It's like this every time. The new champ is op so that it catches attention and they gather data...after some time they "balance" it. This is the reason why they play official competitions with at least one big patch behind of what the servers have for normal players.

Overturned is basically just a matter of numbers, a champion having too much strength on a certain ability or abilities that can be changed with a simple patch.

I don't like the way she runs out of dashes after the first 100. But luckily she doesn't run out of mana, that was a close call man, nearly had to pay attention to resource management in lane.

No, riot is trying to remind you of Riven. Riven isn't allowed to cast half of her kit while she's Rooted, and hopefully Ambessa here will be the same way.
at this point, i'm a 100% convinced the devs are either getting paid bonuses or think they have better job security if the champion is played a lot, so they make them broken by design to assure that exactly that happens
Well, kinda true. If you make a champion that nobody wants to play obviously it won't reflect good on your work. And Riot also already admitted that, on release, champions are OP otherwise player have a bad experience playing them and the champ will not get picked up at all.

For those searching for Ambressa’s big weakness, it’s that in the early game, after they cast their combo, all her abilities are on CDR for like 10 seconds. For literally 10 seconds after her combo, she can only hit you with autos…that’s it. 😂 I abused this in a ranked match when the enemy team finally got the Ambressa first pick swap. Needless to say, after an unhealthy amount of chain ganking every time she missed her combo, punishing her, and resulting in her inevitable death, she was ragingggggggg!!! 😂🔥🔥🔥
You know if Riot is already saying "her counterplay is to save your CC for her", it's gonna be ugly. CC is a universal method of stopping threats. To say that a champ's counter is CC basically means that champ doesn't have any counterplay. Actual counterplay would be things like playing a certain way to respond to something an enemy champ does, like waiting until Fizz's E is on cooldown to jump on him, or keeping your distance from Warwick while he is charging Primal Howl and then engaging as soon as it ends. "Just use CC" is not counterplay. Kind of sucks to see this because the last few champ releases have actually been more modest. Aurora can be annoying to play against, for sure, but she's not overloaded by any means. She's got a couple of pretty basic skillshots and a short dash with very brief invisibility so she can reposition in fights, and an ult that's great for all-ins for teamfighting, but confines her to the same area enemies are trapped in, giving enemies an opportunity to focus her down or force her to cancel her ult so she can escape. Aside from Aurora, Hwei is a jack of all trades but doesn't do anything other champs can't, Naafiri is as simple and straightfoward as assassins can get, and Briar is just the diver-est diver of all time, with her sole objective being to DIVE THE ENEMY, and when she does she is restricted to running directly at you, completely unable to dodge anything you and your team throw at her. Some of these champs have been S++++++ with absurdly high winrates before, but only when Riot buffs them too much and they just do too much damage. That makes them overTUNED, not overLOADED. Jhin has also had moments of being quite overpowered as a result of buffs, that doesn't make him badly designed. I can name methods of counterplay for all of these champs I just talked about. Ambessa though? Riot just said it themselves, all you can do is CC her and pray.

I mean there are plenty of champions in which not having cc or failing to use it on them would make it seem like there's no counter play. Virtually every assassin falls into this category, master yi, blue kayn, katarina, etc etc etc. There is so much cc available in 2024 that making meaningful cc a requirement to kill certain champions isn't that big of an ask.
Miss those times when the summoner spell flash makes a difference in fights. With all the latest champions released by RIOT with so much mobility, i think flash spell is getting more redundant.

1. Riot needs to explain to me lorewise why she is using energy. Aren't only Ionian and especially Kinkou champions energy user? (Shen, Kennen, Akali, Zed. Lee Sin is maybe an exception) 2. As Poppy is still exceptionally good in SoloQ right now in multiple roles because of champions having more and more dashes (it might even be possible to blind pick poppy right now), I think Poppy and probably Taliyah will become better to a point where antidash is to valuable, just because every new champion has one or more dashes.
Cant empathize for ADCs. Adding that role and the marksman class was the dumbest thing Riot ever did. Flawed design from the get go. Ranged, auto attack based carry role.... As an example, jax Q have more range than most ADC. Nasus W have more range than most ADC. Almost every dash is either the same or most range than most ADC. Back in season 4-6, ADC had a reason to be so squishy, since it was the Main damage source of the team, but slowly the game moved towards a state of every role deal damage and something else, but marksman stayed as only damage

Seraphine, Lissandra with zhonyas, Aurelion Sol, Qiyana, Skarner, Mordekaiser ult to isolate, Syndra, Orianna, Vi, Nautilus, Wukong, Aphelios gravitum ult, Zyra, Lillia... like I could keep going on but there's plenty of ways to deal with her and other mobile champs. Lock em down and let your ADC clean up.
Riot: Movement tools are very powerful, which is why we don't make them spamable without severe limitations. Also Riot: This champion can do a free medium range dash every time they cast an ability.

So her passive is kalista and sylas passive together, her w is ksante w, her e is darius q, and her ult is a skill shot vi ult. Very creative and unique champion.
Ofcourse cc counters every champ in the game but it counters champs like Darius more than champs like Fiora/Kayle for example. Some champs just rely on running at people those champs usually get countered the hardest by cc.

Good comparison, because in many ways Ambessa and Riven both have infinite dashes. HowEVER: 1: Riven's dashes are TINY. Ambessa seemingly possesses the same amount of dashes (plus her ult is a Yone ult), but unlike Riven, they're respectably big dashes, which WILL, and I mean WILL, ONE HUNDRED PERCENT, BE MADE AT LEAST SLIGHTLY SHORTER IN A HOTFIX because speaking as a Riven main myself, a single Ambessa dash is analogous or equal to about 2 Riven dashes, so she basically has double, even triple the mobility once you factor in W and R being dashes. I'm not sure if Ambessa has movespeed steroids, and if she doesn't, that basically means Riot reworked Riven again and sold said rework as a new champion. Riven's Q is quantity over quality, made only good by Q delay, otherwise she's surprisingly kitable and sluggish. In this current age, ADCs can kite Riven no problem if they know what they are doing. In the video we can see that Lucian has trouble kiting Ambessa, and he's one of the marksmen who's best equipped at kiting Riven (even with Q delay and proper E timing, I can never catch up to a good Lucian player), so I see no reason to not try Ambessa. 2: Kalista's passive wouldn't be great as a melee because you would need to be in melee range to ostensibly stick onto your opponent through auto attacks, so the trigger became abilities instead, which unironically gives Ambessa even MORE mobility. Also it seems like ALL of Ambessa's abilities can dash, including W and R which are dashes themselves. Riven's W and R however, are NOT dashes and have cast times which can stun Riven herself if not animation cancelled, which is why animation cancelling these abilities via Double Casting and ER1ing respectively is so important on Riven. Ambessa does not have this limitation, though like K'Sante which is why she's most often compared to him, her skill ceiling seems higher than Riven's. 3: The Yone ult functions exactly like Vi ult, yes, exactly. Only difference is the skillshot aspect which makes it a blend of Yone's and Vi's. 4: Ambessa's W is a reworked Riven E, that shields (even looks bigger than Riven shield so maybe its cooldown is longer) and dashes but also deals damage, directly reWARDING the Ambessa player for blocking damage taken from champions, which is a pretty cool aspect if I'm being honest. Ambessa's other damaging abilities also seem to have wider range and AOE than even Riven during ult, basically making her the epitome of 200 years in game design. At this point, Riven's biggest flaw is that she was made in 2011 where her mobility was considered disgusting and unacceptable by old standards. Champions like Ambessa and the fact Riven has become surprisingly kitable in modern League really demonstrates that Riven is starting to show her age. Which is funny because Riven is young in the lore while Ambessa is an elderly woman in her late 50s. Sorry for the essay - there's just SO much to cover here.
Side note, Ambessa's use of Energy has really interesting lore implications? All the other energy champions are Ionian Ninjas (with exception to Lee Sin, an Ionian martial arts master). I wonder if something about training in Ionia is part of her lore, or if they just gave up on having a unique resource system for that string of characters because they got lazy lmao

What do I think? We need a universal anti-mobility *thing*. An Item that deals damage to enemies whenever they dash. One idea I have for it: ~2600g/2700g item with AP and Ability Haste and a burn passive. While an enemy is affected by the burn, whenever they dash, blink or are displaced they take an additional burst of damage and the burn is re-applied.
so kalista has to be weak because she can dash after every auto, and the dash caps her attack speed (even more if she is slowed) but ambessa gets additionnal effects for using her mobility option

They must be trolling at this point. 999 times they have been proven wrong that this is not the way they should be designing champs yet they still give every new champ overloaded kits with no counterplay. They should stop making champs if this is the way its going to be because everytime such a champ comes out its at our expense for a few months until its nerfed to oblivion
It's not just the overloaded kit either, this champion is unreadable in a fight. All the ability animations look extremely similar, and it's hard to tell what she's casting.
It is that some people and company feel the need to make every next thing of their more bombastic, with more fanfare; even to their own detriment, because it's hard to make a smaller thing and not face some amount of backlash or disappointment. Michael from Vsauce used shorts (and I think also a next channel) to make things he was interested in, but that were smaller, didn't fit another 30+ minute video with different scenes, lots of editing, jokes etc.
It's got counterplay, but the counterplay is "either you stun her so she can't play the game or she kills you so you can't play the game". This game has no middle ground. It's either "get CC'd to death (seriously, why the fuck can I be stuck for 5 seconds of a 6 second fight?)" or "leblanc coming in hot with a .34 second combo that's going to one shot you even though you have MR and 3k health".
Riot: *releases unbalanceable champion* Riot 2 months later: "It is really hard to balance for both in ranked and pro play! So passed the release hype, we are gonna gut this champion into oblivion!"

This is Ambessa, a champion with 4,700 HP, 329 Armor, and 201 MR, has Unstoppable, a Shield, and goes over walls. Has Airborne, and the cooldown is only 1 second too. It costs 15 Mana. The W CD is even refreshed when he transforms. He has true damage on his passive. Then, when he stacks Armor and MR, he gets Ability Haste too, Ability Haste to his Q, and his spell casting speeds up. Then, he has an AD ratio, so his W…AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

An undodgeable thresh ult that cast twice
>R passive : Gains Armor penetration and life steal on her ability (life steal on everything)
So we have pantheon's R passive, combined with aatrox E that doesn't need to be on minions
>R active : Gets unstoppable, blinks behind targets in the ult, suppress them for 0.75sec, deal damage then stun them for 0.4 sec (so 1.15sec CC)
So we have a yone ult, in faster, with even more CC...
In short :
Riot combined irelia's dash, leesin's energy sustain, seraphine attack range, on an antitank "bruiser", that have max hp scaling damage, with aatrox sustain, pantheon's passive and having yone ult, and getting a spell that slow as much as thresh ult that cast twice...

No, riot is trying to remind you of Riven. Riven isn't allowed to cast half of her kit while she's Rooted, and hopefully Ambessa here will be the same way.

For those searching for Ambressa’s big weakness, it’s that in the early game, after they cast their combo, all her abilities are on CDR for like 10 seconds. For literally 10 seconds after her combo, she can only hit you with autos…that’s it. 😂 I abused this in a ranked match when the enemy team finally got the Ambressa first pick swap. Needless to say, after an unhealthy amount of chain ganking every time she missed her combo, punishing her, and resulting in her inevitable death, she was ragingggggggg!!! 😂🔥🔥🔥

You know if Riot is already saying "her counterplay is to save your CC for her", it's gonna be ugly. CC is a universal method of stopping threats. To say that a champ's counter is CC basically means that champ doesn't have any counterplay. Actual counterplay would be things like playing a certain way to respond to something an enemy champ does, like waiting until Fizz's E is on cooldown to jump on him, or keeping your distance from Warwick while he is charging Primal Howl and then engaging as soon as it ends. "Just use CC" is not counterplay. Kind of sucks to see this because the last few champ releases have actually been more modest. Aurora can be annoying to play against, for sure, but she's not overloaded by any means. She's got a couple of pretty basic skillshots and a short dash with very brief invisibility so she can reposition in fights, and an ult that's great for all-ins for teamfighting, but confines her to the same area enemies are trapped in, giving enemies an opportunity to focus her down or force her to cancel her ult so she can escape. Aside from Aurora, Hwei is a jack of all trades but doesn't do anything other champs can't, Naafiri is as simple and straightfoward as assassins can get, and Briar is just the diver-est diver of all time, with her sole objective being to DIVE THE ENEMY, and when she does she is restricted to running directly at you, completely unable to dodge anything you and your team throw at her. Some of these champs have been S++++++ with absurdly high winrates before, but only when Riot buffs them too much and they just do too much damage. That makes them overTUNED, not overLOADED. Jhin has also had moments of being quite overpowered as a result of buffs, that doesn't make him badly designed. I can name methods of counterplay for all of these champs I just talked about. Ambessa though? Riot just said it themselves, all you can do is CC her and pray.

Jhin is a bad design by how uninspired and basic af he is,but gameplay wise his design isnt overloaded and doesnt bring nothing bad to the game,that is the difference between a champ that was made for the game and a champ that was made just for a lack of ideas,ambessa is the definition of that,hwei with his 10 abilities is still a mage who fits really well in his class and is very well rounded gameplay wise,its like they store all their bad ideas and then just blow them up together and ksante and abessa are born
I mean there are plenty of champions in which not having cc or failing to use it on them would make it seem like there's no counter play. Virtually every assassin falls into this category, master yi, blue kayn, katarina, etc etc etc. There is so much cc available in 2024 that making meaningful cc a requirement to kill certain champions isn't that big of an ask.

1. Riot needs to explain to me lorewise why she is using energy. Aren't only Ionian and especially Kinkou champions energy user? (Shen, Kennen, Akali, Zed. Lee Sin is maybe an exception)
2. As Poppy is still exceptionally good in SoloQ right now in multiple roles because of champions having more and more dashes (it might even be possible to blind pick poppy right now), I think Poppy and probably Taliyah will become better to a point where antidash is to valuable, just because every new champion has one or more dashes.
Riot doesn't care anymore about the lore and gameplay, This champ should be the proof of that.

As an example, jax Q have more range than most ADC. Nasus W have more range than most ADC. Almost every dash is either the same or most range than most ADC. And is not like ADC damage is SO Big now as it was in the past. Back in season 4-6, ADC had a reason to be so squishy, since it was the Main damage source of the team, but slowly the game moved towards a state of every role deal damage and something else, but marksman stayed as only damage

Lock em down and let your ADC clean up.

Good comparison, because in many ways Ambessa and Riven both have infinite dashes. HowEVER:
1: Riven's dashes are TINY. Ambessa seemingly possesses the same amount of dashes (plus her ult is a Yone ult), but unlike Riven, they're respectably big dashes, which WILL, and I mean WILL, ONE HUNDRED PERCENT, BE MADE AT LEAST SLIGHTLY SHORTER IN A HOTFIX because speaking as a Riven main myself, a single Ambessa dash is analogous or equal to about 2 Riven dashes, so she basically has double, even triple the mobility once you factor in W and R being dashes. I'm not sure if Ambessa has movespeed steroids, and if she doesn't, that basically means Riot reworked Riven again and sold said rework as a new champion. Riven's Q is quantity over quality, made only good by Q delay, otherwise she's surprisingly kitable and sluggish. In this current age, ADCs can kite Riven no problem if they know what they are doing. In the video we can see that Lucian has trouble kiting Ambessa, and he's one of the marksmen who's best equipped at kiting Riven (even with Q delay and proper E timing, I can never catch up to a good Lucian player), so I see no reason to not try Ambessa.
2: Kalista's passive wouldn't be great as a melee because you would need to be in melee range to ostensibly stick onto your opponent through auto attacks, so the trigger became abilities instead, which unironically gives Ambessa even MORE mobility. Also it seems like ALL of Ambessa's abilities can dash, including W and R which are dashes themselves. Riven's W and R however, are NOT dashes and have cast times which can stun Riven herself if not animation cancelled, which is why animation cancelling these abilities via Double Casting and ER1ing respectively is so important on Riven. Ambessa does not have this limitation, though like K'Sante which is why she's most often compared to him, her skill ceiling seems higher than Riven's.
3: The Yone ult functions exactly like Vi ult, yes, exactly. Only difference is the skillshot aspect which makes it a blend of Yone's and Vi's.
4: Ambessa's W is a reworked Riven E, that shields (even looks bigger than Riven shield so maybe its cooldown is longer) and dashes but also deals damage, directly reWARDING the Ambessa player for blocking damage taken from champions, which is a pretty cool aspect if I'm being honest. Ambessa's other damaging abilities also seem to have wider range and AOE than even Riven during ult, basically making her the epitome of 200 years in game design.
At this point, Riven's biggest flaw is that she was made in 2011 where her mobility was considered disgusting and unacceptable by old standards. Champions like Ambessa and the fact Riven has become surprisingly kitable in modern League really demonstrates that Riven is starting to show her age. Which is funny because Riven is young in the lore while Ambessa is an elderly woman in her late 50s.

Side note, Ambessa's use of Energy has really interesting lore implications? All the other energy champions are Ionian Ninjas (with exception to Lee Sin, an Ionian martial arts master). I wonder if something about training in Ionia is part of her lore, or if they just gave up on having a unique resource system for that string of characters because they got lazy lmao

What do I think? We need a universal anti-mobility *thing*. An Item that deals damage to enemies whenever they dash.
One idea I have for it: ~2600g/2700g item with AP and Ability Haste and a burn passive. While an enemy is affected by the burn, whenever they dash, blink or are displaced they take an additional burst of damage and the burn is re-applied.

Modern day Riven with a kalista passive triggered off of ability usage and a long range yone ult. 3000 years of game design experience.
so kalista has to be weak because she can dash after every auto, and the dash caps her attack speed (even more if she is slowed) but ambessa gets additionnal effects for using her mobility option
To be fair Ambessa has to be within melee range which makes her more vulnerable (theoretically). Kalista can just kite away without much of a problem.

This is Ambessa, a champion with 4,700 HP, 329 Armor, and 201 MR, has Unstoppable, a Shield, and goes over walls. Has Airborne, and the cooldown is only 1 second too. It costs 15 Mana. The W CD is even refreshed when he transforms. He has true damage on his passive. Then, when he stacks Armor and MR, he gets Ability Haste too, Ability Haste to his Q, and his spell casting speeds up

They must be trolling at this point. 999 times they have been proven wrong that this is not the way they should be designing champs yet they still give every new champ overloaded kits with no counterplay. They should stop making champs if this is the way its going to be because everytime such a champ comes out its at our expense for a few months until its nerfed to oblivion
It's not just the overloaded kit either, this champion is unreadable in a fight. All the ability animations look extremely similar, and it's hard to tell what she's casting.
It is that some people and company feel the need to make every next thing of their more bombastic, with more fanfare; even to their own detriment, because it's hard to make a smaller thing and not face some amount of backlash or disappointment.
Michael from Vsauce used shorts (and I think also a next channel) to make things he was interested in, but that were smaller, didn't fit another 30+ minute video with different scenes, lots of editing, jokes etc.

It's got counterplay, but the counterplay is "either you stun her so she can't play the game or she kills you so you can't play the game". This game has no middle ground. It's either "get CC'd to death (seriously, why the fuck can I be stuck for 5 seconds of a 6 second fight?)" or "leblanc coming in hot with a .34 second combo that's going to one shot you even though you have MR and 3k health".
