One other advantage of the needle gun is the average size of the removed paint chip is larger, less likely to blow around off the work area. I did a project with the world's cheapest pneumatic needle gun. Worked well for hours at a time. Don't know if you can power a larger air compressor with your electricity on site but the guns are lighter and seem to last forever.

hi Rick, didn't think of it that way, but yes you are right. about the pneumatic needle gun... I have a pretty cheap one too. and in my experience the gun is of lesser importance , it's all about the compressor. and you need a huge compressor if you want to get any work done...

When removing rust with a needle gun you push small rust particles into the steel. Over the course of decades you'll get deep pittings. Our boat was treated with a needle gun for most of the time. Since you mostly remove paint and the protective zinc layer didn't get removed and also with modern paints I think the needle gun works better for you. Compared to our experience your progress is a bit slower but that could be the different paint. Also we do have the big Tercoo. Are you located in Belgium or in Germany?

I am sure the guy on the right with the needle gun was at least ten years older than the left version! you got up and down like it was hurting fella, gravity sucks. I used air powered needle guns as an apprentice many years ago before safe working limits. they rock, but after a few hours you hurt. Looking good on deck now, must feel good.

I was knackered, you noticed it. but the result put a smile on my face. about the pneumatic needle gun... I have a pretty cheap one . and in my experience the gun is of lesser importance , it's all about the compressor. and you need a huge compressor if you want to get any work done... or am I wrong an is an expensive pneumatic gun more efficient?

@@BoatProjectY You are correct on the air supply, needle guns draw a huge amount of volume and need a fair amount of pressure. Your supply probably runs out of cfm, its not got the volume. A larger reciever tank would help, but for what you do. Stick with what you have. It will save your hands in the long run letting the electric one cool down every half an hour. Just remeber that the results will last longer then the aches ;)

@@alexneville4394 thanks for confirming my thoughts, I wish I was wrong, though. big compressors are expensive.

Hi, i always enjoy boat restoration and so i am watching your channel too, but i seriously wish that you would create longer Videos (and no, i do not mean that you do not use timelaps) but i always enjoy longer videos more insteaf of such 10 min Shorts of which 7 mintes are timelaps

I do too, I wish I had the time and financial backing to spend more time on the boat , document it better, and for sure spend more time polishing the edits. but I have to work to fund this restoration. and there are , no matter how you try stretching only 24h in one day.

Chromates are exceptionally good at preventing corrosion, however they are carcinogenic and their use is now seriously restricted in the EU and UK. When sanding or needle gunning paint films that contain chromates you should treat them with extreme caution and wear a respirator as well as other PPE. I would suggest that you think of it like asbestos and take similar precautions to when you removed the asbestos blanket from your exhaust. You should also consider anyone else working near you and make sure they are similarly protected.
