"Beyond the sands of time Within the realm of the mind There is a land where life and death Are ruled by steel Out of this land five conquering heroes Arose to make their stand Throughout their journey They stake their claim That they are the warlords By the name Medieval Steel" This must be the single greatest introduction to a band in a song since the beginning of time.
Speaking of a European fanbase, I remember back in the early 90s a friend copied the EP on a cassette and I was immediately enchanted. And I don't know how many people asked me for copies of that cassette. It was very hard after all back in that day to get new material from overseas of bands of their stature, let alone news. So we all knew Medieval Steel and all wondered as to what might happened to them. Then sometime in the mid 00s we heard that they'd be playing somewhere in Germany and we mostly thought it was a money grab, but apparently it wasn't. Though Dark Castle was released from a local label (I'm Greek) I didn't really catch wind of it. It was the deepening of the financial crisis after all and picking our faces from the mud was a priority and sadly music wasn't. Then in 2022 I run into Gods of steel, and I was really surprised at how solid and great the album was. Now you say they're preparing a new album and I'm super excited about it! A very good band, totally deserving a chance and I'm happy they are finally getting it. Another great episode on your part!
Apparently there was this Greek kid interviewed on TV during the national high school exams (baccalaureat?) or something and he was wearing a red shirt with Medieval Steel on it, just like the EP. And it got lots of people talking about Medieval Steel again.
@@LarsOfTheMohicans I know both the guy and the video. The video was made viral as "the most indifferent examinee" and it's something that went viral, meaning we're talking mid 00s at best. The tape trading era I was talking about was around 15 years before that. The only reason that guy knew about Medieval Steel is because they already had achieved cult status in Greece. Nope, that poser had nothing to do with it. I can remember tracks from the EP being played in metal clubs before 2000.
Similar to Warlord. That would be another great band to cover. Love your videos! Keep up the amazing work! We appreciate your hard work. Great job! Thank you and God Bless!
Outstanding classic band that should've been huge. Ghost from the Battlefield and To Kill a King are metal classics, whether anybody's heard them or not! Great video! Keep up the outstanding work.
Man this video was timely. I was just listening to the new singles from the upcoming album this morning. The debut is one of the greatest Heavy Metal EP's ever released; not one bad song on there! It's a shame they weren't any to follow up with a full length record back then. The Dungeon Tapes will be as close as we get to hearing what that will sound like.
I met Medieval Steel when they played a small show at the Delta Drive In(They no longer showed movies there) just outside of Sikeston, Missouri in 1984. They opened for Cobra. I saw them again in Cape Girardeau, MO in 1985. Both times the stage was a trailer bed. Medieval Steel was one of the many influences one for what I do now.
Nice BC Rich Warlock axe right there. This American band had a great fan base here in europe OH YEA they did. great share as always. i was at the Keep it true fest in 2013 in Lauda-Königshofen, Germany. there a few vids on YT of them playing. Good Metal Band!!!!!!!!!
In the mid-80s, their title song absolutely ruled my small N.E. Arkansas town, including #1 on the local radio station. It became the unofficial theme song for our football team, and was no small factor in our undefeated season. "...came the king and his marching men...' were the opposing team every time.
So happy that this band is getting more recognition. They really should've become more notorious in the 80's but were held back by the record label's mismanagement. Their style reminds me of a pretty unique mix between Manowar and Rush. If they'd do more tours or metal festivals, I would love to see them perform live.
I'm not that on board with them, but I have some friends who are totally devoted. Their signature song is burned into my brain just from my mates blasting it on repeat. As a side note, that name Fire Choir does have a ring to it, honestly.
First time I heard the debut EP, I was blown away by it. Bobby's soaring vocals, The stellar guitar work, awesome vintage guitar tones, and the overall epic, mystical, and sometimes melancholic atmosphere, I LOVED it all. And for an underground mid 80's release, the EP has really good production sound. The early Medieval Steel sound, to me, was like a more raw, straight forward precursor to another of my favorite bands, Crimson Glory, who took that epic, mystical sound to even greater levels with their first two LPs. Medieval Steel, Crimson Glory, Running Wild, Ashbury, and Griffin of some of my favorite bands from this era, and fave bands overall.
I would've been all over this band when I was like 15 or 16. Fates Warning,Manowar, Queensryche, and any band remotely in that Euro metally vein was where my head was.Cool video

I thought it was the Medieval band that appears on one of the Metal Massacre compilations. But these sound pretty good. It took them 30 years to release an album! and another 10 to get the second! I'm going to look for them to do my homework. Thank you Teacher!
Gods of Steele, probably would have came out earlier, but pandemic and line up changes. They have had some of the best Heavy Rock musicians in the Mid South on all of there albums. Medieval Steel is one of the single greatest metal songs of all-time. Its one of those special songs that really evokes a mental picture of its subject matter. I've had some of my very best workouts to that song and no shortage of PR's powered by it.
