  • Kawasaki Ninja 1000sx 2020 - First look review from Knox
Definitely one of the most important new models for 2020, the new Kawasaki Z1000 sx which has been renamed into the Kawasaki Ninja 1000sx in order to tie in with Kawasaki in Europe and further abroad. The Ninja 1000 sx is one of the year on year best-selling bikes in the UK market, and our Founder Geoff also is a proud owner.
And there is a lot to like with the Kawasaki Ninja 1000 sx, a fantastic and eager engine pumping out 140ps with loads of usable torque, fantastic handling and seating position and it’s a Kawasaki… it works!!
The Kawasaki Ninja 1000sx strapline is “best of both worlds” and that hits the nail right on the head, the 2020 Kawasaki Z1000sx does literally everything well, fast riding, touring, commuting! It’s a real cracker.
And for 2020 the Ninja 1000 sx has made some serious upgrades, full suite of electronics and 4 rider modes, quick-shifter up and down, cruise control and much improved TFT display plus a much comfier seat.
We are pretty sure Kawasaki’s ninja 1000sx will continue to feature in the best selling charts for some time to come!!!
Hope you enjoyed this video, please like, comment and subscribe to the channel.
    Thanks,
    Aaron, Mark and Geoff

I had a 2016: I had to insist about the double exhaust made it look great so, yes, I think this new model should have that as well. Other than that... what about height-adjustable bars? For me, a riding position a little bit more sporty, like that on the H2, would make this the ultimate Sport Touring motorcycle.

I sat on one of these at the NEC, I had previously dismissed the bike as too sporty and never bothered to try one. I was amazed how comfortable it was albeit only briefly sitting on it. The riding position seemed spot on, very upright with a good seat and legs not overly cramped. The bike looks like a great proposition, compare a similarly specced 1250rs and the Kawasaki is an absolute bargain.

2011 engine and frame mostly. Evolutionary changes since then of course. But I'm sure Kawasaki has paid off tooling for the model a while ago so the cost can stay down.

I may be bias because I own a Ninja 400 but I REALLY love the styling of the Ninja's the best out of all the other brands. I know it's subjective but I think they are just super aggressive and sporty. Definitely upgrading to this in the near future.

Two Points from me an an owner:
    1) Guys made a mistake in the video. Kawasaki made a huge electronics upgrade in 2017 for Z1000SX. 3 level traction control was added back then, IMU and cornering ABS. LED headlights were added back then aswell. Actually the exterior styling of 2017-2018 Z1000SX is pretty much the same as this 2019 one.
    2) My experience with this bike for some people might be interesting. Owned 2013 Z1000SX for 5 years and traded it in last year for new 2018 Z1000SX. On my 2013 Z1000SX did 65 000km, a lot of touring, occasional track days and absolutly agree with the opinion that this bike is excellent in a most a common rider aspects needed. Great maneuvering, great touring for single rider, good dynamics and excellent Motor. Overall a great bike and that the reason why last year after searching the market I ended up simply buying a new Z1000SX. For those thinking about swapping their older (2011-2014) Z1000SX to keep in mind - tank range with the newer 2014+ bikes is slightly lower due to retuning of engine for euro exhaust norms. Still doing 210km on a tank at 140km/hr though.

I have a previuous model 2018. Not so much has changed for me to consider buying the new one. Although I'm having the bike since 2 years, I still think this is one of the most beautiful bikes. Great, powerful engine, a unmeasurable fun factor.

As an older rider (69) I still like riding sports tourers and in fact my son bought one of these two years ago and it was a great bike for him. For me this bike is too much sports and a lot less tourer and lacks the more traditional bench style pillion seat of yesteryear which are far more practical than these designer stylized pillion seats which look great from a designers point of view but in the real world for a tourer don't work particularly well. Also as a tourer this bike should have a main stand. Having owned many large capacity motorcycles of yesteryear these points are more important to me from a practical point of view than a plethora of electronic gadgets. I still ride a 2016 1250 Bandit but always looking for my next mount but as the basic practicalities/functions are being lost with modern motorcycles my style of machine are harder to find. It probably follows the same logic that most car manufacturers decided to junk the spare wheels crazy!!!!!.

I LOVE this bike I just wish they made an option for lower bars as discussed in this video. Not talking about crazy low like on a Super Sport but maybe an inch lower, just enough to make it sporty. An now that they added cruise control, I am really considering this bike. If only they added heated grips too.

The only weakness was the imprecise front. I guess the tire was to blame. The engine is just awesome. You will not become the master of mountain passes, it's not the most nimble bike, but the cosy feeling of living on a reliable and solid vehicle came quickly to me. I really enjoyed my one-week trip in the alps.

Released in 2011. That was the most powerful and lightest version. 2014 saw changed intake cam, lost some power overall. 2017 saw the most significant changes, with new fairings more weight, even less power, IMU, TC, power modes, LED lights, this and that.
Now in 2020 they finally went to throttle-by-wire which brought cruise control (servo powered throttles), quickshifter up/down, full LED lights, and some subframe/seat changes, elimination of dual exhaust outlets (THANK YOU!). The weight was reduced a bit. Power remains the same, but I read they've changed the cam profiles again. Honestly wish it had another 10 hp to keep with the similar sports/touring class machines like the S1000XR, R1250RS, 1290 SDGT, 1260S Multi and such, and to offer a bit more due to increased emissions restriction. It's a 1043cc engine afterall. Just a bump in compression or more valve lift would easily gain some power. The engine is basically 9 years old with hardly any changes, just engine-control changes. Hope they increased stator output from the paltry 336 watt it was producing. That's very little for any gadgets or aux lights.

  • @BoZhaoengineering
    @BoZhaoengineering 4 роки тому

Ninja 1000 is indeed a semi sport bike. Versys 1000 share the engine with one but lower compress ratio and RPM for lower power output. But Ninja 1000 is one of the best touring machine for the performance and reliability, which are hardly beaten together.

Jap bike is generally more reliable. This Kawi is for people like me who want a dual purpose motorcycle (sport and touring). This bike got most of the latest electronics and a punchy engine for occasional ‘fun’ and in reality, the more upright riding position will save my back when stuck in traffic around town.

COST OF INSURANCE WARNING!!!! I am thinking of buying one of these but there is a fly in the ointment, the cost of insuring it is double that of insuring an MT09 SP. I’m an older guy in a quiet area and with a clean licence and umpteen years no claims and pay about £100 per year for my Honda Blackbird and around £120 per year for my Ducati Supersport S (2018). The values of the MT09, and the Ducati Supersport are comparable to the Kawasaki so why is this bike so expensive to insure. Even Kawasaki insurance which was one of the cheapest quotes came in at £216. Not disastrous for me but every one should be aware that this bike is going to cost them for insurance. It appears to be due to the name change to Ninja. The older Z1000sx is much cheaper. Come off it insurance companies. Kawasaki should offer their insurance at a decent rate at least.

  • @draiguk

Correction : My 2015 has traction control, as do all the models since that I'm aware of. Will I upgrade to this 2020 model? Yes. Why? LED lights (the lights on 2015 model are a bit wank) TFT screen, the shifter and cruise control. The seat on the '15 was the first thing upgraded, that will probably hold true for the rider seat on the '20 as well. Dislike one exhaust instead of two. Other than that all the other things it did well are the same, or slightly better. So yes, seriously considering an upgrade. I've got the red/black version which I love, so the colour schemes will be the tipping point for me. If I can live with one of them instead of my beloved red/black I'll do it.

Knox Armour ehhhh I think as we move to supersports we start to see it change to mid 30s to high 20s....
I’ve been a sport touring guy since day 1 at 24... just can’t be bothered with supersports..
I need an H2SX, Triumph Rocket 3 for the misses and I to weekend ride on, and I’m debating a ADV bike... maybe Africa Twin?!?
My days of buying 50k cars are over so in two-three years I’m about to have a lot of income back on the table

Love the bike, but don't think this was a very good review. Should have rehearsed or got a presenter who doesn't um and er all the time. And show more of the bike! That's what we actually want to see. A minute max of head and shoulders shots of presenters/interviewees is enough, then film the close-ups and long shots of the bike from all sides and angles.

Not sure they have one that directly competes with the Ninja 1000sx. Thanks, Aaron.

Tripti Ghosh by comparison KTMs are badly finished and a “ bitty” design, the new 1290 Superduke looks terrible!
The back wheel is on the wrong way round, all the coring out and part number / date stamps are visible from the appearance side of the bike, it just shows poor attention to detail and makes their bikes look cheap.
