Cory Doctorow is one of the smartest people I have ever read - his books are informative and entertaining at the same time. I think he also did some work for the United Nations about internet security or something. Have a great day folks. Aloha.
I just looked up his book on audible and found his why my books aren’t on amazon. Gonna have to get it old school, much respect! I just love this guy and found him from a more perfect union vid that was brilliant
Oh, he was, especially during the beginning of personal home computers straight on thru to the internet's beginning. He was on radio and tv a lot back then, and wrote columns & books. I have read and enjoyed everything he has written, even when I don't agree with him. Cheers
I'm watching all of Your shows David and Thank You! You are among the VERY FEW on UA-cam that I enjoy getting TRUTHFUL news from. Otherwise, with FauxFOX and the like, they are, as their Attorneys point out during law suits; "FOX is an entertainment station." You know the saying: I listen to comedians (You are not though, but You can be hilarious sometimes) for my News and I listen to "the news" for my comedy.
I never thought of them as AI from the first mention of these new programs. They just never lived up to the idea of what AI really was. I’ve been waiting for someone with a PhD to create a new name for them.
Thanks to ChatGPT, people 15 years from now will see doctors who never wrote a single paper in their entire lives. I'm glad I'll be dead long before that. "Who needs an education when we have Google?" 😡
Technology gives us so much that is useful and beneficial. Modern materials allow us to design spectacle frames that are so thin and light, than you would barely notice them.
It's not just Unilever and P&G. I just looked up Frito Lay because I was eating Cheetos. The parent company is Pepsico and that's where it ends. Now I'm wondering just how inaccurate saying those 2 own most of what's on the shelves is. Come on, man. Don't put BS out there.
I adore ChatGPT. Harvard Law School [Edit Im not referring to students] is using it and it's freeing them up to do research they wouldn't otherwise have time for!
I would think every major law firm would want to use it along with every hospital. You will still have people reading the outcomes and making decisions with both the written material and the individuals knowledge and ability to do even more research if needed.
Quite an insightful interview. My solution approach would involve pro-freedom anti-greedom taxation based on market share. New path to higher returned earnings via more competition.
"I dont like calling them artifical intelligence because they are neither articial nor intelligent" I hate when people say this. First time i heard someone say it isnt "artificial" though, usually people only focus on the "Intelligence" part of AI. I checked 3 different dictionaries for "artifical". They all define it as "human made". I would like to claim that AI is human made, and therefor artifical. "intelligence", is harder to define and there is a larger difference in the definition between dicationaries than for "artificial". But they all seem to have something about obtaining knowledge and using that knowledge (usually to solve problems). Now Cory also have a problem with saying these algorithms "learn" and thus would probably also have a problem with saying that they "obtain knowledge". So now it becomes a few levels deeper on definitions. We need to define the words in the definition of the words that we are interested in. At some point we must agree that language is a social construct and defintions of words change with time, place and context. We have socially agree to call these algorithms "AI" and i see no reason for us to stop doing so because some people include "sentience"/"sapiens"/"consiousness" into the defintion of "knowledge"/"learning". I do not think of "knowledge" in that way, nor do the computer scientists developing these systems. Lets just agree to keep calling it AI. Thats what we have called it for decades. Calling it AI is only a problem for people who have rigid views on the definition of "intelligence". Btw, intelligence in some context is just defined SIMPLY as "information" (for example: "military intelligence")
What's impressive is how human Zuckerberg looks. If we're gonna have bots that we spend money on they should look as human as he does. We'll need to ofcourse work on how they act as nobody wants another Zuckerberg. 😂
Funny you're talking about copyright issues and formats of other creators as a copyright issue with your shows format a copy and paste of the majority report 🤣
All any bad guy needs is a Catalyst to push their narrative and power :(. Any entity that can do better than humans, are essentially a threat to humans. Smart robots that can adapt can easily be used for a dark purpose
Naive, sure it has that capability, but will be taken over and used for corporate and power purposes. Can be used for good, most definitely will be used for evil lol

Thanks for having Cory Doctorow on. Haven't heard much from him lately so this was a delight to listen to.

0:37 David I love your show. It’s honest, straightforward, and always news worthy. Keep up the good work.
As a music professional, I love seeing content like this on your channel, David. Thank you, and more of this!

This guy makes a lot of sense.
Excellent interview, David.
Fascinating and inspirational informative segment absolutely loved it!
This is something I know nothing about. This was enlightening
Thanks. I wish Cory were more well known.

Great interview and convo, thank you
Cory Doctorow is brilliant and this book is so excellent. Really glad to see him on the show.
Lol, Doctorow finally focuses the right things, and the comments just go "me no like AI". Put on your thinking hats for this one my friends.
I learned something here. :) Interesting interview.
Awesome segment

Hooray, there is someone else on the planet who knows these tools are not AI or ML!

AI stock market bubble will be the next big "thing", but at least it will actually have future applications unlike NFTs 💀
Really interesting interview!
I had to go to chrome because of the extensions I needed for programming. I was using Firefox before.

great show
Another great interview between two giants.

What does he think of the Elon Musk meme ? Substance or self promotion ?

I'm trying to help you with the algorithm David but you have to leave kinks in the description to find your guests and their content easily.
Sir, I hope this helps your algorithm.
Every comment should help, along with every REAL, NON-Bot "Thumbs Up".
Apparently, comments need to be seven words or more to help with the algorithm. No idea why it's seven, just been told that several times now. Cheers
xo david
Wait! meidas Touch has Ad's now!
Hopefully FB fixes the issue.
He's going to be Clifford stoll levels of wrong on ai

Babies are human made. Artificial? 😹

I don't think AI is going to doom us, it's going to help us go further and make things easier. Like TARS in Interstellar.

How easy do you want our life to be? What are you willing to trade for "easier?" It's a zero sum game.
