- Well, another one got scammed, I guess? Hate to say it but my industry is riddled with a lot of people who thinks they 'know' even though they have no idea what they're talking about.
I know people who's got 20-30 years of experience in the field, yet all they do is guess and not test. Just a disclaimer, I am not the perfect mechanic, definitely not, but I would rather say "I don't know" to my customer rather than replace something that MIGHT be the fault.
Anyway anyway, enough of that. RR Velar also in for Rear Brake Pads Replacement and a very very corroded VW Golf R. Watch the video to find out what happened on this day!

Just a little tip, dont always trust a trolley jack, always put an axle stand under the car or van you are working on for your safety.
Everyone’s said that in the comment 😂 I feel guilty now but yeah, definitely. You won’t catch me again without a stand 😂😂😂

Do you use a memory saver as just disconnecting the battery like that could see the radio code lost, especially on a second hand car where the code was never passed on ?
@@bignasty3274some cars ive noticed get locked & then after a few hours of driving or a day or two its back and registered automatically 😅 not sure if this is for every car though

😂 no, it doesn't, and it can be a nightmare to get this sorted out and maybe a trip to the maun stealers. I've got a memory saver and a surge device I put o😢n the battery if I'm welding to save the electronics from frying 😊

Little tip, use a thin socket to wrap electrical tape around then use that to wind tape around the cable(s).

@@Jonathan_Doe_ sorry I’m not that clever with tech, but just take a thin socket and effectively unwound the tape from the roll onto the socket, enough for the job, then cut and you have a mini roll to use in tight spaces, it works well. If you watch the South Main Auto channel, Eric O got the tip from someone else, but you’ll see him use in any of his ‘wiring fix’ vids.

Hi….. First time I’ve found your channel and must say that I’m pretty impressed with your work standards and morals ( I’m one of the older mechanics who believes in honesty and integrity with customers,unfortunately in our industry there are too many people who are prepared to shaft their customers just for a few extra £ 🤷♂️ ).
I work on Motorcycles more these days but I do work on Friends Cars ( just a hobby more these days as busy looking after my disabled adult sons ).
You did a pretty good job on the wiring issue but get yourself some of the heat shrink tubing you can get in various sizes and get some Waco connectors ( not for permanent fix but for testing purposes) it’s always better fixing wiring the way you did and with some heat shrink tube and a portable hot air gun ( Not a lighter 😉) .
Do be careful though working under cars without a Axle stand and especially on people’s driveway ( I’ve seen a few cars when the jack has given way or sunk into the driveway because of the Driveway being done cheaply ( another profession where plenty of cowboys are taking advantage of their customers ! ).
One of my friends girlfriend’s broke both her front springs in several places because she was one of those Drivers who refuses to slow down for Speed Ramps ! Trying to explain to her that driving over these at 30 mph is not going to be good for the suspension Lol 😂.
Can’t just blame her though because the Steel used making these Springs these days is definitely not as good as it used to be Years ago and the car manufacturers are using thinner steel as well ( cuts down on vehicle weight but mainly done for cost £ building the cars 🤷♂️ ).
Look at the Panels on Cars these days,you can lean on a wing these days and the wing will Cave in or Dent !!.
There was a time when you could Sit on a Cars Roof and the Steel would be fine,you imagine if you tried that these days with a modern car ?.
Keep up the Great Work ethic and you will be rewarded with lots of satisfied customers and a clear conscience yourself in knowing you did a brilliant job at a fair price. 👍
Great diagnosis, too many Garages want to fire the Parts Cannon at a fault with the customer paying for every shot!

A main dealer of prestige brand near us has this approach, keep replacing parts until the fault is fixed or the customer runs out of money.

If you look carefully he was using axle stands. Yellow ones.
NEVER use a naked flame under bonnet ! Also use harness tape not insulation tape 😕

On the first car, you should have used a small cable tie to keep the wires away from the vibrating air duct, rather then applying loads of tape and spring pipes..lol
So many cons out there, replacing random parts until the problem goes away or the customer runs out of money

Not good working practice relying on a trolley jack for support, use axle stands. front or rear springs should be replaced in pairs so they wear equally.
I totally agree mate 😅 Bad practice that I just cba to take the jack stand out sometimes 💀

Well done, good testing. Many garage services now only have fitters, not mechanics, hence replacing items.
As to supports, just put an axle stand in, lower the jack to it, then you have two points, stay safe.
Well it's not like they welded the arm or anything...literally fitted a new one
The wiring fix was a nice find but those heatshrink solder splices aren't great, I tried them out and found the solder doesn't flow that well so at best only half the copper is actually soldered and the joints could be pulled apart pretty easily.
Might be I had a rubbish batch or something but I wouldn't want to rely on them.
I reckon it'd be a more reliable job to splice it with a crimp and cover it with heatshrink.
Heh I did catch that as I use them constantly. The trick here is to add flux to the ends and then push them in. Once you heat it up flux helps to distribute the solder properly throughout the wires.
Dont use solder on vehicle wiring, it is too brittle to survive the amount of vibration. Always use mechanical connections like crimps or connectors.

being honest - my knowledge of ''modern'' vehicles is dangerous. So basically - I do not know enough as to what would be wrong with my car, I just send it to the garage. Yes, it costs money, but...... the job is done correctly. If I were to try and fix it, it would work out MORE expensive. The little that I do know is, I know not enough, there fore pay the fee/bill and have peace of mind. Always the garage.

Area... Wrap tape around a dowel/pen
Tiny stick tooth pick then wrap wire in
tight area
... Problem solved
Great tip about going for the fuse first i was taught the same method, just recently my daughters car would start and a so called mechanic replaced the battery then the starter motor took her for £500 still would not start then did a vanishing act, checked it myself and it was a 25amp fuse 5 minutes to cure.

With your job on the SEAT we (i repair trucks ) have had issues that the manufacturer highlight with the corrogated tubing you used actually saw toothing wiring and you end up with loads of breaks ,i know you did put tape around your repair first ,but just something to be wary off , What i generally do is put a small piece of heater hose around repairs like that if there is still a chance of rubbing...Good video by the way

Checking fuses while they are in place can be decieving you can get continuity through a fuse by the equipment the fuse is protecting especially if the Equipment has it's own Ground to body.. or power to battery,
I notice the UK has a lot more mobile everything. Which on one hand makes sense because the whole country can fit in a smaller US state but at the same time…that’s exactly why mobile mechanics would be so appreciated in the USA. I wonder if it’s a distance thing or a cultural thing.

A seam ripper (sewing tool) is perfect to cut through wiring electrical tape/covering without damaging wires. Very cheap and helpful.
That joint is absolutely pants, get yourself some better splicing equipment. Jeez.
Well found but it would have been easier to tape the wires by taking the air pipe off or moving it away first
Not all mechanics are scammers, I heard from one that says "its the company who want us to scam customer in order to double the company profit. and anything you give out of pocket will go to that persons pocket unless the out of pocket is charge in your credit card or with a legit receipt (not voucher or invoice)".
I’m not a sparky but I have second hand embarrassment for you. Why use a mole of electrical tape to try to make up for doing a crap job. You don’t need to be an electrician to simply use the right tools

Heating the plastic with a lighter seems sensible as you need heat to melt plastic & secure connection. Like your honesty, keep up the good work young man 👍 did i see you torque the brake callipers 👍 not many people do that great job

I didn’t think that lower arm bolt on the golf would come out I thought you would have to cut it out and replace it for sure!

I only have a 300 watt inverter at the moment but want to run more chargers and possibly a small compressor in future off the split charge and spare battery I have fitted.

I thought that too to be honest. Thankfully came out easier than I though!
I just use an Amazon 2000W inverter. Not even sure what the brand is 😅. 2 massive marine batteries and a CTek Smart Alternator Split Charger (you can even input a solar panel with it, if you fancy 😅).
I know, just lazy sometimes but yeah, definitely wouldn’t hurt. I’ll keep you in my mind if I don’t get my stands out 😂
Thanks for the info - sounds like you have got a decent setup. I only have a Range Rover AGM battery at the moment and a basic split charge.
I have seen those c-tek split chargers and fitted Solar to them and they are decent! Everything made by c-tek is, as you probably know!
Been looking at a renogy inverter, but something cheap would probably be ok, as long as the peak wattage is high enough.

Get some silicon rubber sleve rs components will sell it and some tape and a stitch pick

Sprigs replaced in pairs, also wheel alignment required
Did well to get those eccentric bolts out without having to cut them out

That seems to be an issue with some of the vag cars. Had a golf and 2 seat leons with a load of corrosion and/or bad repairs on that particular loom that then rub through

Hi guys no axle stans bad boys
A few tips . Lol get some cloth tape as the other one comes apart with heat.leave a door open or half latched on landrover or self leveling cars top stop it trying to level with jacked up .try and tighten suspension arm bush bolts with the car on level ground as the bush will be under stress at normal height otherwise .
