Glad to see those parts noit making cans and a blower with more air flowing seems like a win/win situation to me. FINE job on the assembly, by the way!
This brings back a specific memory of changing an exploded shim pack and blower on an 8V92TI powered yacht in Nassau Bahamas. I dropped the haysoos de crisco clip in the gear train and luckily it didn't go all the way down because I had a rag stuffed in there. That initial feeling is bad.
I had said a long time ago I'd make a rebuild video, so that I did.:) Haven't found any other videos on the topic, so thought it could help people who want to rebuild them.:)
I am fairly sure that on the Achates ACE two stroke engine that Cummins make for the US-DoD the blower is a screw type. Not sure about its bypass arrangement. Thats a nice walk through of a blower rebuild.
@@greywuuf Yes, there was a 6V53 with a whipple and it wasn't too spectacular.:) 166HP and 425 FTLBS of torque. Here's the video. ua-cam.com/video/iQ0F-tFruYE/v-deo.html
Still a little confused about timing. Are there timing marks on the gears for the initial setting then use shims for fine tuning? Is it possible to be one tooth off? How do you know if it's not timed right, it binds up? If it's not timed right, how do you know to add or subtract shims? I backed this up & still don't get it. Thanks for answering my questions, Harling. I really like this video.
Timing is referring to the rotors. If they are not timed correctly you won't have the clearances and they'll bind. Shims are added to only one gear, so you adjust the one gear to get the desired rotor spacing, or timing as Detroit calls it.:) To know if to add or subtract, you determine that by pulling on the gear or tightening the gear down. Easier to see this when assembling.:)
@@billiardballs Yes, exactly, not only the lobe to housing, but the lobe to lobe as they rotate. If the timing is out the lobes will touch each other as they rotate.:)
Thank you for the insightful video on how to rebuild a blower. Though a precision built part, they are relatively simple in their operation. Do you find eBay is the best online platform to find parts if you can’t find local? I get a lot of Detroit parts off eBay, but like you indicated, stuff is expensive when you can find it.
I find a lot of parts locally in Facebook Market Place and through Ebay. I also joined a few Detroit Forum on FB as well, so get some parts there as well.:) Last place for parts is PCIndustries and by new parts from them.:)
How do you know those rotor seals are teflon? Do you grease them when installing? I have the FP-5198683 kit from 2015. Would those be telfon seals in that kit? Thanks for the great video.
It looks suspiciously like you installed the drive on opposite rotors between the N and T Blowers, is that because you are running you intake on opposite sides between the two?
The bypass blower T blower is from the same side as the turbo. The drive gears have to be changed for my engine.:) Then the N and T bypassed blower with be the same.:)

Excellent video, offered very good Clarity for the non believers about the fact its a blower not a supercharger!! 👍
Thanks, yes very true.:)
Bonus... i was not expecting a blower breakdown video. Very helpful, thank you.

Yes, screw type is more efficient.
Males me wonder if a whipple supercharger has ever been tried ?

Would it hurt to surface that endplate on a mill ? Curious as i dont now the condition of my engine but i do have a flycutter on my mill
Yes a mill would be the answer.:) Make the end plates like new.:)

@ Ok, I think I get it. You checked the timing by checking the clearances.
