Guy says runs well. I do have a little welder. Or should i stay clear. Cheers Brian.
good instructions, thank you...
Great job, thank you very much.
Nice Vid .. But 1 question, why didn't you use Lithium Grease on the wheel drive shaft ???
Another awesome video you've put together. Thank you.
thanks for watching
So good to see SAE nuts..
can you explain how to attach the chute on an older craftsman. I changed the ring and now cant remember how the chute stays secure without falling off. sorry for the question as i didn't take this apart.

frees the traction on one side
@wulbert2001 turn out the screws 1/8" of a turn and see what happens or it may need a new carb kit
you're welcome

yes it is good to put grease or oil on the chain but make sure it doesn't get on the drive discs
damn it don, I'm still not completely calmed because you traded your mazda for a chrysler!

real good job right there.
@wkl747 thanks for watching
i it has a tecumseh engine you may try rebuilding the carb
Would the symptom of a worn drive ring affect both wheels, or possibly only one? I am having problem with the right side wheel not turning under load... Thanks
it would affect both
Replaced belts on craftsman snowblower, put it back together and the friction wheel (aluminum one) will not stay down.its in constant contact with rubber friction wheel. Kinda lost on how to fix this
Aaron Kuhn
There is a spring that holds it away from the wheel, maybe the spring is missing or not hooked up
@wulbert2001 My Craftsman started out sluggish when I engaged the drive, I would have to give her a little pust to get moving. Now the right wheel dosen't move at all. Would a new drive ring solve this problem?

could be both or one or the other
@seasonedtoker LOL, not much snow here
Thanks!
can you use brake clean instead of straight gas?
yes
My drive dogs periodically skip when I blow snow with my crafstman, is there a fix to this? Every thing seems to be in ok shape
hi, i have one similar snow blower to that one, my problem is that starts but after few seconds start loosing power and goes off by it self, or sometimes stays running but when i press drive it turns off, i already cleaned the carburetor but still the same, do you have any advise for this issue?? thank you
