Mafate Speed 4 or Speedgoat 5? Tough choice when they're both this good but we've got some tips.

- Both have loads of cushion and bounce, both have epic traction, both eat pure adventure for breakfast. But there are some differences that might swing you one way or the other, based on fit and ride preferences.

Excellent comparison. Few else mentioned the different wide/fit of the midshoe, but now I see why I often read to take one size up with the Mafate. Seems to be the more narrow fit there. Thanks from Europe!

As a bodybuilder interested in trail running, my ankles aren’t the most stable, I rolled both on my first trail in the Appalachian mountains trying to hit a technical trail with a road shoe 3 weeks ago, I think the mafate will be the shoe to choose for heavier guys like me, maybe even just people new to the sport who want a little extra from the outsole.
What is your weight?

For a more aggressive mountain shoe the Mafate probably should have total coverage on the outsole I collected a fair bit of damage on the exposed rubber on the Evo mafate similar to the Tecton X

Excellent explanation, thank you. I'm using Mach 5 for now and was wondering what should the be replacement for the Salomon SC 5 for trails. Most probably it'll be the Hoka SG5.
If you can still find a pair, get Speedgoat 4. I've owned both and the 4 is definitely better.
I would also like to know: which one is the best if you want to avoid ankle sprains on technical downhill terrain as much as possible ?
Try to use kinesiotherapy patch around your feet. There should be a video how to apply it. It helped me a lot

I am recovering from a hip surgery and I need more cushion for plain gravel roads. What do you suggest between mafate and speedgoat?
which is more stable? for a flat footed overpronator like me. My first Hoka speedgoat was the sg3, but after a couple of trail runs on it, I stopped wearing it, because it gave me ankle sprains after ankle sprains.
Probably the mafate. It’s a more technical shoe (usually means its more stable on even terrain)
The speedgoat feels a ton more stable, I love the mafate other than I have to be pretty careful about rolling ankles. The mafate provides more underfoot protection for technical stuff, but it feels less stable and higher off the ground

If you're prone to ankle sprains, try a shoe with little to no drop like Altra
@@_craig. Your greatest asset for control is balance, so if you feel more balance in something plush with a broad base the Speedgoat may be your choice, but if you like more flex from your shoe then it's the Mafate Speed.
I picked the Mafate because it has more room in the toebox. I don't like my toes being squished because it creates instability and unhealthy feet. Simple.
And where does the torrent 2 sit in comparison?. I'm guessing shorter distances and very technical terrain?

Identical stack heights - more cushioned feel from Speedgoat but just as plush ride from Mafate only more rebound
Can i use them on road too? usually the route i take has concrete road at the start and then loose small gravel and then off road trail.
Fine to use on incidental road.
