- You've probably heard a million times that you should visit a hair salon or barber shop for a trim every six months, or else you'll have split ends in your hair. But what do split ends look like? In this video, I show you several types of split ends, so you can see what split ends look like and there's a variety.
I haven't had a trim in months and also I bleach and color and bleach my hair often. Thus, it's super important to get regular trims, as split ends can continue to split all the way up your hair shaft. (I will be having most of my hair cut off soon, to get rid of all this damaged hair).

I have it and I have been peeling my split ends since I was around 7 ( I am now 30). Wish I could stop, but sometimes I don't even realize I am doing it.

mlbadvx3 if you want to stop, i’ve been battling it for a year it helps to put plasters on your thumb and index finger or cut your hair and convince yourself that you have no split ends
@@JV-em4is Habit Tracker is a bracelet. Once you touch your hair, the bracelet will buzzer to give you an awareness to not to touch or pull your hair. I haven't use it yet.. you can find it on youtube or google Habitaware Keen.

Olivia it’s so satisfying but don’t do it obsessively bc I had curly thick waist length hair but about two years of doing that completely killed it and I cut it short and I like it now but it’s sad I ruined it so just a word of advice don’t do it all day

i’ve struggled with trimming my split-ends obsessively for at least two years now. most times, i would be hunched over trimming for 3-7 hours (i, too, wonder how i still have hair left).

The search and destroy method is very effective for reducing manage whilst retaining length as when you just cut all of the ends you end up cutting healthy he=air that didn't need it and still missing most of the split ends that are further up the hair shaft and will continue to split upwards that causes tangles and therefore more damage.
With that amount of split ends, I would say just trim your hair.

call me weird but i have been peelinng my split ends since i was 9 years old and now i'm 25 so you can tell it has been a long time. It is extremely entertaining and satisfying but i have ruined my vision a little. I recommend using solid black or white backgrounds for best results and slightly less strain on the eyes but my best recommendation is to never start doing it bc once you start, it'll be impossible to stop

You have very thick strands. Mine are so thin I don't know if they are split of not.
Same, I was looking through my hair and I was like....either there are no split ends...or they are all split ends. lol That's what brought me to this video. Then I just paid really close attention to my own hair and decided the best way for me to tell is to find the more translucent ends.

I used to have this problem cause of a friend who kept peeling it for me I ended up doing it as well. I have no idea how I got pass doing it but it was probably cause i found out it damages the hair. But what I do when I get tempted to peel it off, I cut the split end in a longer strand so that I can just peel it without it damaging my overall hair any further :>

@@incognitosass8692 yes you can you just stop. People have far too much time to develop these habits. Just stop. Like you just stop smoking or over eating or any other vice. Everyone has a vice of some sort. We all have 2 choices. Keep doing it or stop.

How come i have never seen this irl.. i tried to find it in my hair but there are none..
Then you are lucky. Or take a section of hair and pinch lightly between your fingers, gently pull upwards whilst still holding the ends with the other hand and if you have any split ends they will show themselves as they will flick upwards.

I do this exact same thing and I started to tell myself, “if it looks or feels off, cut it. it most likely is”

this is not as bad if you don't get one of those knot tight balls in your hair 😳 the only reason my hair is short after cutting is to get rid of the dyed sections eventually.

It’s best to cut them before they split further up the shaft.
Use conditioning treatments.
Rinse hair in cold/cool water to close the hair shafts. Towel dry and let air dry.
In the winter, wear a hat to cover up your hair.
Doing all the above will help you avoid split ends.
It’s really weird but I only see this in my beard and not in my hair. I start growing my hair and beard out and it only seems to happen in my beard.
Bcz u wash ur face more than u wash ur head, try to dry ur face gently by dabbing without rubbing the towel harsh, and use some olive oil, just a little bit so it won't look greasy put some drops on ur palms and rub ur face with it

i love peeling my split ends, but instead of peeling them straight down the middle and continuing the breakage upwards, i peel one part of the end completely in the opposite direction and fast so it breaks off quickly. by doing this i never feel like i need to get a trim so my hair can keep growing and i'm not thinning my own hair and i have a nice feathered look at the bottom of my hair.

I just trimmed my hair and some of my split ends are gone, but since I have baby hair those have split ends. So I would have to get a layered trim?

My only thing is different split end happen for different reasons and too often then not simply cutting off the tip of the split end won't do much you often gotta cut higher where oxygen could be cut off from the hair shaft etc

Definitely give it a trim. Split ends can travel up.
okay hi i don’t understand why split ends are bad, I can’t tell the difference between normal hair and split ends. Can someone explain???? Are Split ends that noticeable or smth?
Split ends can cause hair breakage and make your hair look fuzzy. If you look at the ends of your hair, if one strand has one strand at the bottom, that’s normal. If your single strand has two or more strands on the end, that is split ends

Yes, unless cut, the split ends will travel further up the shaft. Thus, leading to more hair breakage than necessary.
