How to Fix a Broken Scripto Grill Lighter that is Not Working

- I fixed my broken Scripto grill lighter that's was not working by taking it apart, looking at it, and putting it back together.
1st, I tried lighting it with another lighter to check if the problem was the spark, or the gas supply. Mine wouldn't light with another lighter, so I knew that the problem was the gas supply.
2nd, I tried to carefully take it apart. There are two things to remove to open the lighter: a small Philips head screw on the bottom of it; and, a collar that lifts over the lighting end. It might have helped to video record it while taking it apart to see the original layout of everything inside. Good luck with that.
Once it was apart, I tried it again and it lit. The child safety wasn't pressing on the gas line when it lit.
3rd, I tried to reset the part that might've been restricting gas supply, which was the roller/button part of the child safety feature. A small spring went flying off and got lost. That was the spring that returns the child-safety roller/button to it's original position after each time the trigger is pulled. Anyway, it works without it. I keep it up high anyway, where a kid can't reach it.
worked like a charm, my butane part that releases the butane was not hooked up correctly. I love rocket science.
I heard something shaking around so I ripped it apart , appreciate your video, its the only one I could find, I love the “good luck” at the end 😂 I have some understanding of this witchcraft assembly now haha
There is a tiny Phillips screw at the base too before you take it apart.
Very useful video!
So the little white tab that acts like a lever releasing the fluid can slide off and make it near impossible to light. The black tab controls the flame height and it does so by controlling the amount of fluid coming out via a gear near the valve. To the right is more and to the left is less. You can lift this black tab off the gear and rotate it to the left for more fluid or to the right for less. I believe you can also do this by pulling the trigger without the safety, thereby having the white tab push down on the black tab, and moving the black tab appropriately. However, the components are flimsy enough that over time things can move out of place and cause issues.
Took mine apart like you showed and the little tube for the gas just wasn't connected... Thanks for the help.
ohh man tell me about that spring lol mine is more complicated than your's as it also has a switch you need to push while pulling the trigger and that is where the spring goes but i had no idea first time i took one of these apart because i needed to harvest the piezo igniter to fix my favorite torch lighter, the piezo of the torch lighter however was still working but had a wire not long enough anymore that's why i needed the bbq one instead and i knew it was gonna be a pain opening it without some part flying off and me not knowing how to put it back together but i managed to figure out where each part goes just by trying to figure out the sequence of ignition and yup i found where the spring goes and got the thing working again after soldering on the piezo to the wire and resetting for a larger flame adjustment it was working as before with all the right internal parts in harmony gladly because it still had lot of butane left in it , so now i fixed both my lighter and the bbq wand
I'm having the same problem with mine. Hopefully I won't loose that little spring too. Seems like an important part for the child safety mechanism.
Have you fixed one that won't spark? I see a black wire rinning to tip, but not how it works/why it isn't sparking.
If you hear the click, it should spark unless the spark part became disconnected somewhere
I have two and ended up doing this for both. They both light now.
What kind of screw is it? It looks square? Do you know the bit needed to open it?
How do you refill the butain tank is what I was looking for and then I found how to increase the flame size on lighters
You could take it to a smoke shop or tobacco shop and see if they sell something to refill it, they probably do.
huh same way you refill any other butane lighter look at the bottom it has a hole where there is the refill valve, you need to get a butane canister like ronsonol or clipper etc just take it to a convenience store as they usually carry butane cans and they will do it for you or show you how just like any other lighter refill
YOU, not U.
BUTANE, not BUTAIN.
INCREASE, not IN CNEACE
FLAME, not FLAM.
Fix your English before you fix the lighter.
It is a sealed canister of fuel, very tricky to open up. If there is a leak with you trying to refill it, it could blow up or burn your hand badly. Furthermore, there is a piece of flint that wears out easily which would have to be replaced as well. By the time you fixed everything, the cheap plastic housing would crack. Not worth your efforts. I would buy a refillable grill lighter or large table lighter. I also wanted to refill it, but after opening it up, it is not worth my time.
@@mjremy2605 I probably wrote all that drunk off my ass but thanks for looking out man
the new hoby I have now is rechargeable cr car batterys
That's like the lighter I have with the butain bottle and the black pipe on top
❤
So how did you get the collar off?
Push it toward the top of the lighter, where the flame comes out.
How do you refill this type of lighter
I don't know.
Take it to a tobacco store and ask if they have a refill.
huh same way you refill any other butane lighter look at the bottom it has a hole where there is the refill valve, you need to get a butane canister like ronsonol or clipper etc just take it to a convenience store as they usually carry butane cans and they will do it for you or show you how just like any other lighter refill
how could you not know??@@mnmurph
