I hate when people say bass singers are not talented. Bass is such an important aspect of sound. Just b/c its not high doesnt mean lower notes are easy or everyone can do it.

Yep. What's EDM without the bass drop? Would the song Tear You Apart by She Wants Revenge slap as hard without the driving bass? It has a crucial role in music, whether it be via an instrument or vocals. A proper church choir has people who can hit the high notes and people who can hit the low; not everyone can do both, not everyone can sing well at all. I sound like Rachel Berry in my imagination, and a tortured cat in reality 😅😂

I’ve been in Orlando for 24 years. I know Chris Kirkpatrick he’s always been humble, friendly, respectful and a fun guy. He never spoke of the band. He always hung out around Orlando just like a regular person. I met JC & Joey a few times…JC was very shy and quiet and Joey was more outspoken but friendly. None of them ever acted like they were better then anyone else. They just blended.

I’m from Nashville & I think Chris lives there now (at least part time). I had a flight to Orlando for a work event a few years ago & he was on my flight! I saw him standing in line & think I did a double take lol. I didn’t say anything but I’m pretty sure he noticed me recognizing him & trying not to freak out 😂 He did seem like a super nice, super normal guy, with his wife & son. It was southwest, so no first class or anything. He was friendly with the people in the rows around him. I’m still kicking myself for not saying hi, but I was paralyzed because I was such a big *NSYNC fan when I was in high school lol

Soooo here’s what I interpret the origin as: Lou scouted Chris and said “put together a band I’ll finance it” - Chris contacts talent agents looking for guys, one gets back to him with Justin’s demo - Chris gets Justin. Justin gets JC. They get Joey. Justin and his mom get Lance through Justin’s voice coach.

Its really interesting how all the child recruiting in the 90s connected so easily. I auditioned for a modeling company as a child in the 90s. It took place in a hotel, but the recruiting was throughout all the malls back then. Several months after that audition I'd get invited to compete in pagents.
Said state winners would go on to compete in- you guessed it- Orlando.
It's truly ALL connected.
My daughter was recruited. She was very mad that I wouldn’t move to Hollywood. No way.

The only origin story that is a blatant lie, is Johnny Wrights version. None of the other versions negate each other. They all completely line up if you are paying attention. Chis Kirkpatrick was recruited by Lou, he invited Joey Fatone who he knew because they both were working and performing in Orlando at the same time. Chris also called the 19 talent agencies and found Justin Timberlake, just like he said, and Justin invited JC who he knew from the Mickey mouse club, and Lance who had the same vocal coach as him. That is the true origin story. There is no mystery.
Right. I feel like this is why Chris is so adamant he started the group. If it was truly built around Justin, Justin wouldn't be the one sending out his audition tape. Justin's tape was sent to Chris because he had the connection with Lou.

About their name....the N was originally for the previous member, Jason Galasso. Jason was in another group named Unreal who was based on R&B/hip hop. He turned down the contract after seeing that Lou was written in as the 6th member of NSYNC. Didn't sit well with him along with the change in music genre.
Sooooo, they replaced him with Lance. Lance's real name is James. Middle name is Lance. In order to fit that "last letter of the first name" story, they asked him to go by Lanceton.
Eventually the "ton" was dropped. But whenever they tell that story, they bring up Lanceton. .

This is what I was gonna say. How do you leave out Jason in this whole equation if you're telling the origin story??? BJ didn't do that great of a job investigating this, because this was common knowledge and they always joked about Lance's name not fitting the formula, so he became "Lansten." I'm not even a big N'Sync fan and I knew this story.

*NSYNC started themselves. Most of the members knew each other before they met Pearlman. Chris knew Joey and Justin. Justin knew Chris and JC. They all lived in Orlando and were performing. They went to Justin vocal coach and got Lance cuz they needed a bass. He was the only one who didn’t know the other guys. The parents are really the ones who worked shit out. Justin was 14 Lance was 16 Joey and JC were in their eaaarly twenties college age. Chris was the only adult adult and his momma wasnt playing. They put themselves together and came up with the name.

The thing is NSYNC had a member that decided to quit so they had to look for a fifth member. At that point, Chris, Joey, JC, and Justin were already in the band. Justin suggested Lance. That's how Lance got the gig.
In the early interviews, they all were saying that Chris was the one who started the band. So, there you have it.

Joey told Chris, hey have Lou come see my Beetlejuice show. And Lou, Justin, JC went, Chris probably had a Dr.Appt and couldn't make it, but that doesn't mean Chris wasn't involved.

Joey and Chris were definitely friends before that they were extras in Orlando. I remember them from a commercial at Disney that I was working on and we also from our agency did extra work on the Mickey Mouse club for Emerald Cove. And the kids from the Mickey Mouse club would hang out with the extras so that’s probably how they all met guarantee they all knew each other already.

I really enjoyed this video. What it again spells out to me is how we need to protect children beyond anything else. Look at the damaged adults. Parents who push their children into the industry to earn themselves money and a lifestyle, karma will come around to these parents.
Your Justin theory first perfectly with my theory that JC’s solo career was sabotaged in order for Justin to be the only breakout solo success of NSync
Any of the latest appearances NSYNC has made with one another in the last 10+ years, it’s obvious to anyone that Justin will either try to gaslight peoples’ memories about NSYNC or use the group to revive hype about himself. Unlike in their younger years where the other 4 genuinely want the best for everyone as a whole, you can tell JC, Joey and Lance don’t buy into his bullshit anymore. The only NSYNC member who practically worships Justin is Chris🤮. For whatever reason, I believe the other four come together because they are contractually obligated to do so, even if it’s all about Justin! And since Justin is still under Johnny Wright and Jive got bought out by Sony Music…therefore *NSYNC’s contract too…that makes sense why they have to fulfill their business obligations to do so. The difficult one to control is JC (he is the ONLY NSYNC member not under Sony/ label contract), while Justin is obviously the most controlled and handled.
Justin doesn’t hide his fakeness with Joey and Lance anymore and it’s clear as day JC only has a “working” relationship with Justin cause unlike the other Three guys, JC is the only one tied to the music industry, although independently.
Fans and the other three NSYNC members (along with every other boyband member from other groups) have tried to convince JC to release music and come out of hiding, but he won’t do it! And if you see JC speak out in public/ see rare appearances, there is genuine sadness/ melancholy mixed with anxiety hidden behind his diplomatic tone of voice, a far cry from his younger energetic days when he first started out before NSYNC made it big.
I genuinely believe if JC doesn’t keep with whatever agreement he made with Justin and his Handlers, his life and his family (his biological family not adopted one) would be in jeopardy. Just like Chris viewing Justin and his Handlers as “Gods that helped pave opportunities and financial security for his family’s future, if you ever do a deep dive and listen to the rare JC podcasts he talked a lot about initially being interested in a solo career immediately after MMC ended, going to college too but that changed when he felt coerced/ obligated to join *NSYNC due to Justin’s mom “helping” him and also harassing his family with nonstop calls to join *NSYNC!
Notice how Justin STILL views JC as the “valuable” *NSYNC member but primarily craps on all the rest? Not because of their “genuine” friendship. JC till this day is still viewed as valuable Narcissistic Supply by not only Justin, but by his mother and Handlers today!

Joey is definitely a New Yorker and sees through the BS. The “keep the public guessing game” they pulled with those appearances for their single was only promotion for JT’s Trolls movie. When that was all coming out, Joey posted on Ig but his “true friends” from childhood. I found it telling he did that in the middle of the NSYNC re-emergence. He also stated in cons before that that JT was planning a solo comeback, so there would be no comeback. Typical 2000’s PR with all pop stars: “we don’t have plans but you never know what could happen in the future” aka there is nothing planned.

@@BeautifulDreamerK Lance actively does everything to keep the NSYNC “brand” alive because that’s his real claim to fame, that and making his identity his other main contribution. But can you really blame him in order to try and make a living this way? He knows he got VERY lucky to be at the right place at the right time (cause it was supposed to be Jason, not Lance). If he had ended up in some other boyband, Lance definitely would have more than likely pursued a career in business, not entertainment business.
Lance has always been open about his intentions in this regard (same with Joey doing whatever he can to support his own family so as long as the doors keep opening for him as well).
It’s Justin Timberlake and his momager handler + Sony Music that’s the real problem here!

You’re wrong about JC being cast on the same season as Justin Timberlake at 28:34. JC was on the show in 1991. If Justin was cast during the same time, that would have made him 10 years old. Johnny Wright is just as bad as Lou and Diddy. I wouldn't believe anything that comes out of his mouth.
Chris started the group when he found out BSB was formed without him with Lou (he was in choir with one of the bsb members). Then Lou said he would sign him if he formed a group. Johnny was already managing BSB, and was asked to manage them too since they were already under Lou’s management.
I feel bad for NSYNC because after watching the BSB documentary that came out in 2013 the guys in BSB admitted that Pearlman used NSYNC as a way to keep them in check saying that if they slowed down he could always use NSYNC to fill in the gaps they didn't want to fill. I'm not saying they were in on it, I'm just saying that the 5 guys were probably off doing their own thing and probably didn't know their whole existance and career was being used as leverage to keep their biggest "rivals" constantly on their toes and never slowing down just to keep Pearlmans pockets full of money.

I really think it was a combination. Chris probably did his part, Justin was over there doing his part, and then they eventually came together. And that's how they all have different stories because they each saw different pieces of the puzzle. IMO.
There are so many versions of the origin story because there was such a stigma about bands being "manufactured" much like the "industry plant" conversation we have now. I think they were scouted, but it became "do you know any other singers?"

All of these group stories have people using certain words specifically like handler, being tapped, and Disney/Mickey Mouse. These kids all become the faces of music and entertainment. It all boils down to mind control. Some of these kids evolved into agents of chaos while others were assets with handlers throughout their careers. Who controls the media in the United States?

That Disney NSYNC concert was how I learned and first heard of NSYNC. First thought was of they are ok. But it kept playing and playing and eventually I got in the bandwagon and became a fan as a teen. Now I'm over JT. I do believe it was JC that had the vocal talent and was screwed over for his solo career. It's sad to hear of the abuse they had to go through. It seems common in that industry.

Am I the only one that feels that most of what Chris says is adding up🤔? Most of what she deems as contradictory in his description on how they came together or the idea of justin being the first member debunks his story about how it all started🤷🏾♀️😂 I see the pattern clear as day. Chris was the first member, he contacted agents, whom got him Justin’s information. Which was then sent to Lou, and Lou contacted justin, justin recruited JC, they ran into Joey, and then justin helped recruit Lance. Sounds pretty cut and dry to me. In fact that was the story that I grew up hearing and believing🤷🏾♀️

The inception of the group is definitely confusing, but I remember waaay back in the day Chris said he was the founder of the group. They used to make these like trading cards, and each member had a card that listed a bunch of stuff about them--I remember Justin's favorite color was baby blue (and the fan in the video remembered too!). I remember I specifically liked Chris the most because on his card it said he founded the group. I wish I still had the cards! Of course that doesn't mean definitively that it's true that Chris did found it, but just that it's something that's been said for a very long time. Thanks for the coverage, BJ!

about Disney concert. The BSB was offered a show from Disney and a Super Bowl show to sing a national anthem. At the same time. It was a tough choice for the boys to make, but they thought that to sing a national anthem was a bigger honour, so they chose that. Years later they regretted that decision.
I don't want to start a fan war but in the BSB documentary a few years back the guys mentioned that Pearlman started scouting and eventually formed NSYNC as a way to keep BSB "in check" because they were starting to slow down after working non stop for years at that point and Pearlman held it over their heads as if saying "Well if you don't do it, there's always these new, younger kids that can fill the spot you leave".
Brian Litrell even said that's when he started to feel Pearlman went from being a fatherly figure to a controlling figure because whenever they didn't want to do something Pearlman said NSYNC could always step in. Shows, interviews, record deals, TV appearences, etc. So maybe it wasn't that NSYNC were considered from the start, maybe Pearlman just sent them there because BSB didn't want to do both

I met a girl from Memphis in college that said when she was a kid she had an audition for MMC. She pulled out of the audition at the last minute because she would have to miss a gymnastics meet. Idr) and that's when Lou told him to start a new band. This is what Howie and Lance talked about on Lance's Frosted Tips podcast 🤷🏻♀️
