Check out rising force 40 years ago Angi malmstein.this so called guitar player Monti cannot play a note.his voice is crap his songs no feelings at all. He nothing more than a made up draw card.and his guitars are junk and his PRS mt15 are fake . absolute junk
Probably the most beautiful tuning I've heard, probably the best tuning for a melancholic song. I love that Mark teaches us something about the tuning in the process, I'll be writing maybe one song for my album on this tuning.
Ever since I started listening to AB III and Blackbird, my appreciation for Alter Bridge has gone through the roof. Absolutely love Mark's melodies and solos. Can't wait to see what they do next.
After watching Tremonti's guitar lessons and some clips of him talking about how he plays and writes his music I can't help but to focus on the sound of the guitar when i listen to a CREED or Alterbridge song,ROCK ON TREMONTI.
I never really experimented with Open tunings before listening to AB but god damn it sounds sooo good. Cant get enough of open tunings now, its so beautiful to strum along. Just hard when you get to the lead and stuff but when you want to strum freely, everything sounds beautiful. Favorite is Open G, (WOnderful Life, Watch over you)
This is why I want his guitar, he goes drop a# then plays this and it all has amazing clarity. Those pickups and the way the whole guitar is designed is just perfection. Plus PRS has the best finishes in the business.
Alter Bridge is my favorite band for many reasons. But he hit on one of them here. Their music is very relatable. The subjects that their songs touch on are always deep. AB 3 is particularly special for me.
Tremonti is a genius much respect to you sir he's one of the few ppl that deserve to be named "Artist" AB is so artistic and that's what i love about them you dont find bands like them these days , i mean they put a solo in almost every song the wrote and they have 8 mins songs like "Black Bird" without a doubt AB is my fav band along with metallica
So, not a complete noob but started learning acoustic, electric and bass, jazz, classical, and blues and THEORY!!! All at once so am a bit of a jack and not a master. So while i work on getting that drone going I enjoyed being introduced to D5 but accidently tuned it wrong. Instead of Db Ab Db Ab Db Db, I tuned it to Db Ab Db Ab C Db. So instead of open D I have open D7. Has its advantages in open dissonence to be resolved with a simple 1st fret on the 2nd string. Created a piece using this that is inspired by Tremonti and Konesky (no not Kennedy - Konesky of the D). I honestly could not be happier with it or myself right now, although it is still being worked on. I recently gained 2.5stone in lean muscle in 6 months of grooling hard work but am way more proud of this. Hope you all have a great new year.
he says D5 tuning, which is from the lowest string to the highest string as D,A,D,A,D,D, but the actual song is played a half step down (which i think he is playing it in this lesson) which would be Db5 OR C#5 tuning (same thing). So that would be Db,Ab,Db,Ab,Db,Db. And im pretty sure the song is in the key of Db major.
Newfound respect for this guy. I hate/hated all things Creed..predictable songwriting..predictable guitar playing. Since then ..Tremonti has impressed me a lot with his musicianship. Quite obvious he was being held back in Creed.
Josh Martins Ive been saying the same thing for awhile. I liked Creeds first album then learned to hate the rest of it outside of Tremonti's playing. Alter Bridge really got me into his playing. His solo project is awesome as well, if you haven't checked it out I'd highly recommend it!
+Consolous agreed, I think this kid/guy either doesn't know a thing about guitar or knows very little about the guitar work in creed. I'd assume the former.
I loved Marks playing but really haven't followed him (band wise) since Creed..man I've missed out ..Ill be downloading all AB and Tremonti albums forthwith..
@manonmagiccarpet Yeah alot of modern rock guitarists these days kind of sound the same but Mark is definitely one of the ones that stand out. I think he may be the best guitarist to come out of this generation of music
Man! His music and creations always have a feeling-attached to it. And to me that's the greatest form of music. Its not only the notes that are ringing, its the emotions as well. :p Respect brother!
yeah mark awesome music man you wrote in this song. the solo and bridge and the outro really gets my head banging! im gonna do a cover whenever my bands gonna release an album
Don't let the fact that Mark played in creed fool you into thinking he is not a great guitarist man he is my favorite guitarist he can shred a guitar for sure 🎸 thanks for making great music brother
@robMD2010 Very well put. I don't even use standard tuning anymore. Sometimes I'll go to E flat for covers but, alternate tunings (especially open ones) really inspire me in ways that standard E can't begin to. Much like Mark, I find that the sounds they have to offer are a better reflection of who I am and what I want to convey as a guitarist. It opens up a whole new dimension to creativity and writing.
Imagine Tremonti was ya dad, instead of bedtime story's tell him to get out the acoustic and play you to sleep! lol if he got out the electric there would be nothing but rocking out all night :D TREMONTI U R GOD!!!!!!
Clayton139yeah that would work but honestly it disappoints me that they play a lot of the ballady stuff acoustic live. It’s good acoustic but to me it’s got so much more emotion hard rocking and loud. Lol. Like that Amsterdam 2008(?) I loving memory!!!!! Soooo goooooood. That’s the best recorded concert they ever played and that song is so emotional. I wanna hear wonderful life and watch over you electric
peavey classic 50! lol i'm sure it's something better than that, but i can get that exact sounds out of my 50 if i hook up my gate. if any aspiring guitarists out there want a great amp get a classic 50 (if you can find one). good ol' dual tube with a BUNCH of sound. great comments on the 0d5 too mark.
@EvilHippy38 Amen to that! I feel the same about standard, only use it on my acoustic in church! Alternate tunings are definitely the way to go, how many songs have ever been written in standard E? Thousands if not millions, standard is boring, alternate tunings offer you so many different colors and voices of the chords we're all usedto playing, and makes it easier to play sometimes, but the real point is, they've just got so much potential and they offer you so many new sounds.
He started learning guitar with books & instruction videos, later after he made money with Creed,he went to Troy Stetina(famous guitar teacher) and payed him for private lessons. He also took lessons from M.A.Batio,Rusty Cooley and Myles Kennedy over the years. His old bandmate S.Stapp spend all his money, from Creed on drugs/booze,he spend it on guitar lessons!
Aldo Orozco if you played both styles you’d be a very well rounded player. Slash is all about feel and very blues oriented but can still play some fast stuff and wrote some of the best riffs of all time. Tremonti is an even faster player who enjoys prog stuff and his tone is pretty cool too. Great heavy riffs but his clean riffs are just as good. Two very different styles but I love em both! Slash can’t sing for crap tho… haha
bluesync1 I listened to creed a little and didn’t dig their sound at all. Tremonti wasn’t as proficient a guitarist at the time and Scott’s vocals are so not my style…
@uchiha1000 He means the specific scale positions and chord voicings he found & used inside the alternate tuning DADDAD - the D5 Tuning. 'Shape' often refers to a specific *chord voicing.* A chord voicing is a specific chord, at a specific location on the guitar, in a specific tuning for each string. A scale's shape is the pattern of usable notes that can be reached without moving your arm, & is determined by the tuning-just like chord shapes. A scale shape is often called a *scale position.*
He doesn't talk about the theory and chord types, he refers to the riffs with certain emotions, i guess that's how all the songs he writes are so relatable to certain emotions
@bobspie4 could be the way you wind the strings onto the guitar, have one wind around the top of the string then 2/3 bellow this way when you add tension tuning, it will clamp onto the string, try to refrain from over winding too.
Marks playing is so lyrical and musical. I think he is seriously underrated.
Tremonti is one of the best musicians out there today in any genre.
100%
Check out rising force 40 years ago Angi malmstein.this so called guitar player Monti cannot play a note.his voice is crap his songs no feelings at all. He nothing more than a made up draw card.and his guitars are junk and his PRS mt15 are fake . absolute junk
Fact
I wish I had one guitar for every tuning Mark ever used...
Lol me too.
Tobias, you would have about 454 guitars.
Amen!!
That’s going to be my new excuse for a new guitar, thanks lmao
And I got ten guitars for every one you got 😁🤪
Mark not only a great guitarist, he's a true teacher that has spent his time teaching. Truly amazing person.
I agree with that my friend.
Indeed 👍
You forgot that he's a pretty good singer too
One of the best riffs he's ever written and one of the best I've ever heard. So much emotion in it.
Probably the most beautiful tuning I've heard, probably the best tuning for a melancholic song. I love that Mark teaches us something about the tuning in the process, I'll be writing maybe one song for my album on this tuning.
Not an odd song sir. This is a successful one. Every time I listen to this song it brings tears into my eyes. You are the best Mark Tremonti
He was talking about odd time signature: originally not a simple 4/4.
😄😄😄
Open D5 is Db Ab Db Ab Db Db!
Hope that helps!(:
know any other tunings? lmao
Man I would've loved to hear this in its original odd timing
Same
There is a video Mark created with FRET12 where he plays a recording of this idea in its original form

Don't get me wrong, I love their songs... But I'm obsessed with analyzing the sound he puts into songs, now. It's absolutely amazing.
Jam Up Retrievers He's amazing.
the sound of his guitar is amazing
You’re one of my favorite guitarist of all time . Ever since Creed you are just unbelievable
Mark may be the nicest guy who ever played guitar...food for thought ^^
Or is that Myles or Slash?
Mark is one of my biggest inspirations. This song has got to be one of ABs deepest most beautiful songs.
I never really experimented with Open tunings before listening to AB but god damn it sounds sooo good. Cant get enough of open tunings now, its so beautiful to strum along. Just hard when you get to the lead and stuff but when you want to strum freely, everything sounds beautiful. Favorite is Open G, (WOnderful Life, Watch over you)
Some of the most beautiful chords I've EVER heard is in this song: 5:05
"Hey I'm Mark Tremonti, an awesome guitarist from an underrated band and I betcha if you play this you'll be awesome just like me!"
His PRS is amazing.
PRS guitars are amazing
It’s a first gen in tiger pattern. Idk if you can get those, might be a custom Paul sent him. She beautiful
In Mark's instructional DVD "Mark Tremonti: The Sound and The Story", he plays the original which he recorded on a tape in the "The Story" section.
Yeah but that sounds 4/4-y
This is why I want his guitar, he goes drop a# then plays this and it all has amazing clarity. Those pickups and the way the whole guitar is designed is just perfection. Plus PRS has the best finishes in the business.
this guy comes up with some amazing melodic riffs every time and know how to mix them with cool heavy stuff, great musician
Mark Tremonti creates such amazing riffs with unique tunings
Alter Bridge is my favorite band for many reasons. But he hit on one of them here. Their music is very relatable. The subjects that their songs touch on are always deep. AB 3 is particularly special for me.
Such a beautiful tune.
"you get there, then the rest its easy" jajaj yeah of course. Thank you Mark...
Tremonti is a genius much respect to you sir

Best song, best tune. Mark Tremonti is a beast!
Over time for me the best Alter Bridge Song - Has this special vibe i can not describe at all
This song summed up my childhood pretty accurately. Summer of 2011.
It reminds me of the sound for "My Sacrifice" by that band Creed!!
Also mark was the guitarist of creed
Genius at work.
That PRS has got to be the most beautiful guitar ever made.
that is the most beautiful riff i've ever heard, seriously
Mr Mark Tremonti Love your guitars licks. Yes God is real!
No he isn't. Grow up.

Beautiful guitar, AMAZING TONE! Great song! Alter Bridge and Mark Tremonti for ever!

Josh Martins Don't think things like the fingerpicking pattern in One Last Breath is predictable.
Your grasp of the english language is..predictably poor.
+Consolous agreed, I think this kid/guy either doesn't know a thing about guitar or knows very little about the guitar work in creed. I'd assume the former.
zephiro l Or both lol. He most likely jumped on the creed hate bandwagon and didn't even make his own judgment.
the secret to this awesome song I think is the pumping kick drum on the intro.
I loved Marks playing but really haven't followed him (band wise) since Creed..man I've missed out ..Ill be downloading all AB and Tremonti albums forthwith..
@manonmagiccarpet
Yeah alot of modern rock guitarists these days kind of sound the same but Mark is definitely one of the ones that stand out. I think he may be the best guitarist to come out of this generation of music
Mark is the real deal.
Yea I know, hes one of my top 3 favorite guitarists. I just like that one riff clean, I learned it on acoustic. Good one to learn.
Mark Tremonti is the man
this is the most beautiful riffs!!!!
THE WORLDS GREATEST GUITARIST is sitting right there on that chair. you rock mark. can't wait to see you and Myles in Horsens in Denmark in oktober.
Great dude!!! Class guitar player. Love Alter Bridge and his solo record. Killer vocalist too!!
Man! His music and creations always have a feeling-attached to it. And to me that's the greatest form of music. Its not only the notes that are ringing, its the emotions as well.
:p

fantastic band and music
Don't let the fact that Mark played in creed fool you into thinking he is not a great guitarist man he is my favorite guitarist he can shred a guitar for sure 🎸 thanks for making great music brother
Mark wanted to go prog
Gorgeous guitar, brilliant guitarist. Perfect match.
This instrument sounds amazing. Really, really great sound.
Nice!
Watcihng this video makes me appriciate alter bridges music so much more!

id have liked to hear how mark wanted it played.. with his odd timing and stuff.
the noise gate on the speech sections is pissing me off a treat!!
+Josh Porter-Taylor Sounds weird right ?!
Thank god I am not the only one who noticed. Had to look in the comments thought I was going crazy lmao
Whos with me 2019
2020 right here lol
Same !
2021 right here
2024 now and still working the Tremonti technique...🤘
I'll never be able to do this in my life but i'll watch it any way
saw these guys in manchester on the 24th, this song sounded amazing!!
this may sound stupid.. but is there a tab for this? cause i watch the video and i dont understand where he puts his fingers
Mark, you'll always be my idol
That and the most beautiful guitar ever!!!
I'm gonna named my son Mark Tremonti !!! and hope he can plays guitar as good as Mark
How's little Tremonti doing now? :)
Imagine Tremonti was ya dad, instead of bedtime story's tell him to get out the acoustic and play you to sleep! lol if he got out the electric there would be nothing but rocking out all night :D TREMONTI U R GOD!!!!!!
My Sacrifice is my fav with open d5
mark tremonti = the king of guitar !!! :p
The slow part makes me think and wonder if, that could be another acoustic version by Mark Tremonti and Myles Kennedy>?! WOW! Chills!
I wish I was a muscial genius as Mark.
In my 40's but MT has become my favourite guitarist.
Best riff ever written. Hands down.
The finish on that guitar is godly :D
@Songwriter4God Absolutely. It's thoroughly refreshing to encounter people who share that sentiment. =]
wow totally wanna get that tuning when buying my new guitar. Thanks Mark
peavey classic 50! lol i'm sure it's something better than that, but i can get that exact sounds out of my 50 if i hook up my gate. if any aspiring guitarists out there want a great amp get a classic 50 (if you can find one). good ol' dual tube with a BUNCH of sound. great comments on the 0d5 too mark.

I'm the proud owner of a black PRS Tremonti !
Amazing riff, converted me to open 5 tuning. I actually prefer it slower.
D5 tuning is so so pretty
couldnt agree more, listen to one of his new ones, 'new way out', he uses open tuning aswell and its just amazing!
I never knew he is a Self-Taught Guitarist ..,
That's very Impressive,Mark !
I'm trying to be one .
do you have some book or something im trying to be a self taught too. I want to play in the style of slash or mark tremonti
Thanks dude! Ill do that
He started learning guitar with books & instruction videos, later after he made money with Creed,he went to Troy Stetina(famous guitar teacher) and payed him for private lessons. He also took lessons from M.A.Batio,Rusty Cooley and Myles Kennedy over the years. His old bandmate S.Stapp spend all his money, from Creed on drugs/booze,he spend it on guitar lessons!

greekfreak1980 I never liked Scott…
That intro is one of those guitar parts that as a musician you wish that you’d written yourself
He's such a good guitarist
Not only does Mark have a great singing voice, but his speaking voice is nice as well :b
Beautiful guitar.
i'd like to spend a week learning from this guy !
I don't mean to compare AB with Creed at all, but doesn't this verse seem to sound a little bit like Creed to anybody else? I absolutely love it.
bluesync1 I listened to creed a little and didn’t dig their sound at all. Tremonti wasn’t as proficient a guitarist at the time and Scott’s vocals are so not my style…
Andrew O tremonti was a shredder before creed. The producer and scott basically shaped him to play melodies.
SENSEIIIIIIIIIIIIII !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! eres la máquina maestroooooooo !! you r the machine master!
i love that sound
I love guitar in this song
That PRS....
what a perfect eletric guitar!!

In his DVD The Sound and The Story, there is a scene where he plays a recording of the original odd timed riff that eventually became this song
I remember reading this comment years ago, and tried finding it there, only to find that it's a different song that he's playing on the stereo.
Amazing guitar!
