Our Sun decides to play a prank on us by launching a farsided solar storm at the same time Region 3697 on the frontsided Sun fired off an X-class flare. The combination of events caused many would-be forecasters to assume we had a strong solar storm headed towards us again, just like we did in early May. But Nope! The Sun was simply testing to see who was paying close attention. This is a real reminder that although space weather phenomena are easy to see, they arent always easy to interpret properly. My concern is not our technical equipment but actually my very own electrical and magnetic system in my body.
As a highly sensitive person I sense the solar storms and the CMEs directed towards the Earth very clearly.
I sense them before they reach the Earth, it seems.
I will follow along here, and become a little more conscious of what is going on.
I was also watching that filament all week in the SW region of the solar disc . . . was waiting for a "lift off" but looked like a dud . . .

The sun exploded with a massive flare in region 3697 on June 1, leading many to think there would be a solar storm heading towards Earth. However, careful analysis showed that there was no large dark area around and that the impact wave actually came from far away from the sun, not from region 3697.
Areas 3698 and 3705: This area began to intervene when the event occurred, showing large physical structures and impacts. The explosive structures are not aimed directly at Earth. There could be three solar storms in a row with only a small portion involving Earth in the past 24 hours.
Solar Orbiter STIX instrument: Confirmed large flare and beautiful halo from the far side of the sun with magnitude M 2.8 cannon class.
Dangerous areas: Areas such as 3683 and 3674 are at risk of large artillery explosions when they return to Earth's sight in the next few days.

So I retired from swpc 4 years ago and I'm very happy to see your channel , They don't get the credit the deserve, maybe you will raise awareness of how Solar weather affects us.
When you say "Northern lattitudes" and or "Mid lattitudes", from what lattitude do you call "mid" and what "northern"? I'd there a measurable cut off point? (For example 50° North?) similar for Southern hemisphere [south or mid etc.]
Yep, Northern or high latitude is 0°--30°, mid is from 30°--60°, and low is 60°--90°. And, yep, same in Southern hemisphere except it's higher Southern latitudes closer to the South Pole.

The butterfly graph charting solar cycles demonstrates the end of a cycle with nearly exclusively equatorial sun spots... We're in the middle of this cycle & I'm wondering if it's normal to have as many near the sun's equator in the middle of the cycle as I see today?

Do you think we could possibly have something so large that it could affect our day to day lives. Basically do you think we could lose function of our power grids in parts of the world during this cycle? I know we cannot predict that but would you happen to know what size flare would really affect our power grids?

@@brandismith73 yes! I’m so fuzzy, my eyes are fuzzy, my brain and last night it was actually painful. I found an app that tells me what’s going on with space weather and the electricity in the atmosphere. I can’t believe I can feel it as I’ve been through many sun cycles before and never noticed.
Most definitely. I’ve been feeling the effects since march. The sun and the moon are definitely creating an entirely different energy for some of us to feel. Many are drained and almost having the flu symptoms. For me I have a ton of energy most of the time which is rare for me. I also do get drained if in the sun for even just a couple of minutes.

Just a quick question for you, in easy terms why did the sun plank us with the storm/flare as you said in the beginning of the video ? Is it anything to worry about ? I'm a cb operator here in the uk, at 7pm my time,Scotland come through. If our bands are open,it means the 10 meters are open ( I don't know if 2 meters or 70 cm are open as well).
new subscriber question : Is the earths position in the southern hemisphere of the sun due to the lag of the earth catching up as we hurtle through space? Nope. It didn't. That was a frontsided graze from the second or third eruption after the X-flare. On top of the primary halo being farsided, the in-situ observations of the ICME were inconsistent with the coronagraph observations. It was moving way too slowly and was far too much a flanking blow to have had a solar wind signature like that. We are in the solar maximum phase with over eight CME launches a day. There were many contenders for the storm that hit Earth, but the farsided halo, of which you speak, was not among them.
