Tatting - Hen & Chicks Corner

- Here is the corner I designed for the Hen & Chicks Edging I showed you in my previous video. Hen & Chicks is a classic edging that can be found in many vintage and out of copyright tatting publications but it's a straight edging which doesn't have a corner. There are many solutions that would work and no doubt other people have come up with their own designs but this is my idea of a corner for Hen & Chicks. I hope you like it!
The thread I used in this video is Lizbeth size 20 in colour "Antique Violet Lt".
Here is the pattern (Edging and Corner)
Hen & Chicks Edging:
R4-4 rw
leave 4mm bare thread (and between each subsequent element)
R3-3-3-3 rw
*R3+2-2-2-2-2-2-3 rw
R3+3-3-3 rw
R4+4 rw
R3+3-3-3 rw
R4-4 rw
R3+3-3-3 rw
Repeat from *
To Turn the Corner:
After a large ring,
R3+3-3-3 rw
R4+2-2, rw
(there are no bare threads after this ring and between the following 5 elements)
R2-2-2-2-2 rw
R3+2-2-2-3 dnrw
R3+2-2-2-2-2-2-3 dnrw
R3+2-2-2-3 dnrw
R2+2-4 rw
start leaving a 4mm bare thread again from here
R3+3+3-3
and continue from * above
Thank you so much for the Tatting instructions I’m 72 I’ve been Tatting since I was in my 40s but I also net crochet. I enjoy all of these I feel like Stephen Tatting says me out there. I am running a little class for knitting Tatting crocheting lots of other crafts and I’m not getting anybody coming in. They all say oh my hands hurt too much it’s a little teeny tiny town so I guess it’s just gonna take time, thank you so much for all you do. I appreciate it a lot. I’m in Indiana and I moved here from California during Covid. I’m glad to be here out of California. Thank you again.

Hello, I wasn't quick enough responding to your previous comment but I see you found the corner video! I hope you enjoy making it. :-)
Very very nice 👍🏻
Thank you! :-)
C'est merveilleux merci je vais bientôt l'essayer
Merci Samia! :-)
Please consider showing how you tat on a large project. Do you try to lay it over the top of your hand or hold the bulk of it in your palm? I hope this makes some sense.
It makes sense! It depends on which part you are working on and how big the project is. But I would usually lay a large piece over my hand and forearm. On my channel you can see several videos where I work on larger pieces. Here is a link to the very first video I ever published which shows one example: ua-cam.com/video/e5Q4_mXrq0g/v-deo.html
Very nice
Thank you!
It's lovely I am going to try it
Great Raya, I hope you enjoy making it. :-)

Very glad you like it and will be making it Cecilia! The thread I used in this video is Lizbeth in size 20 (colour is Antique Violet Lt).
Thank you!
You're welcome!
grazie mille
Prego! :-)
I know you said there are many ways and I get that and so far I do get the impression that tatting is a lot about manœuvering through different situations and even improvising(?)
So I hope I don't tire you with this:
I thought you could hypothetically just work the initial pattern for the corner except you just leave bigger thread gauges between all the elements "covering" the edge, to give it some height and stand out. Do you think it would work(regardless of the aesthetic part which is subjective)?
Appreciate ur care always
Bye:)
Hi Christina, do you mean longer bare threads between the elements? It might work, you'd have to test it to see how it looks!
@@11Frivole Yes that what I mean, okey that's what I expected too. Thank you for your time!
Where do you live mam?
I love ur work ....I'll try this one
Thank you for your comment, I'm based in the UK - what about you? I hope you enjoy making the Hen & Chicks edging. :-)
Hi mam plz teach us the complete square - it’s verrrry pretty tks
Hi Georgina, if you follow the instructions for the Hen & Chicks border and also use the corner video you can make your own complete square, the size you want. :-)
Hi can u teach us the complete square tks
Hello Georgina, there is another video that shows how to do the straight side. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/wDRwwmOImBE/v-deo.html
What size shuttle are you using?
There's no size for shuttles as such. It's a standard bobbin shuttle.
@@11Frivole
Thank you. I bought 2 different shuttles and since we moved havent got everything gone threw. I do have a couple of tatting needles; have you worked with them? I saw your cardboard shuutle and thought i might try that before buying anything else.
Thank you so much for your videos and answers!!!
Very nice
Thank you!
