I noticed that with the kit I got too (for the Neumi BS5) - the combined cost of the parts in the kit, bought separately from Parts Express, is pretty comparable to what he's selling his kits for. Definitely doesn't seem to be ripping people off on parts cost. Good for him! 👍 Even now that I have the schematic I may get a second kit from him to upgrade the rear speakers in my home theater system!

Danny’s tweaks are great! and lots of fun to do! Glad you are happy with your results. I think there is a bit more clarity to be found in your speakers with adding the new solid copper wire to the tweeter and the tube connectors. Like you say all the small things add up to make a big difference 👍🏻🔈

This is good. I like that you explained it in real world language. It makes it easier to understand and more relatable to normal people. I replaced the caps in my old Klipsch Heresy series 1 speakers with Sonicaps from Crites and it did make a noticeable improvement. Now I want to see if GR has upgrades for my other speakers. Good video, thanks

I did the upgrade on my 602 S2's and it is certainly worth it. I did do somethings beyond the GR Research kit though. I took the plastic faceplate off and filled the voids with bondo to deaden the hollow nature of it. I left room for some sound barrier 40 mil before remounting. I'm a huge believer in working to remove cabinet resonance with will muck up the sound and make the crossover upgrades pointless.

Thanks for the video. Don't assume that tweeter wires don't make a difference. My amp isn't super hifi either (Crown D150), and it definitely made a difference in my Polk 7Bs 🙂

Yes it did make a difference as I replaced them later. Still haven't installed the tube connectors. For some reason the speakers that Danny worked on had steel terminal strips and binding posts coated with a brass look. Mine were brass, non magnetic. Possibly mine are an older earlier version where they didn't skimp on the materials?

@@electricroo I also own B&W model 686s2 and Miflex bypass cap on the tweeter really made a big difference, try to use 0.1uf KPCU Miflex and it will clean a lot of noise and open up the detail, separation, better tone, stage depth and width ...
      Have fun

Kudos, firstly, for doing your own crossover revamp yourself, mostly like-for-like, it would seem. Can['t blame you for using the the original PCB for doing so, but it would seem you did a lot of wiring yourself where the PCB's circuitry would not come into play anyway. Am wondering if the large copper fields on the back, obviously being that way to reduce resistance, would not add unwanted capacitance to the board, an MDF board and direct wiring would avoid. Apart from that, the PCB does not allow for enough space to align the inductor coils the way Danny recommends, they are actually now in exactly the way vs. each other Danny is recommending against, which might have been achieved laying the larger coil flat on a a more spacious MDF board, and leaving the upright capacitor right in harm's way, i.e. the direction of that smaller coil's magnetic field is facing. Fully OK if you're are happy with what you have achieved there, hoping for a reply on my comment here.

Yes, it was a choice that I made but I am happy with it as you have to understand that I only need to please these old ears! The most important thing I was after was to eliminate the brightness and improve the clarity of the upper frequencies of my aging hearing which I obtained with the upgrade. It's a pleasure to hear clearly things that weren't there before in these old ears. I probably damaged them when I was young!

@@electricroo If you are happy with what you have achieved there, so should anyone be.
I am planning on revamping my 30-y-o Mission 775 floor standing boxes the same way, like for like, just better components and my own more spaced out lay-out, and Danny's connectors, as a first trial, having the four woofers' surrounds reworked externally. And to then see, where that is getting me (into Hell's kitchen, likely 😈). Being 51 by now, what am I gonna hear? Much less than when I bought my first Cyrus Amp aged 18, that much is for sure. Mors certa, hora incerta.

Sad that you have to upgrade such expensive speakers

    • @electricroo

Yes, it's all in the manufacturer maintaining a price point. If you watch any of Danny's videos you will see cheaper crossover components unless you're getting into really expensive speakers.
