This is the ONLY time I have seen Richard Wright operating the ground-breaking 4 channel surround-sound pan pot ("azymuth coordinator") that Pink Floyd pioneered.
I can't believe how they are trashing Pink Floyd and Atom Heart Mother. I guess some people cannot aprecciate sophisticated music because they don't understand anything about it. That's quite sad.
You couldn´t have explained it better. Among the very true things you have stated, I think doing something together is the most remarkable, doing something together is the best definition for friendship in terms of music.
It just wasn't meant to be a concert broadcasted, but a documentary TV feature (as a part of a cultural programme). So what you call overdubs is actually what the thing is all about. And for me (huge PF fan who understands German) it is indeed interesting to hear what a (not at all silly) music journalist of those days had to say. Aren't there already dozens of old recorded performances of 'Saucerful ...' etc. to be found on yt?
@@PeterSpaeter96 No good ones with video though and this one has them playing with a brass orchestra and choir, any recorded footage of Pink Floyd is gold. Plus there’s interviews with the band you can barely hear
I think it's more a matter of the members of Pink Floyd not allowing. There's lots of Pink Floyd stuff from TV and radio that exists, and very little of it has ever seen the light of day since the initial broadcast. The BBC radio tapes are a perfect example. Also, you're assuming WDR or whomever has a full film of the band performing Atom Heart Mother, which isn't necessarily guaranteed. A lot of times, for these sort of TV things, they'd just film a few minutes and that would be it.
@triptocirrus The comments in the footage are ironic and very paternalising. I suspect that you would be quite annoyed by them. Btw, that tone of speaking/writing about rock music was very common until the mid 80's, or so.
Pink Floyd started out in 1965 playing mainly blues music, but their early singles (from the late 60's) were all in a Psychedelic Pop/Psychedelic Rock style.
I am sorry for all non german speakers. From todays point of view, they speak a lot of nonsense, although I have to admit, that it is interesting to hear what they thought about this music than.
Please realize that not everybody speaks English. You Anglo-Americans are not the one and only in the world. This You Tube Video shows a scene from german TV in which is spoken German. It is usual, that the comments should be made in the same language as the Video. In this case that's german. If the video would be in English, it would be right to comment in English. In spite of this, I'm so gentle to talk to you in English, even my English ist not professional. The man in the TV speaks German, but I and the most other german commentators mostly don't accept what he says. He has no knowledge about music and is bad informed about Pink Floyd. If you don't understand his words, that's not a pity, you don't loose any information of worth.
I remember seeing this as a child in Berlin. It was called "A Saucerful of Schnitzel".
ich war in hamburg dabei und habe beim aufbau geholfen ,später rauchten wir mit den musikern noch einen joint. was mich sehr beeindruckt hat sie waren nicht eingebildet.
Someone once called it "organized chaos." It's so inherently beautiful because it's so true and timeless.

Nick's total beard was amazing... ahahah

PF was HUGE in Germany in 1970 and had enormous impact there.
Wow. Some empty chairs but I was there :-)
Ein sensationelles Zeitdokument !
Long Live The Pink Floyd 💎💎💎
6:36 is the late Peter (Dark Side 'Brain Damage" Manic Laughter/ "I was in the right"/ father of Naomi) Watts, who was a roadie for the Floyd.
wow cool, atom heart mother era footage. Interesting...

Great. Thanks for sharing
thanks, this seems like the most complete version of this so far.
wordofgord

This has some amazing archive footage from concerts. BRING THESE VIDEOS TO LIGHT! GIVE THEM TO THE PEOPLE!!!

In 1970, Atom Heart Mother was cutting edge. Don't forget that. I mean, we're talking about the Premiere League!

THE AZIMUTH COORDINATOR in Action!
wasn't there someone named David Gilmour in Pink Floyd? well according to this footage he barely existed...
Sorry to say, many fans were still miffed about the treatment of Syd. Gilmour was seen as an interloper. Just sayin.
ja, du hast Recht!
How have I not seen this before
radiogeek89. Your not a true fan.
good live footage. it would make a sic concert dvd haha
It's such a shame historical footage like this is ruined by overdubs. Couldn't they have been satisfied with subtitles..

Danke Deutschland.....
Algumas vezes os esforços de Waters para manter Gilmour fora dos holofotes davam certo...

O M G was für Kommentare da von den Moderatoren abgegeben werden......fast schon wieder lustig
Buen documental dice JORGE ALBERTO BARON
I think they say there near the end that The Pink Floyd is a niche interest, and that's a shame. Lol! If that's what they said.
damn you realize than english is not the only language around?
What Song is it at 9:52 ??????

Tim Karlsson. Some where in the middle of atom heart mother before guitar solo jam.

Where is David Gilmour?
So?
@triptocirrus Hey! Have to learn german!
Die best oder nichts...
Pink Floyd pop musik????!!!!!!NEIN Pink Floyd ist Rock Musik
Yes but back then they probably hadn't gotten rid of their pop stamp yet
@@jidhed correct
Had to laugh when he called Pink Floyd a pop music band.
In 1971, that was pop music
Pink Floyd is rock rock
Pink Floyd IS Psychedelic/Progresive Rock. In 1966 they started as a Pop band and in the 80's this was called Psychedelic and Progressive
Pink Floyd started out in 1965 playing mainly blues music, but their early singles (from the late 60's) were all in a Psychedelic Pop/Psychedelic Rock style.
Willy Similä. Short lived p.f. went threw ART music, theater, orchestration here.

REALLY WISH I COULD UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY WERE SAYING

Was ein dümmlicher Kommentar. Tja, 1971 waren die Medien noch nicht so weit. Obwohl,
so viel hat sich in Sachen Kunstverständnis nicht getan.
He said " blah blah Pink Floyd blah blah blah Pink Floyd..."
Have these guy never heard of SUBTITLES?! Maybe that's why the Germans lost the war. LOL
In You Tube I'd never seen German subtitles under a video in English language. So don't claim special rights for you.
What a ridiculously dumb comment! (referring to 'Kohntarkosz', not to 'Blankenborn')
come on German TV!!! Give this recording of "Atom Hertz Mutter" to the public, we beg you!!!
